John is a neuromuscular therapist, which is a quite different trom a massage therapist. His work lasts and can solve chronic problems such as tight IT bands from cycling, running, hiking or simply walking. «Mouse shoulder» is also an issue he addresses for me, where repetitive use of a computer mouse tightens muscles in my shoulder, chest and neck. Beneath the major muscles are small ones like the strings of a piano. That’s where neuromuscular knowledge makes a difference. John is able to trace muscular problems back to their source as he divides and conquers the tightest tertiary muscles. This can be a participatory process where the patient breathes deeply into and slowly lets out breath to assist in the release from the tight muscle. John might ask you to lift an arm or leg and try to pull it back as he provides gentle resistance to gradually unknot muscles. As an athlete himself, he understands all the ways we can tie up muscles. He also offers stretching exercises to prevent reoccurrence and makes notes of what he’s done in the past. I have been a patient 4−8x a year for the past 9 yrs and I won’t work with anyone else.

John is one of the LMTs in town that I consider to be my main competition. He does NMT work and has very very strong hands. I trust him with my body and I recommend him whenever I can’t meet someone’s appointment needs. (please note: I now work with John. This review was posted before I moved into his office though and he’s still my massage therapist, as well as my business competitor)
