Pho 88 Vietnamese Restaurant

One of the reviewers shared her rave «…there are no lines like at Miss Saigon» Well, guess what, there’s a reason for that. Start with the ambience; there isn’t any. Swinging the glass and aluminum door open reveals an office style drop ceiling with florescent tube light fixtures. I’ve had great food in places without great ambience but this isn’t one of them. The Phở broth is unremarkable. The Bun Ga portion is small, the chicken (what little there is) is all thigh meat and the vegetable portion is comprised of lettuce. Worse yet is the fish sauce. I’ve eaten at a lot of Vietnamese restaurants over the past 25 years but I never turned my nose up at the fish sauce. I know fish sauce is a key ingredient in this sauce but that doesn’t mean that it should smell like fish. I will say that the fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce were perfectly acceptable. However, other that that our search for good Vietnamese food in Tucson continues.

In my opinion Phở 88 has the best phở in town! Don’t get me wrong Miss Saigon is amazing as well but Phở 88 has a more homemade touch that I like better. The owners are also extremely friendly and remembers you upon every visit!

This is a great place. The food is delicious. I would have posted a photo of the soft spring rolls with shrimp and pork, but the plate served looked just like Melissa C’s. Great photo Melissa. The owners are friendly without hovering, if you know what I mean.
I got the #32 rice dish with beef. My wife got the shrimp rice vermicelli. Both were excellent. We’ll be back for sure.

I would have gave this place a 5 star review, but my experience there was… surprising to say the least. I went in with my friends who were staying to eat their food and I had to place mine to go. As i was waiting for my food to be done, my friends had ordered an appetizer, and as my friend was eating her egg rolls, the lady who was serving us quickly comes over and kinda raises her voice at my friend for «not eating it right» and literally walked over to her plate of food and started touching it with her hands!!! We were all in shock we didn’t even know what to say! Then my friend asks if what the red bottle is on the table and she told us it was sriracha. Before she even finished her sentence she was already adding sriracha to my friends sauce! Again we were in shock but I could feel my blood begin to boil. My family has 3 restaurants and this is not acceptable. I had placed my order before my friends had placed theirs for their phở and their food came out first. I noticed that they didn’t give much veggies so o went up to my waitress and wanted to pay extra for some veggies for my soup. I had 4 soups I was taking home and knew what they had was not enough. No problem, menu says I can order more. nope. According to my server that was not an option because she «knows better and the amount they give is enough.» Well I don’t know why it’s a freakn option on the menu then if I can’t even order extra and PAY for it. Anyways, my food comes out and I ask for side of sriracha for each soup. She says she mixed the hoisin sauce with the sriracha already. I told her if that was the case then I want all new hoisin sauce and sriracha because she doesn’t know how much each person likes their soup but no «sauce is good like this, I already know» no. You don’t know my life lady, and you don’t know the people who I’m bringing this food to. We literally had to get into a yelling match and it was quite embarrassing because she was making me feel stupid in front of everyone because apparently I don’t know my sauces? I kept telling her to bring me out empty containers then so I can just pour the damn sauce separately myself instead of mixed and she snatched the cups out of my hand when the other server gave it to me and started pouring my sauce for me!!! Then she kinda threw them in my box because she was clearly annoyed I just wanted plain hoisin sauce and plain sriracha in SEPARATE cups. Needless to say my family used ALL the sauces including the extras so I was right and she was clearly wrong. Never again will I come here again.

SO glad to have found another Phở place close to work that isn’t Miss Saigon. This is every bit as good, and it’s quiet. The lady who owns the place is wonderful and I felt like my mom was hovering over me feeding me. It was awesome. Looking forward to going back and trying other menu items — it all looks so good.

LOVE Phở 88! We order the phở with pork and seafood, amazing! I had the flu so my husband would bring home Phở from different places in Tucson and Phở 88 was hands down the best! The Sisters who own this delightful place are charming, and kind!

My fave viet restaurant was closed today so we were forced to go somewhere else… We decided to try phở 88 since we always seee it… I was really wanting a rice plate but most people love the phở here so we decided to get phở… I got the one with everything in it (rare steak, tripe and tendons at least theses were the only meat i saw in my bowl)
The soup was pretty bland to begin with but I guess it is not greasy at all which makes it healthy… I like a lil bit of grease on mine… And the meat was not a lot I was still left wanting more after a regular large bowl of phở…
For appetizers we got the spring roll with the pork and shrimp… Haven’t had this in a while withthe actual mint so it was a suprise… I def don’t like those mint leaves lol. But as soon as I picked them out of the spring rolls they were fine.
Their thai tea was good tho.
The service was not bad but still kinda slow. There was three tables filled in the whole restaurant… The two older ladies running the place were sweet.
Def no lines to wait for service which is nice.
Would maybe go back for their rice plates but for me the phở was just eh.

My favorite phở in town. It’s the healthiest as well. Notice it’s light color and lack of oil floating at the top? That’s because the flavor is built naturally. I have moved to putting a bit of Sriracha and hoisin on the noodles as I eat them as to not ruin the true taste of the broth. Delicious bun bowl has a substantial amount of veggies to balance the meat and noodles. The egg rolls are great and unique, especially when properly wrapped in lettuce with cilantro and dipped in fish sauce. Owners are super friendly.

Best Vietnamese food in town!!! I love everything here & the service is always super amazing! Feels like home!

This place makes Miss Saigon look like the Taco Bell of Mexican food.

Eat here every time I am in Tucson. The lady that runs the place is amazing. This is the place to go to get introduced to phở!

Simple yet incredibly gracious service and good food. Located in plain store front in a strip mall, inside is a medium sized room with booth and tables. Gracious owner greets you. Spring rolls and vaious phở’s are what stand out. No frills, just great food at reasonable price and wonderful service.

We have visited Phở 88 several times and it’s consistently delicious! By far the best Phở we’ve had. We tried others just to see, but always come back here. I also love that the server who is always there and serving (really should learn her name!). We don’t even have to order because she already knows what we like!

Ate there once but have not returned because the service was cold and unfriendly. Worse was that they would not provide To Go containers. The wait staff seed insulted that we asked! I’ve never run into this at any other restaurant. There are better Phở places in town who appreciate their customers. I hope someone else would take over this space & open a coffee shop/​café (not another coffeehouse).

This is my 2^nd favorite Vietnamese place in the Tucson area (that I’ve found so far). Much quieter and less crowded than Miss Saigon. Maybe a little more affordable, too? The owner is, indeed, super sweet and attentive. It’s a great place to go for a quiet meal, read a book. Food is great. All of it. I love the Bun, egg rolls, spring rolls, and Thai Iced tea.

I have eaten here a few times now and LOVE it. The food is delicious an the service is always wonderful. It is right down the street from our house and there are no lines like at Miss Saigon. This place is just as good, if not better because it is calmer and quieter.

The food was delicious. I had a combo lo neon dish. It had beef, chicken and shrimp. The noodles were thick and tasty. The sauce was not over powering, but it had good flavor. The staff was nice and genuine. Reminded me of an auntie-​like figure.

So disappointed with the phở restaurants in Tucson. Service’s rude, food’s bad, and it’s pricy for phở.
No cilantro in the Phở! This is what they brought to us. Are they stupid? You supposed to let me eat like this? Chop it moron!

First and foremost — the delicious sounding menu linked here on Unilocal as well as many other sites online is completely incorrect. They currently make almost nothing on that menu (too bad, it sounds great). They insisted that the menu does not exist anywhere online and that you must go to the shop to order.
It’s decent Phở, but between the menu disappointment and the fact that you can get tastier Phở down the street at Ms. Saigon, I can’t strongly recommend.

This place is so phở-​king good! The service is great and friendly. Will be back again!
