Motel 99 is a little hard to get to from the freeway but we found it after trial and error. Although the location is a bit isolated, it is only 10 – 15 minutes away from Visalia where one could get supplies and eat. It took about 45 minutes –1 hour to get into Sequoia National Park. Of course, I would of preferred staying inside the Park rather than drive to and from for 2 days but that’s reality when you wait last minute like I did. The property itself is your typical Motel 6 back in the day. 1 – 2 story building with a pool. Nothing fancy or modern but not dilapidated either. The rooms surprised me since I had low expectations. We had 1 king bed room and 2 queen bed room for a family of 6. The king room had a small couch(no sleeper), table, flat screen TV, mini-fridge and the bathroom was clean. Same with the queen room but no couch. The rooms were in the back in the 1 story section and was quiet. Freeway noise was not an issue and we preferred being away from other patrons. There are breakfast items in the morning before 9 am but if you can accept a choice of 2 cereals, assorted pastries, orange juice, milk and coffee — then you are good to go. Anything more than that, it is best to go into Visalia for a decent breakfast. Tip: the lobby has various items to buy for snacks — frozen hamburgers, small pizza, ice-cream, chips, cup-o-noodles, etc. The downsides are the towels and the ice machine. If you request more bath towels, be prepared to be accountable for your towels IF you get them more than once. Not sure what is up with that as the towels are white and thin and not anything special. The ice machine costs 25 cents and is not free. There is a laundry room for small change but we did not use it. That is a normal expectation but not the towels or the ice machine! Most hotels/motels will give you extra towels upon request as many times as you need and ice machines are usually free. In summary, for $ 42 per night — I really went with the flow with this property. I cannot complain too much as I negotiated the towel situation with the front desk. Be aware if you book through , the fees tacked on did not make this the deal it should have been. Also, the queen room was $ 68 per night and is quite a difference. I would recommend this place only if you need a place to rest and your budget is tight.
