The Good: The only positive in this mom and pop operation. MOM; A very nice lady with a can do attitude and a smile to go with it. Very pleasant to deal with and happy to help. Folks here is your one Star. The Bad: The shop; a very quaint little hole in the wall which has been run by the co Checks, No Credit Cards… CASHONLY No star here. The UGLY: For a knifesmith whom has been in the trade for as long as the current Chucks owner. I’m truly appalled that Mr. Chuck could not sharpen a simple TANTO blade. My six year old nephew could have done a better job with a brick and a hammer on the pavement in the street in front of my house. When I dropped the knife off I kindly informed MOM that this was a Benchmade auto opener with a Tanto blade. My first flag should have been when she couldn’t open it. When I asked if they could sharpen the mythical Tanto blade I was given a smile, a yes, and it will be done in two days. What I was returned was a Benchmade auto opener with a rounded off no longer Tanto blade. In effect Mr Chuck basically ruined a $ 200 knife. What was his excuse you say? «Well you see, those are really hard to sharpen. It shaves real nice». Had I wanted a shave I would have brought them a razor to sharpen. Had he called and said«Sir I’m not sure I can sharpen this knife; those are really hard to sharpen». I would have kindly collected my knife and sent it to the factory for sharpening as Benchmade will sharpen most of its knifes for the price of shipping. Straight edges and simple garden shears I’m sure they are fine, but if you have a high speed low drag go fast piece of cutlery worth more than something to can replace at the local Wal-Mart for less than $ 20, I wouldn’t recommend using Chuck’s. Yes, I should have spent the money and sent the knife to the factory. I know I know.

I took the office paper cutter to Chuck’s and had a pleasant experience. It was ready when promised and inexpensive. $ 10 to sharpen the blade. The shop seems very busy so I’m glad a local company seems to be thriving.
