Best park in Turlock… I grew up around this park and it’s been maintained and taken care of pretty good. DPG

Over the years I’ve come to this park, I always find it my park to relax and enjoy its beauty, and the huge lake it has with the birds and ducks walking all over. The parks are mostly kept up, unless it’s the weekend, and then there’s liter every where from the birthday party’s and bridal party’s. I love how they have the huge play ground that is made of wood. They still have the original playground across from it. A lot of people complain about the bird poop and how it hasn’t changed, when what is there to change? Some of the benches are marked«reservations required» and there’s plenty of parking all around the park. They have basketball courts, I’ve seen people put up there own volley ball nets. There are two bathroom units, and most bench seatings have BBQ pits or grills. The only down side of this park is, it does attract a lot of vandalism. There’s graffiti on all the park benches and the ground and bathrooms. Sometimes there’s the usual homeless taking a brake and having a cold beer. But I can’t judge them as long as they clean up after themselves. This park deserves some new benches, and new bathroom stalls. It could use some updating if people would respect this park better.

I’m not from this area, but we can here for a bridal shower. I thought the park was really nice. For the party they rented a covered picnic area. Plus there was lots of trees around, so even if not everyone fit in the picnic area, at least you could hang out under the trees and not get burned by the hot hot sun. Did i mention that it was hot. They had a really nice playground for the kids. Some of the folks were complaining about the duck poop, but I didn’t think it was that bad. It was a lot better than a lot of other parks I’ve been to. I didn’t check out the bathrooms, but I heard they weren’t that great and didn’t have toilet paper. That’s why you should always come prepared with your own TP when coming to a park you’ve never been to. You just never know.

I grew up going to this park and recently had the opportunity to take my little one there. Not much has changed over the years. Whether that’s good or not depends on what you want from this park. Donnelly Park is centered around a large storm basin(err…“lake”) and is bordered by Hawkeye, Del’s Ln, Pedras, and Donnelly Park Dr. The basin is usually full of ducks, geese, seagulls, and other birds. As people feed the birds don’t get too close to them unless you’re ready to give them food. On the southwest side is a small play area and half court for a pick-up game of basketball. There are a few picnic tables but they’re usually occupied by old Assyrian guys playing board and card games. On the northeast side is a large shaded picnic area for reserved events and a larger play area for kids(and a dedicated area for toddlers). Parking is ample and if you can’t find parking inside the park… well, there’s perimeter parking too. Bathrooms are only open during limited hours especially during this time of year so if nature calls you better know how to hold it in or go beforehand. Now for the downsides: — Limited bathroom access as mentioned above. — No path around the basin. — Seagulls flying overhead may potentially use you or your companions as target practice. — Ducks will pester you for food. — Dead grass everywhere. — Half-court hoops… really? Then again my tike only cared about the birds and the swings… so the park did its job. She left happy.
