OMG! This place needs to be on the map. Hands down best Mexican Food ever. Great service is a bonus. I heart heart this place. — Val Muldez

Good service great prices and good food. Flavor is good but not great and that the only reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars.

I was visiting Tucson while my wife was at a conference and wanted to find a good Sonoran breakfast spot. Stumbled on to this place. I really lucked out. The food was fresh and hot. The salsas delicious. It’s a family friendly hole in the wall. No pretension. Just good food.

The food is tasty, refreshing, affordable and fast without tasting like fast food(depends on what you order though). Not your typical taco/burrito joint though they do have those items. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Depending on the server knowing a little Spanish makes ordering specials listed on the wall easier. This has changed a little since the old days. The décor is not worth mentioning but this place is about the food. Like the saying goes, hole in the wall(though not completely true anymore after remodel) but great food. I keep going back and they have yet to disappoint even if they qualify as cheap eat for some things. My favorites are the pescado ceviches and El Famoso 7 Mares(note about seven sea soup: sting ray has a… interesting taste that is not for everyone) and tacos of course. Other things like rice and beans, enchilada, bean burritos are average but I don’t visit here for those reasons so does not bother me. Oh btw that picture of the burrito truck is not accurate. They do have a store next to it. Keep in mind this 3 stars in in reference to the category of cheap, fast eats so should not be compared to say a review on Maynards and Café Poca Cosa. If there was a dives category this would be a solid 4.5 stars.

Nice family run restaurant. Cozy and decent food but nothing special.

Second time around, Azadero y Taqueria Sonora achieves consistency, but not memorability. Their tripas are crispy on the outside while still being nicely gelatinous on the inside. While that sounds disgusting, I think it’s actually a sign of being well executed. Unfortunately, despite the technical skill of the cooks, the flavor is still pretty thick and dull – something is missing. There is a decent salsa and condiment bar that apologizes for the flavor, but its apology only goes so far. Their cabeza lacks strong flavor and is pulverized to a near-paste. Again, the heroic efforts of the salsa bar were called for and, again, they were not sufficient. Thankfully, their asada is exactly what it should be. You will find better ones, but it is nothing to be ashamed of: a squeeze of lime is all you need. At least some of their aguas frescas are made fresh on site; on my last visit it looked like someone came through with an axe and wreaked havoc on the local watermelon population. That deserves serious applause. Azadero y Taqueria Sonora flies in the face of convention, taking orders outside the cart and bringing food to your table. Brace yourself. Prices are average, the outdoor seating is weirdly pleasant(who knew 6th Avenue and Irvington could be so relaxing?), and the staff is cool. Not worth a dedicated trip, but a decent option if you’re passing through.
