Grace to the Nations church

Positives:
I attended for 3 years.
Lead of security (volunteer position) was best man at my wedding. His family is the glue that prevents this church from permanently ending. Restrooms maintained by on-​site staff and plenty of parking. Very nice gym of a school lost to inept private charter admin.
No rampant sexual assaults of children. (Tucson Catholic Diocese was involved in that scandal, many of its members seeking out churches like Grace.)
Not So Positives:
Very racist and nepotistic place. You’re either brown or you’re not. You’re either family or married to family or you’re not.
Latino women 20 – 60 not yet naturalized will love this church. Latino musician Obed Orozco is a puppet for his wife, daughter of the founder.
Female senior pastor is a US-​born blonde with a narcissism problem. 30 years of bad fruit.
Only woman I know of with a bigger thirst for power is Hillary Clinton.
Some of the volunteers are nice… until they are not nice. Singles: if you want to remain Single, GTTN is very good. Seeking new life and possible remarriage: Do Not Enter.
Like many cults do, their leaders monitor and follow former members and demand they either speak well of GTTN or remain silent. Retaliation stories fill neighboring church plants.
A lot of false prophesy. ‘Tongues’ teaching is overhyped. ‘Gifts’ and movement of the Spirit as described in Acts is performed as if for TV, following TBN/​700 Club type model. Their ‘worship team’ is happy to simulate the effects of the Spirit, complete with body catchers and head slapping Name It And Claim It style stage antics. When the Spirit actually moves, Leadership freaks out. (Outta their control.)
This church (specifically this site) is the reason why Calvary Chapel was born. Founder John Casteel (since fired by his own kids who now run it) gave Chuck Smith an ultimate. Why Grace Changes Everything (Amazon) was Smith’s memoir detailing what happened. Grace taught non-​trinity Jesus in the late 60s/​70s.
Since then, a member of the Foursquare church, and its TV presence TBN. Brief rumblings of denomination change or location change, GTTN remains in active directory for Foursquare International.
Spiritual abuse at its finest. GTTN, aka Grace Chapel is responsible for more involuntary protestant church plants than any other church founded in the same decade/​region.
In 1999, one of the administrative pastors actually bodychecked an elder during a budgetary meeting. The elder was voicing his concern over ethics. It took a year for Grace to fire the pastor.
Some new faces in leadership, same old dogma. Blondie In Charge.
Nearby Calvary is not much better.
Celebrate Recovery is modestly run by nice lay people, but in the end, everything is micro managed by Blondie.
Denomination has mafia ties at corporate level.
Update: January 2016. A current member informed me that Obed Orozco delivered a racism-​charged sermon on a Sunday. He said cops beat up nonwhites.
Sadly, few complained.

When we moved to Tucson three years ago it took some time to find a new church home. When we first heard Rae and Obed Orozco give a sermon we knew we had found our new home. I have never heard such heartfelt and meaningful preaching in any church anywhere else. I cannot tell you exactly how they are different but they will touch you in a whole new way. They have very different preaching styles but both are amazing. The church is large and multicultural and very friendly. They have several different ministries including an African American fellowship, and they have a large Hispanic population and do a Spanish service as well. Music amazing also. Try this church; it’s a must!
