Food was good service was nasty. Place was not even half full and they tried to place us in a dark corner . Asked for a table with enough light to read the menu and were told all the tables were reserved. We told are waiter to cancel our drink orders, we were leaving and the hostess showed up again and gave us a decent table. We were there for 1 ½ hours and the other tables stood empty. Even though we had told them it was our 50th anniversary the service turned nasty. The server was cold and we had to request water and bread, twice. Not a great place to spend a special occasion. Have told many people about our experience and there response was they all had bad service. They have an attitude problem with their staff.

Ruined our valentines day. Had a reservation through open table. Got to the restaurant to be told they were running 30 minutes late on seating. We proceeded to the bar, which was very crowded. There was one bartender serving wait staff and customers. The bartender was over his head, and of course no noticeable manager around to help him. I patiently waited until he acknowledged me, about 15 minutes. I order two cocktails a basic vodka 7 up, and their watermelon mojito that was on the menu. I watched as he took the GLASS and used it to scoop ice into my drink. Anyone with common sense should know that is a big no-no, especially someone in the industry. This is a huge liability for the restaurant. The vodka 7 tasted like mold, leading me to believe the ice machine needed to be cleaned, and their watermelon mojito was made with a flavored syrup from a bottle that probably had been sitting for a while since it had a grainy mouth feel when drinking it… Unless that was broken glass in with the ice! Needless to say we left 2 full drinks($ 20) on the table and figured we would make an hour trip the other direction to try and save our day. Beautiful setting, but it does not make up for the obvious lack of training and customer service this property has. Shame on management for failing your employees.

Fantastic food in a beautiful setting! Since my parents retired in Green Valley we’ve begun the tradition of eating at The Stables for both Christmas dinner and Easter brunch. In the past couple years of doing this we’ve been very pleased with our experiences. The food is always delicious. Not super inventive, but great, high quality meals. Drinks are fantastic as well… the blood orange margarita is delicious! Service is good and the setting cannot be beat, as the restaurant is located right along the golf course with beautiful views of the mountains. We’ll continue to be back to celebrate major holidays here.

Had THANKSGIVING here. I am glad I have not to be thankful for than this dinner! Reminds me that I need to start cooking again for Thanksgiving! Turkey portion tiny however it was large enough to hide my mashed potatoes. So few spuds that I had to order a second dish. I was still hungry after leaving the micro-tasteless meal. Two stars ONLY due to the great wait taff

Stables, part of the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa has been around forever. As the anchor restaurant for the resort it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner I can’t count how many times I’ve been here over the years. It has always been good. The restaurant itself was once the stables for the Otero Ranch. Still have cobble stone floors in the entry way(sorry but if you have walking issues these are difficult to navigate) so walk carefully, especially if you are wearing heels. The main part of the restaurant looks out on the golf course and a small man-made pond where cows frequently roam. The bar is a little rustic with«saddle» bar stools. You can eat in the bar, the dinning room or the outdoor patio. I particularly enjoy their BLTA(includes avacado) on sourdough bread with spicy mayo. Comes with a side. Also tried their hummus appetizer plate which was really tasty. They have specials nightly. The used to have a German night, but not sure if they still do that. But everything on their menu is pretty good So good food and good environment… can’t go wrong. My only complaint is their chairs are heavy and need new seat padding… You sink into them then can hardly move them to get up. Obviously it does not keep me from going back.

Excellent ambiance and view of the scenic golf course. Enjoyed the bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer which was plenty for two people. Service was excellent and knowledgable of the menu as well as the resort. Chefs special was an amazing deal; $ 30 for salad main entrée and desert. Well worth the visit if your in the area.

Excellent food and excellent service. Highlights– Scallops appetizer was the best ever. The Carne Asada was thick, tender and so very tasty ! Braised Beef Short Ribs were tender and the best. The Pork Schnitzel was cooked perfectly– excellent choice. Desserts were out of this world. We sampled most of the desserts– all were excellent. Chocolate Molten cake and Crème Brûlée were absolutely delicious !

We are enjoying the holiday weekend here and had a great dinner at The Stables. We had reservations and were seated promptly in the dining area that has the large windows with an amazing view of the golf course. Our server, Vicky, was extremly pleasant and our food came out of the kitchen rather quickly. We ordered a caesar & wedge salad, beef short ribs and bacon wrapped filet and for dessert, the lava cake and crème brûlée. The star of the evening was the succulent beef short ribs. The tender, moist beef was melt in your mouth good! We enjoyed our meal and are looking forward to tomorrow’s dinner.

Top sirloin was top notch. Great asparagus and mashed taters. The view from the dining room is amazing. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Absolute worst margarita I have ever had. They put some nasty cheap orange juice in with it. Who puts crappy orange juice in a margarita???

Oh, how I love this place. My parents live in Green Valley, and every time I visit, a trip to Tubac is a must. Having lunch and a margarita on the patio at Stables is an instrinsic part of the day. I’ve eaten here many times and have never had food that wasn’t up to snuff. The burgers are great, the crab cakes are great and, most recently, the smoked salmon salad was wicked good.(So good, I went back two days later for another one.) I’m told they do a bagel with cream cheese and the same smoked salmon at breakfast. Sorry I missed that. The only reason I deducted a star is because the service can be a little spotty. Last time, I asked twice for bread(which I rarely eat, but their whole grain bread is something special) and never got any.(That’s why your tip was a little light, sweetie.) But honestly, when you’re drinking a margarita al fresco on a sunny, 78º day(having escaped the polar vortex in Wisconsin), how bad can it be?

I ordered veal liver and it came to the table looking like goo. They never offered to fix the problem. I never had such poorly served liver. My husband had fish tacos and they were not much better. We do not recommend this restaurant.

Stables Ranch Grille is part of the hotel resort where we were staying. Normally I would steer clear of hotel restaurants, but this one is not your typical hotel restaurant serving dried eggs from a buffet. All their meals are cooked to order. They are open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner but it’s breakfast where this place shines. They specialize in Southwestern cuisine and if you are a fan you will be blown away by the outstanding breakfast that is served here. The huevos ranchero are simply the best I have ever found BARNONE. But it just doesn’t stop there, the eggs benedict are out of this world along with the egg white omelet with green chile and feta cheese. In fact there are so many great dishes to choose from, you can seriously dine here for two weeks and have something different each day and it would be delicious. Most dishes come with a side of skillet potatoes or hash browns, I am not going to be any help here because they both kick ass. What did I have? Believe it or not I only had a bagel with cream cheese all three days but was lucky enough to sample all my co-workers dishes. By the way, I am not a big bagel fan, but loved theirs. Their bagels come with thin slices of smoked salmon, but I passed on that and went with tomatoes and cucumbers. We did have dinner here as well, and again I came away very impressed. Their steaks are excellent cuts and cooked to order. The bartenders need some work in cocktailology, but they do make a decent margarita.

We just spent several days at the resort and patronized Stables multiple times a day. I can say that I’ve sampled a lot of the menu and I got to know much of the staff. You cannot go wrong with visiting Stables. The dinner menu is simple, but broad. The buffalo ragout was exquisite and two others at our table said the Scottish salmon was the best they’d ever had. It’s hard to beat the creamy polenta with which it’s served. At lunch, I highly recommend the hamburger. It’s remarkable and one of the best I’ve had. It’s far from a bland patty. It has texture, flavor, and an excellent array of toppings. It’s hard to mess up breakfast, but Stables does a good job of making boring dishes special. My oatmeal was great. As was the lox & bagel served with poblano peppers. My wife loved the huevos rancheros. To be fair, we tried many items off the menu and didn’t find one that wasn’t good. Even the salsa is somehow spectacular. Also, the service was excellent. Everybody bent over backwards to help and anticipated needs which is excellent when dining with a toddler.

In Tubac for a conference and this was the only place that didn’t have an hour or longer wait. I ended up getting the nachos and they were very good. Lots of cheese, jalapenos and beef. They had some very talented musicians playing to add to the very calm and cozy ambiance of the bar area. The stools are really cool… they are actually saddles! The menu is small and no beer on draft. One thing I can say, prepare to wait a while to be served. The night we were there, there was only one person serving the bar.

Always looking for something new in the area, especially since there aren’t all that many places, we tried Stables Ranch Grill. It’s a nice setting — on the golf course in the heart of the Tubac resort. We waited at the hostess stand to be seated, but decided to just head in to the bar area and pull up a seat when no one appeared in a few minutes. The décor is old style southwest with heavy wood accents. As one of the pictures from another reviewer indicates, there are seats at the bar that are saddles, if you’re feeling kitschy. They don’t have any beers on draft, but they’ve got most of the Mexican beers in bottles, and even a few(3 – 4) German beers. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights are German nights, and you can’t have authentic German food without authentic German beer. The wine list is pretty good, with about a dozen wines by the glass, and another dozen of each by the bottle. Nothing really rare, but nice to see. After much debate in the looking at the menu, which ranges from steak to pasta to German favorites(pork schnitzel is not something you see on every menu in the area), I opted for the wedge salad and the skinny cassoulet. The salad ingredients were pretty good(nice crispy butter lettuce, ripe and flavorful tomatoes), but the salad was DRENCHED in dressing, so I suggest you order the dressing on the side. The sauce on the skinny cassoulet was delicious, but the beans were on the chalky side. Portions are generous, so if you get a salad, you could easily take half your entrée home. The timing of the dishes definitely enables this since the leisurely pace gives time for your first bites to hit your stomach and slow you down before you get your main dish. There are TVs in the bar area if you’re eating by yourself but don’t want to be alone, but the main dining room is quieter if you want to get away from it all.

I went here for mother’s day. I was not impressed with the service. After being seated outside and waiting for 15min, had to go in and let someone know that we were ready to order. No one came out to take a drink order during that time. Some one did come out and bring bread to the table so at least some of the staff were paying attention. The meal was pretty good, and would probably rate 3 stars, but the poor service requires a reduction in rating. They have a molten chocolate cake for desert. This dessert normally takes 20min, so you have to order it with your main course and it leaks hot chocolate when you cut into it. Here the dessert comes out right away and it doesn’t have the hot liquid chocolate center, it is really just chocolate cake a-la-mode.

After waiting several minutes to get someones attention for a table, we were seated on the patio. Our drink order arrived rather late, and we had to ask for dinner menus. After some time, the waiter returned and we ordered calamari as an appetizer, the fish tacos and a burger for dinner. Again, the servers never checked back with our table. Someone else delivered the food to the table. The Calamari was fantastic, not too heavy or rubber. just perfect. The Fish tacos and burger were just a delicious and plated beautifully. The biggest complaint for the entire evening was the terrible service. I could have forgiven the lack of service if the restaurant was over crowded or not enough servers. This wasn’t the case, there weren’t many people on the patio, and there was a abundance of servers constantly walking past the tables. Suddenly the bad service wasn’t just being noted by me and my party. There was a group of women just a few tables away that complained about the service. and it was terrible to hear the manager not consider their complaints. Not that, this was bad enough, the servers gathered near our table to complain about the women who had asked for the manager. I had to ask them to please be quiet, as we were trying to listen to the Jazz singer on the patio, Kari Shaff. All and all… even though the landscape is beautiful, the food lovely… I wouldn’t EVER return to The Stables, or recommend it to anyone because of the terrible service.

We spent two days in Green Valley visiting friends who live at the Robson Quail Creek community. By the time we visited the Tubac Golf Resort, we were pretty ready for something different(no offense, Quail Creek, just not our kind of place.) We started with drinks at the bar – loved the saddle bar stools! We moved outside to the patio where I enjoyed my margarita, and it was nice watching the golfers. We requested and received a table for dinner at the windows overlooking the golf course. It was a beautiful view! Yes, the entrees were pricey, but we all loved our food. I ordered the wall-eyed pike, OMG, yum! The roasted potatoes were fabulous. Sure, it was probably all seeped in butter but it was worth it. My husband ordered the beef medallions, ate every bite, as did one of our dining companions. Service was just fine for us, although our server totally forgot about the two gentlemen sitting next to us, lucky for him they seemed very forgiving but if they reduced his tip it would have been justified. Our experience as a whole was great!
