What exactly are you looking for in a gym? Do you need the meat market or would you be satisfied with decent equipment that is well maintained, clean, and available for your use since there isn’t a swarm of people in tight clothing admiring themselves in the mirror and using up all the workout benches? You probably won’t meet your next hookup or the love of your life here but you will find a good, air-conditioned space to work yourself out in. All that said, this is my Y of choice. The others are nicer, but this one is just more comfortable and better suits my needs.

Great customer service. I had stopped by to sign up for the Holiday keep the weight off challenge. The fb ad had read it was open to everyone. Turns out, «everyone who’s a member». I should have known better because only a few weeks before I’d run into the same thing at the downtown Y for a different program. However, when I left the downtown Y I wanted to kick some Y butt. When I left the Lighthouse I had a smile on my face cause the guy was so nice and apologetic. Still only 2 stars because the ad should have been written«open to all members».

I started putting on the pounds, so I decided to sign up with the Y. Even though this isn’t the most state of the art gym, and the work out rooms are not huge. But the environment is great, everyone who works there is really nice. Even the people who work out there are nice. There are tons of events and daycare for kids. They have a really nice lounge area with water, coffee and tables. You will often see people just using the area to do paper work or homework. Just a really nice atmosphere to get your exercise on. The only reason it loses a star is that it is 38 dollars a month, which is right up there with some of the really nice gyms. Seems a bit much for what they offer.

Okay, I’ll admit the YMCA is only for really old people or toddlers in day care. Still, I recently joined and I don’t regret my decision at all. For one, no pressure to join with weird salespeople making you feel guilty for not signing up with the ridiculous mono-gym. At the YMCA join or don’t, no pressure. Want to try it out before you decide? Simply sign in and enjoy. This particular branch is cozy with all the amenities and new equipment. There is also a nice selection of classes(they may be filled with old people, attend at your discretion. Certainly the one called«Silver Sneakers» is probably not appropriate for anyone younger than 75.) But if you get a membership, you can attend any of the other YMCAs here in town and even anywhere else in the country. I like that. The fees are reasonable, $ 38/month.
