This place is absolutely awful. I would not recommend to anyone. Sandwiches were horrible, greasy, and could not be picked up. French fries were saturated in grease. Grilled cheese was cooked on dirty grill and also saturated in grease. Floor is disgusting. Very over-priced. Will not be returning.

The worse presentation of food I have ever gotten for $ 13. Got a salad one time from this place a while back it was basically all iceberg lettuce I said I would try them again well this time I will never go back to this establishment. Pulled the sausage sandwich out of the bag and grease saturated everywhere. You can see in the pictures that it’s just all grease it was accumulated on the bottom of the bread which then the bread opened up and everything fell out of the sandwich. Never again.

Really rude female that answers the phone and claims to be the manager. The onion rings aren’t the same lucious, tasty ones they used to have. These SUCKED and we tossed them in the garbage. Yes, they were that bad. Didn’t have the smooth tempura style batter but were like a panko breading. DON’T GETTHEM. Called to complain and the bitchy manager said they haven’t changed them in 3 years. I. Don’t. Think. So. No offer for compensation. Won’t return unless the owner reaches out to me.

Like an idiot I’ve been driving past this place for years and went to Luke’s when I craved a good sandwich. This place is so much better and the service is super fast and friendly. Had an Italian beef with cheese and sweet peppers, so huge I only are half and happily finished it off for dinner later. Will definitely be back to try other things on the menu!

Kenny D’s is hands down the best Chicago sandwich shop in Tucson, don’t even think about Luke’s! Luke’s used to be good years ago but they’ve fallen off, they short their sandwiches soo much now, but not Kenny D’s! They’re loaded and done right sandwiches every time with tremendous flavor, you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu! The only bad thing I will say which hopefully they’ve already switched or will soon enough is their fries, recently as in the past month or so they changed vendors I think cause their fries just aren’t what they used to be anymore, but sandwiches are still top notch. Thanks Kenny D’s!

Best combo sandwich(italian beef and Italian sausage) in Tucson for my money, I highly recommend this place.

I got a junior Italian beef and junior fry. They were both huge and nothing junior about them at all. The food was amazing. I love it. They do dip the bottom piece of bread so if you don’t want that part wet ask for the juice on the side. I personally liked it dip. The fries are crinkle cut ones and really good. It was extremely hot inside and the décor is terrible but whatever, the food made up for it all.

I could go on and on how great the food is here. Real deal Chicago Style sandwiches, and hot dogs! I’ve never been disappointed with anything on the menu. My go to sandwich is the Italian beef/sausage combo The junior is plenty but the regular is more than a meal! The bread is fantastic, the beef is seasoned perfectly and juicy! You will get messy. You will be back! They do it right! Plus as a bonus, reruns of 70’s sitcoms are usually playing on the TV!

Italian beef was pretty tasteless. Used to be the staff was family and friendly. Stood at the counter for several minites before anybody noticed I was there. Asked if they could cut the sandwich in half and wrap them separately. Nope. That’s two sandwiches. I asked about the policy, and the fat chick old me she doesn’t make the rules, she just enforces them. She said something nasty to me on the way out. Couldn’t near it. Good thing. Another old Tucson resturant gone to the customer service dogs. One wonders of the owner reads his Unilocal reviews.

Not good at all I ordered Italian sausage with peppers cheese I could not even pick it up it was so gross dipping in grease so I had to ask for a fork to eat it. The guy who took my order must have been in a bad mood he was real short with people on the phone and in the store everything is a additional cost peppers and cheese ranch dressing for the poppers the fork was free

I’ve been wanting to have an Italian beef sub here since the other store closed on Speedway and that was many years ago. Finally got near(we live near Marana) while delivering a truck to be worked on way out East so my wife and I stopped for lunch. We each ordered the regular sized Italian beef sandwiches(dry — which isn’t completely dry but it’s not sloppy soggy) with both kinds of peppers and a half Order of fries and 2 iced teas. Bill was 22 bucks. What we got is why you want to come here. The sandwiches are stuffed with tender mildly spiced Roast beef and delicious, the bread rolls are similar to, if not Amorosa rolls and also delicious. The crinkle fries were perfectly done and the iced tea looks brewed in a jar. 4 stars + for the food! What you wish you didn’t have to put up with when you come here is: A. A very ‘harried’ and gruff, as in unfriendly person at the order desk. And there were only 5 people in the joint at this point, two were us and two were waiting and had already ordered! B. No obvious customer rest rooms, my guess is there aren’t any. We would have liked to wash our hands before lunch and definitely NEEDED to wash our hands after eating our very messy ‘dry’ sandwiches, we were afraid to ask the gruff order-taker so we washed in the parking lot with a bottle of drinking water and napkins from inside. C. Filthy dirty and stained and broken ceiling tiles in a very rusted T-bar ceiling system, dirty supply registers distributing the ‘air’… very unappealing when you look up into the ceiling. D. Up charge for Ranch dressing for the fries… With no credit for not eating ketchup with the fries ;-) E. Meh décor, obviously in-attention over a long period of time here. Some scattered photos of ?? Kenny D? or someone else worthy of being there evidently. I remember the speedway store was much brighter, cleaner and seemed to have much happier and friendly employees working there. If you want the real deal Italian beef sandwiches on great sub rolls this is the place to come. If you want beer there is an Irish pub next door. If you want an iced tea refill… You ask for it, I’m not going to! If you would rather not deal with a, b, c, or d above — go elsewhere.

The best Italian Beef in town by far!!! Very messy and juicy! If anyone complains about it being somewhat soggy they don’t know what a true Italian beef is supposed to be! Worth all the mess. They are going to cash and debit only though… I hope it doesn’t slow their business down.

Yes, I am a fan. I ordered just a ½ order turkey sub. It was very large. The BF had the combo sandwich. If you eat there I am sure it is great. But by the time we got it home, the paper wrap was pretty saturated in grease. However, he still loved it. Me, I was not willing to try it. The fries are very thick, and surprisingly not that greasy. But they needed just a little salt. The guy at the counter was pretty nice and the food came out quickly. Definitely a good spot to grab a sandwich and fries.

We came here for lunch about a week ago, and it was such a delight! The husband had been here previously, and took me here to get a sandwich. I had the Italian Sausage with sweet peppers, and while it was delicious, it was an eat-this-at-home-with-the-blinds-drawn-lest-anyone-see-you-attacking-this-beast-with-grease-running-down-your-face sort of sandwich. Greasy, in the best way possible! I am a huge fan! He got the pastrami, and it was to die for! Cheese, mustard and a pickle, the way the pastrami gods intended! We got a fries to share, and while they SEEM like your regular, frozen, purchased in bulk fried based on appearance, they are so much more than that. They have structural integrity, crispy on the outside hot and mushy on the inside. They were so yummy. One fries was all we needed, though. When they say«large» fries, they are not messing around!

They can literally fry anything and it will taste amazing. When I am jones’ing for an Italian beef or sausage sandwich, with a side of amazing crinkle cut fries, I am going with Kenny. Throw in a large RC cola and I am set. Sure, it can be hit and miss, and often that’s due to the help, but I really appreciate local places like this. It’s too bad their second location closer to my place shut up shop, but I’m glad they are still in town on 22nd. I need to get back sooner than later.

I came to Kenny D’s for lunch because I was headed for a nearby business. I hadn’t been to Kenny D’s in a few years and I wash curious if they’d improved. Many years ago I enjoyed this place, but I stopped coming here after a drop in the food quality. This visit wasn’t the redemption I was hoping for. I ordered an Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers. When the sandwich arrived, it was huge, but looked nothing like the one in the picture from the window. And despite paying extra for sweet peppers(which are plural on the menu), it came with one sweet pepper which didn’t cover half the sandwich. And worse, the pepper was flavorless. So was the beef. The sandwich tasted like nothing. The beef was under-seasoned, at best. The french roll also gave me problems. Everything except the top crust was extremely soggy, and the sandwich fell apart as I tried to eat it. The firm upper crust was no help here. Ultimately I gave up on the sandwich and threw it away. I used to like the Chicago dogs here. I stopped coming here when those dropped in quality and it’s clear from the Italian beef that there’s no reason for me to come back again.

Mom and I stopped in here before she got a perm at the shop a few doors down. She got a hamburger and loved it! Juicy, cooked well, just the right amount of toppings. I got a regular sized Italian. It was delicious. I took half to Hubby for his lunch. He liked it a lot too. Got a half order of fries which were hot and fresh, but SALTY! Ketchup helped a little, but not a lot. Note to self: ask for no salt fries next time. Because there will be a next time. The rest of the food was good enough to go back!

Tucson is home to many people who grew up in the Midwest. So it should not be overly shocking to find out that there are actually numerous Chicago hot dog and sandwich restaurants littered throughout Pima County. Kenney D’s is a staple of Tucson’s east side and it’s an establishment that I have been quite fond of since my first trip there back in 2000. Not only does this place serve a variety of high quality hot dogs, but they also produce some of the best subs in the area. I especially love the hot pastrami. The meat always tastes fresh and well seasoned. Many restaurants that attempt to put together a pastrami sandwich screw it up by dousing it in some sort of sauce or mayo or even too much mustard(Remember, a little bit of mustard goes a long way, folks). This one was done right. Just enough mustard to compliment the The marinara sauce used for the chicken parmesan and meatball subs is spectacular. The acidity and saltiness of the sauce come together perfectly and the meat — whether it’s beef or chicken — is always above par. The service is straight and to the point. Friendly, but also quick and efficient. Every visit I have made over the years has always been an extremely pleasant one making me want to come back in the impending future to gorge myself on greasy Chicago cuisine. I strongly suggest all Tucson residents to make it to 22nd and Kolb and give this enterprise your hard-earned dollars. They, in turn, will work hard to make sure your taste buds and appetite are satisfied
