You should definitely head to a JV’s Tacos and Hot Dogs if you are looking for a quick inexpensive meal. It really is delicious and simple.

JV’s is good. Unequivocally good. Moreover, they are good across the menu. They may not be a full manifestation of Taco Genius, but they are close. The benchmark carne asada was probably the least exciting thing on the menu, but it was still tasty, well cooked, and on par with most taco trucks. It got even better when drowned in cheese and pressed into a caramelo. While the caramelo cheese was fairly standard, the tortilla was immensely good, flaky, and browned to a uniform golden crispiness. The cook deserves an Olympic medal for his technique – you could not cook a caramelo more perfectly. The adobada tacos deserve mention for their deliciousness, too. The marinade was complex but not spicy, while the meat was a perfect combination of juicy and slightly charred. Putting salsa on such tacos would be an act of disrespect. You can also get yellow chiles stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, and fried in a pool of grease at two for a dollar. Playing Russian roulette with your health has never been more gratifying. Good salsa bar, relatively clean and friendly atmosphere, and only a few gunshots down the street. There weren’t any aguas frescas available, but there was an entire table of random curios in case you forgot to bring your tiny, decorative guitar.

Well I may have to now rethink my favorite hotdog stand in Tucson. These guys have soared to the top over Ruiz and El Sinaloanese 3, toasted bun, perfect amount of sauces, fresh cooked, and a bacon wrapped cheese filled pepper. Outstanding. Tossed in a couple carne asada tacos just to see how they did. Also very good. Can’t wait to go back and try the Vampiros Taco. Sounds good and should definitely keep them high on my list.

This is one of those places you dream about. JV’s consists of a hot dog stand and a trailer. You order tacos, drinks, tortas, quesadillas, carmelos, and of course hot dogs from the trailer. A little fixings cart with salsa is next to the trailer as well as is a big cooler of soda pop. The tacos and quesadillas are great but I come here for the Sonoran Hot dogs. They are the best around. The white bun, the whole beans, the hot dog cooked wrapped in bacon, the sauce… man this is the place. As a bonus you get a pepper stuffed with cheese and also cooked wrapped in bacon. Words can’t do justice to this place. In fact, you can rent a cart for parties which I did. It was a totally hit. If you are heading down or in the area of the the airport give this place a try. You will be glad you did plus you get to practice Spanish. Cash only.
