This restaurant was wonderful! I’m so glad that we happened upon it while in the area. If we come back up this way, we will definitely come back!

Definitely a jem, real Japanese cuisine in Tujunga… who’d a thunk? Like finding bourbon at an aa meeting — simply superb! Give it a try won’t be disappointed but be warned bring your own spoon. Nom!

This is my local go-to sushi bar and they always deliver consistent sushi! But there is an OG sushi chef… you HAVE to try him out! Go in, sit at his station, and let him make you whatever! Everything… and I do mean l EVERYTHING… he makes is AMAZING!!! He is here on Thursdays and Saturdays, I do believe! As for the rest of the sushi chefs, they are good as well! They just added the spicy tuna crispy rice onto their menu! Try it! It is super yummy! Come and try! Bön Appétit!

Food tastes fresh. Serving is on the small side. We came at the right time but the service is kinda bad. We had to remind the server a few times about our order. The prices of the sushi are little pricey compared to other places. I will definitely be back though.

A new favorite is the BOAT! It is an excellent deal and a TON of delicious food. Was recently in a funk and a dear friend surprised me with the Boat for dinner. Of course there was enough food to feed several people, so the two of us ate heartily — he, the land lover, with his beef teriyaki and chicken skewers and meat and me with my sashimi and sushi rolls. We both loved the tempura and various salads. Lots of leftovers for the next day, too. Oh, Tori Yen, you almost make me believe the ocean really does reach the Foothills. Almost. And I love you.

This is my 3rd time at Tori Yen and I am extremely happy to have found this gem. Their sushi is very fresh! They specified that they buy limited amounts of fresh fish everyday, which is why their selection is extremely fresh and delicious. Couldn’t be happier to have found this spot in Tujunga because I love sushi and they are very good at what they do. I’m a local and I highly recommend this for anyone in the area. I am looking forward to coming here often and trying out more of their dishes. They also have homemade ice cream. Their real wasabi ice cream is out of this world. They are the real deal folks! ENJOY!!!

This Japanese restaurant is more like… food court chicken teriyaki place where you order cooked food with side order of cali rolls but the price not food court like. Sushi quality is far far from fresh and good. Teriyaki sauce was too sweet and beef cut was really thin and dry. Service was slow and somewhat awkward. It felt like I was at the party where i wasn’t invited. I don’t see myself going back. I can get much better food with with the price I pay here.

I like Tori Yen. It has good Japanese food at a reasonable price. I recommend getting one of their combo meals which gives you the biggest bang for your buck. Another big plus for this place is the staff. They are friendly and FUN! So if you go, you should have a delightful experience.

Went on a weekday afternoon to this Tuhhoonggah spot for some homey comfort eats, Japanese style. I ordered a lunch combo: yakitori plus tempura, which was highly recommended due to a special house-made batter recipe. Misoshiru(miso soup) was warm and filling. Grilled chicken(yakitori) was tasty, with a lovely accompaniment of a dark sauce. Side salad was tart, vinegary, pleasant, and the tempura pieces were huge and pretty good. «Rei» junmai ginjo draft by sake brewing giant Sho Chiku Bai complemented my meal. It has a great middle-of-road delicious flavour, with a smooth, pear finish. G-san had soft shell crab, panko oyster. Paul got and most notably guzzled so-called«mother’s milk», better known as the unfiltered, opaque, extremely sweet dessert sake. We all enjoyed our food and drink. Mariko runs the place; she has been in the resto biz since the 1990s. Hospitality from the small staff make Tori Yen a nice neighborhood café. It’s a comfy cazh place to get a filling meal at a great value.

Yesterday was our wedding anniversary. We were too lazy to go out to buy steak meat so my husband thought, sushi rolls would be a nice partner to the bottle of champagne that we saved for this day. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t let us bring in our own drink so we decided to have a few sips at home and went back to the restaurant. We ordered their Bora Bora Sashimi, the BTS Unagi Roll, Mariko Roll, Baked Mussels and Green Tea ice cream. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. We enjoyed the hospitality of the lady server and the very accommodating and ever-smiling Thai chef. We’ve been in this part of Greater LA for six months now but we never thought that Foothill Blvd will have an amazing Japanese Restaurant(considering the shabby environment it’s in). It’s simple and the setting is low-key but the ambiance is perfect for dining out. We will be back definitely. It can get a little pricey but it’s all worth it.

Here last night for dinner with Unilocalers Gary, Betsy, and Terri. Great people great conversation and a nice atmosphere. The staff here is very friendly and am humbled by the generosity of Gary for including me. The prices here are very reasonable for the food. They have an excellent three item combination for $ 14.95. Sorry Mr. Kimura for not sitting at the bar, but we Unilocalers had not all met and if four of us sat at the bar the two on the end would have been left out mathematically for half of the conversation. No disrespect meant and thank you for hosting us for such a nice dinner. Bathrooms are clean and the parking lot is abundant. I found the green tea exceptional and pipping hot. This is an easy location to get to and is right off Foothill Blvd in Tujunga. I found the owner Mariko witty in a charming way and though I may have been distracted with work and my phone when I arrived it did not go unnoticed and was appreciated. Thank you ToriYen, I will recommend you to my friends.

So, seriously, I have driven by Tori Yen approximately 12,456 times, and never even knew it existed. Loving hidden treasures as I do, when my dear Unilocal friend Gary I. invited me to check it out with him, I of course said yes. Gary I. is pretty much a regular here and had special ordered a California king crab for our sampling pleasure. This crab blew me away. It was succulent, sweet, and perfectly cooked. I love how they took care of preparing it for you so that it was really easy to yank out tender morsel after tender morsel of yummy goodness. Thank you, Gary, for sharing its awesomeness with me, my dear friend Teri A. and fellow Unilocaler Christopher C. What a fun night. Oh. There was also great sushi, tempura, sashimi, soup, sake, salad and good conversation. Great environment for sure. Yes, it’s in a strip mall, and there was ample parking available. Service with a smile. And a joke. And an innuendo or three. Highly recommended.

A sushi restaurant actually run by a Japanese person in the foothills?! Say whaaat?! It’s true this isn’t a Korean style Japanese restaurant. This is hard to find these days. However, I was a little disappointed with the teriyaki sauce they use. Their sushi is good, and their tempura is decent. Overall a good experience, but not overwhelming.

To put my two cents in… I adore this place! I’ve gone there three times on my own and the atmosphere is so friendly! The food is fresh and good, prices are right. I appreciate that these are actually Japanese people preparing Japanese style food. I love the weird and funny tshirts hanging on the walls. My fave place locally, for sushi. It doesn’t look like a nightclub with all that neon and black lacquered furniture. This place looks like a family place. Very similar to what you’d find in a neighborhood sushi place in Japan. Very authentic. And yeah, they’ve got the«California» style sushi too in addition to more traditional choices. Very glad I discovered it! Thanks Unilocal

I never believed in the existence of a sushi place in Tujunga! Thanks for Unilocal’S HELP! We were able to fulfill our craving for sashimi. A small place and I have to love my own since it’s in ma hooooddd!!:). Not the usual Japanese nook, decors are totally distinctive. The young chef was really cool in making all these artwork on his creations. The owner never got tired of throwing jokes. I agree, they were funny! It’s a midweek visit and there were many people coming in clusters. We were satisfied with the service and food. Desserts were awesome especially the almond and coconut home-made ice cream. Complimentary fruits and appetizers were served as well.
