My girlfriend and I decided to try out grumpys today while we’re visiting Tucson for the week, our hotel listed it as a «Tucson original» and we wanted to try something local for lunch. The appearance was very nice and looked to be clean but the entire restaurant had some odd smell to it. I have worked in the food service industry before and I know sometimes things just happen but it was just an odd smell, I’d compare it to feet, or maybe bad cheese. We ordered two sweet teas and the first round was great, we are both from the south eastern part of the country and good sweet tea is apparently hard to find out here so that was good but whatever batch was made after that had entirely too much sugar, even by our standards. Seriously, if you’ve got blood sugar issues maybe skip the tea here. Our appetizer(mozzarella sticks) was so-so but the marinara sauce that came with it looked to be red water that was strait out of the microwave. I had a patty melt and she had the chicken tender basket. Neither were very good in our opinions, the fries were great though. I’m not really sure what I was expecting on a weekday lunch but I would’ve at least assumed it would be fast, which it was not, which is our only real complaint with the entire experience. It seemed like it took entirely too long to get our food, our check, and then my card back. Try somewhere else unless you want completely bland bar food and especially if you’re in a hurry. Also, the waitress’ quips of «what’s it Ganna be honey» weren’t appreciated on our part.

Is your palate craving processed food? Do you have an insatiable yearning to fill your body with preservatives from simple foods that could easily be prepared in-house but ownership would rather not be bothered? Whether you live or are visiting the Great American Southwest, would you prefer to eat guacamole shipped cross-country in a plastic bag, salsa from a plastic jar and wash it down with a margarita that is obviously made with rock-gut tequila and sweet and sour syrup from a jug? When it comes to classic diner fare, do you prefer premade meatloaf shipped in the form of a log with a hot side of mashed potatoes from a bag? How about a nice machine-formed, hormone and antibiotic-ridden burger that is, at best, 70% lean? Then, to top it off, would you like one of the owners to stand at your table and burn your ear off with conversation that you could care less about while you’re trying to relax, even though you’re giving off negative body language that someone born without a brain stem could pick up on? If you’ve answered yes to all of these scenarios, then Grumpy’s would be your personal Utopia. Serving nothing but complete crap, processed, preservative laden food food that could easily be made fresh by any culinary dropout with a side of unwanted conversation about employee’s emotional and chemical problems. Avoid this place. There are so many restaurants that serve fresh food. Don’t waste your time and money on this low grade garbage.

I just had the best burger I’ve ever had in my life. Don’t tell my husband, because he makes AMAZING burgers! My kids and I came to Tucson to pick up my daughter from a friend’s house. We chose Grumpy’s for lunch because the kids wanted American fare, it was nearby, and it had good reviews on Unilocal!I’m so glad we came here. I HIGHLY recommend the crispy jalapeño burger. Absolutely delicious! Service was good, prices were reasonable. I will have to find more excuses to come to Tucson!

Stopped in for breakfast. First off, the coffee. Strong, not bitter at all. Freshly made and hot. The staff make sure your cup stays full. I tried the eggs benedict. This is a tough one to pull off. Poached eggs, hollandaise, toasted English muffin and Canadian bacon. There’s a reason I don’t make it at home. Too much work. It was great! Perfectly poached eggs. Crispy muffin. Had it with a side of hash browns, perfectly golden and crispy. The service was friendly, funny, engaging. I’ll be back!

Really nice happy hour. Friendly service and good burgers cooked to order. I had a jalapeño burger cooked medium rare and it was amazing. Micro brews on tap.

Bottom line: go here if you are looking for a decent burger AND a beer, and don’t want to listen to noisy kids at Smashburger. My wife and I went for lunch on a Tuesday, which is Burger Day, i.e. all burgs are $ 5.99. It’s a good deal. It’s an even better deal if you order one of the daily beer specials, i.e. $ 3 for a brewski. That’s a helluva deal, a burger and a beer for under $ 10. I ordered the Black and Blue burger. Many places put bacon on their blue cheese burger, but Grumpy’s does not. You get lots of thinly-sliced fried onions though. When my burger arrived I was a little underwhelmed by the size, it looked rather small sitting on the plate. It appeared, though one cannot be sure unless you go back into the kitchen, that the burger was a pre-made patty, i.e. it was a perfectly shaped hockey puck. The good news is the burger was done to perfection(medium-rare for me), and VERY juicy. My wife had the fries which were rather«meh», I had the coleslaw which was quite good. Service was attentive without being pesky — the waitress was there when we needed her to refill our drinks. It’s tough for this kind of place to compete with the newer Fast Casual restaurants like Smashburger or Five Guys, but if you are looking for a decent burger and a reasonably priced cold brew to go with it Grumpy’s is as good as any place in the area.

This place is so good! And the bloody Mary’s are delicious! I have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and haven’t been disappointed. The wings are so yummy as well as there sandwich’s. I give grumpy’s five stars because the food is great as so is the service.

Very pleased with breakfast service! Waitress was friendly. Banana walnut pancakes taste like momma’s cooking.

We went here for breakfast before we went to the air show and it was DELICIOUS. The coyote burrito was filled with flavor and I couldn’t have asked for a better meal before going to walk around. Check out my full review here

Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was attentive without hovering and seemed to understand that lunch is not about sitting around waiting for things. Honey hot wings were great, mushroom provolone burger was tasty. My only criticism would be if you ask me how I want my burger cooked, please at least come close to that. «Medium» does not mean well done.

Grumpy’s definitely has earned a bump to five stars. Every visit has been a combination of great service and excellent food. The fact that they are batting a thousand on burgers being cooked perfectly to order is pretty outstanding. My French Dip sandwich was one of the best in recent memory. Clearly sliced from real rib roast, you could taste the hint of garlic and it was seasoned perfectly. The au jus tastes like it comes from the roasting pan, not a can or seasoning mix.

One of our favorite places to go — last minute. If you have nothing to cook and you want to go as you are and catch the game too — Grumpy’s is the place! We always have great service and tasty food. The prices are extremely reasonable. I cannot find a tastier bacon cheeseburger on the northwest side. When I ask for a cheeseburger I want it juicy, dripping with juices and messy and that’s way Grumpy’s does it!

*****ONLYGETTING2STARSBECAUSEOFTHEOWNER***** Let me start by saying that I have never, not once, had a bad experience with the food or service here. All of the girls/guys that work here are SOAWESOME!!! It’s just too bad that the owner feels the need to follow the servers around, breathing down their necks and talking to them like crap! Right in front of customers too! It’s insane. Let your employees do their job! You make the energy in the room so intense and negative. I will obviously be back(because of the great food & service) but I hope the owner reads this and realizes that it’s completely unnecessary to treat your crew that way.

Okay… Grumpy’s was alright… I believe there’s better spots for burgers though. I had the open face burger, but instead of bread I opted for lettuce. Let’s just say, I woke up last night feeling like I ate a pound of msg haha. I think it was the green chili that they served. I mean, really? Anyways, we came here on a Monday night. It was slow, only one table. We sat down and ordered. What felt like 30 minutes pass before we get our food, and mind you, it’s not like the food was very difficult to prepare. Burgers mostly. Nothing too crazy. As I said previously, I ordered Grumpy’s open faced burger. It was umm not as good as I thought it could be. I felt as if the chili came out of a can. And it just wasn’t satisfying. This place is rated as 4 stars and maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but I’m sure there are better things around. I probably won’t come back here, even if I was visiting. It didn’t last as a lasting impression on me, but hey, try it out and if you disagree let me know what you got!

Great food, prices and a regular stop. Buffalo sticks are a must. Nuclear wings if you can handle the heat. Best reben in state.

I walked in a few minutes after opening on a Friday morning and there were already some regulars seated with coffee, so it’s definitely a neighborhood place. I had the supreme omelette and though it had ham and bacon in it, it was not greasy at all. The home fries were wonderfully cooked. I didn’t try enough of the menu to give it a full 5 stars but I don’t see anyone going wrong with the other breakfast or lunch /dinner items. Rich’s recommendation: word is you can add avocado, which would make omelettes even better.

I have now been here for literally every meal of the day, and for any meal this place does not disappoint! For breakfast, I have had either the French Toast bfast sandwich or the Bfast Burrito add avo… and both are pretty damn tasty! The coffee is drinkable(moreso than other bfast places I have frequented in the area) and I have even had a Blue Moon w/my 11am weekday«brunch» w/o judgement from the very courteous staff! For Lunch I have had their reuben and I have to say as a Reuben Oficiando, they do theirs right and the corned beef here is so flavorful, I have eaten it straight off the sandwich itself! For dinner I have had their cheeseburger, which is solid and I really like that they have some local seasonal brews(usually bottle only, though they did have Kilt Lifter on draft). I discovered a Nimbus here that was surprisingly good! As for dessert, I have only ever had their cinnamon rolls, which my Mom was a big fan of, so now I try to have one every time I stop by in her honor. Again, I have to give kudos to their staff! They have always been quick to come and take our order, have always accommodated any requests and some are even entertaining(if you get Zach as your waiter you’ll understand what I’m talking about). I have even done take-out with them and they were so quick about getting the take-out ready and the order correct and even offered me water while I was waiting. In any case, Grumpy’s is a reasonably priced go to for any meal!

I used to live around the Grumpys area so my family and i frequently went in there for a good few years. Everytime we left dissapointed. The food is ok, nothing special and not worth the price. They have creative dishes like the«Chili Mac» which is spaghetti noodles covered in chili, and a hamburger with penut butter on it, but you cant build a resturant on a few adventurous items. Food never comes out perfect even though its basically expensive bar food that isnt very difficult to make. I work in the front of the house of a resturant so i know how hard of a job serving can be, however these servers just dont even try. My family and I always waited FOREVER for a refill, we only saw our server when she would take the order, bring the food out(which would sometimes take over a half an hour to 45 min), and give us the check. Unacceptable. It was our fault for continuing to waste money(food is pricy) at a place with below sub-par food and service. Please do not make our same mistake!

Yum Yum! This place was great. I ordered a Southwest Chicken w/a side of fruit. Chicken had flavor & so did the green chili. The fruit was fresh & in season. My husband had a burger with fries, which I was told it was good. Thick fries cook right, hamburger was cooked to perfection. Service was friendly & fast. Not sure how they got the name BUT I recommend the place.
