Silver Skillet Family Diner

Been twice now. Food is alright. Service is sorely lacking. Servers have not been very competent. No, you can’t sub onion rings (and pay extra) for another side if you order a chicken fried steak, because the menu doesn’t say you can. On the second visit there was so much grease underneath my food I couldn’t eat it. The coffee was probably the weakest coffee I have ever attempted to drink. Won’t likely go back. I’ll stick to Waffle House or Tally’s.

The first time I went here I got a decent chicken fried steak. But I went back and tried to have a hamburger. I got a chunk of coal. The waitress was very nice and gave me a gift card. So about ten days later I went back and ordered the chicken fried steak again. Well, they dredged in salt before they put it in the batter. It is the saltiest thing I have eaten this year.
So I won’t go back. I recommend you go anywhere else as it cannot be as bad as this place.

This was our second time (10/​18/​2015) to have breakfast here. (The first trip, the food was good for the most part, but terrible service. So my wife and I decided a second chance was in order. My wife had the bacon avocado omelet, and loved it. It was not lacking in any ingredients. How do you get that much bacon in one omelet! I had the eggs with sausage, hash browns, and biscuits and gravy. Eggs were cooked to a perfect over easy, good sausage, crispy hash browns and tasty gravy over a hot fresh biscuit. To make it all perfect was the great service! Our waitress was very attentive, and there when we needed. very nice experience! My only complaint would be, the coffee is a bid high priced. We’ll be back soon!

Good price. Tasted good. Not much in the way of food presentation. I’ll be back.
Would have liked to see fresh not frozen vegetables. Steak was a little thin but tasted fine. We also would have like to see real butter and not whipped spread.

I had lunch there today, ordering the special chopped steak with grilled onion, mushrooms, and gravy. Along with it, I had a side salad, brown beans, and a roll. I drank ice water. Portion size was good, the char-​grill flavor on the meat was good, and the roll was excellent. The price was definitely attractive ($ 8) and service was good. I even made arrangements for a club where I’m president to use the private room in November for a meeting. I look forward to trying a breakfast here sometime soon.

We’ve visited Silver Skillet at least 6 or 7 times. The food is «All American Down Home Comfort Food». it’s very reasonably priced and portions are HUGE! Frankly, I wonder if it can last…
Generally, the food can be a bit bland, but that’s not a big deal. It’s pretty good.
I give it an «Average» rating (almost below average) for the Service. The Waitresses severely lack training. Or perhaps it’s the Kitchen? Or Management?
We generally eat with a few of our friends. The orders do not come out together. The hot stuff is often cold, the cold stuff gets warm. the Waitresses stretch to ‘reach across’ to serve. Orders get mixed… for example: Order brown gravy; out comes white. Order green beans; out comes Okra, etc. not a big deal… I suspect it’s Lack of attention by Kitchen, Servers, Management.
Yesterday, my buddy ordered omelette with biscuits and gravy. The biscuit and gravy came out 10 minutes before the omelette!
We will go back… Lotsa Food at a cheap price… the trade off is poor service. On the plus side, the waitresses seem nice and are probably trainable.

UPDATE:
The cashier was not the owners wife as I had assumed. I got a message from the owner himself and he was very apologetic and offered me and my partner to come enjoy a meal. It really shocked me to receive a response from the owner himself as I do Unilocal reviews (positive and negative) quite often and have never received feedback. We will return to this establishment to give it another shot ! Good customer service Sam !

Great food! Best breakfast in town. Highly recommend. Chicken fried steak was delicious. Everyone was friendly.

My husband and I have eaten at The Silver Skillet 4 times now. We are very impressed with the food and staff.
They have a nightly special. The price is more than reasonable and the portions are more than ample.
On our first trip my husband had 3 way chili and was only able to finish about one third of the meal which included 2 sides and a really wonderful fresh baked roll.
On our next trip we had pork chops
that are really tasty, done to perfection, done but not dried up.
Grilled chicken with grilled onions and fresh mushrooms topped with Swiss cheese was great. Mashed potatoes are the real deal.
The chicken fried steak is, of course, huge and very very good. The side salad is larger than most and always fresh. Oh, and don’t forget the onion rings. I usually don’t eat them, but they are hand dipped tasty and not greasy.
This is not a romantic getaway place, but if you want really good, more like home cooking (not mine), this is the place for you!
Put it on your list of places to try and plan to return to.

Awesome new place, in the same shopping center as Hooters and TJ Maxx.
The Reuben is awesome, I can’t wait to get back to try their chicken fried steak or the chicken fried steak sandwich.
