This is our favorite restaurant on the Cape and we have one dinner there before we leave. The service and food is superb. Wished I had my camera as everything was presented beautifully . Hummus over olive oil is served along with a basket of fresh bread . We had pan sautéed sole with a light lemon cream sauce with purée of cauliflower that was excellent. The tuna bologonese with pasta was also excellent. We also had a Thai curry fish soup we enjoyed Dessert was a Chocolate tart on a pretzel crust to die for Everytime a utensil was used, a clean utensil was replaced by a server. Yes they are very attentive to their diners. Prices on the high side in my opinion but the food so tasty and local fresh produce is used, is worth the dining experience in my opinion.

We always try to pick a new place to us each time we come to the cape, last year it was ocean house in Dennis which was just killer from all aspects, already have a reservation in place one year out! We were so excited and expecting so much from black fish which has been at the top of the ratings. We made reservations for Memorial Day night figuring the crowds would be less. We were seated right away but even from the start faced some ageism, we are both just under 30 but love quality food which is why we choose to do here. We ordered drinks and said we were fine with tap water but wanted a lemon which took 15 minutes to arrive, the drinks made it first. One drink was a strawberry basil martini which was good not great, a sprig of fresh basil would have made a huge impact both presentation and flavor. The special soup was a wild mushroom dish that sounded great but missed the mark, adding truffle oil to not great soup is still not great soup. However, the scallop with parmesan fondue appetizer was absolutely amazing(should have ordered just 6 of those). We are both celiac. My wife ordered the poached lobster & fava bean dish and I ordered the clams/fish in spicy tomato sauce(aka cioppino or Bouillabaisse). The lobster came with potato gnocchi which we could not eat it not mentioned in the description or by the waiter, just unacceptable for a $ 40 plate. The spicy fish soup was just okay not great, the broth was bland which after the scallops dish and other reviews was shocking to find. Overall, the meal was mediocre and not worthy of the hype which was so unfortunate. Would not go back for an upscale/fine dining option, way too many others that are great on the cape to try and go back again too like The Mews in PTown or captain linnell house in Orleans.

We had a great meal last night the food was beautifully presented and fresh. My wife felt that one appetizer was not prepared as described on the menu. It tasted good to me and I ate the whole thing. Later the server asked about the meal and we told her about difference between the food and the menu description. Without any prompting the item was removed from the check and an apology was offered. I told her that was not needed especially since I happily devoured the dish. She said don’t worry about it. This kind of professionalism is hard to find. We have been eating here for years and will continue to do so for many more years to come.

The only restaurant in the center of Truro. Often crowded, it has good service, a nice interior(though some say it’s too dark) and good to very good Cape fare. I’m a fan. Here’s a tip: make a reservation and arrive early for on-site parking.

We went on the very last night of the year, when they were having a charity function and trying to use up everything they had in the kitchen. My cousin was the hostess so she recommended it. So, we didn’t order any specific dishes as they were doing a buffet. Everything they brought out was incredible! Duck confit with Brussels sprouts, calimari soup with lentils and angel hair pasta, back bacon in a broth with sausage and other meats, mushrooms and polenta and on and on it went. I can’t wait to go back next year on a normal night.

This restaurant has excellent food, great drinks, and wonderful service. The menu had something for everyone. I had the burger and it was cooked perfectly. There was a nice beer list as well as wine list. Because it is one of the few restaurants that is open later in the season, it was busy but still a very comfortable atmosphere. Our server guided us through the menu as well as the specials. He was on top of everything we needed or wanted. It was a great meal and we look forward to going back.

Blackfish had a cozy, warm, and romantic atmosphere. The frisée salad with the duck egg on top was delicious. It was light and tasted like fresh greens, truffle oil, and fresh eggs. The lamb rigatoni was very flavorful — it was meaty and had a strong cumin flavor. The tuna bolognese had the freshest tasting pasta I had ever had, however, there was a strong cinnamon taste that was very unexpected. It was shocking at first, but was very enjoyable once you are used to it. Finally, the braised short rib was very juicy and tender. The meal was very enjoyable and our server, Mike, was passionate about the menu and about serving the customers. The experience was very enjoyable and I would recommend it for intimate dinners and small group dinners.

Blackfish came recommended by several friends and it didn’t disappoint. We had a foie gras torchon appetizer with beach plum jelly, fried duck egg frisee salad. Both were great starters, torchon was cooked perfectly. We then ordered two pasta entrees, which was definitely too much for two people — order one to split. Both were delicious — merguez sausage pasta and wild mushroom pasta. Cooked al dente, with flavorful sauces. Service was great and parking was plentiful.

The one place my friend and I were determined to dine at during our recent vacation was Blackfish. Upon our arrival we were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us immediately. Our waiter was attentive and informative about the dishes, and the rest of the staff was just as attentive and hospitable. We started with a strawberry basil martini and an elderberry gin martini. DELICIOUS. I’m not a big fan of vodka, but my drink was insanely good with the perfect hint of basil. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the vodka taste was blended in. Given that this was our first time at Blackfish, we decided to go all out on the appetizers: oysters with a Caribbean mignonette, a tomato & burrata platter, bone marrow, and mussels. Every single dish was a completely different and mouth watering experience. The oysters were completely transformed with such a unique and delicious mignonette. The tomatoes were plump and juicy, and were complimented with the creamy burrata. The bone marrow was served with toast points and was completely devoured the moment it arrived — cooked and seasoned to perfection. The mussels were the star of the show as they were bathed in a creamy sauce with bits of sausage throughout. We could not get enough. For our entrees(yes, we went crazy with no regrets), we ordered the lamb sausage with rigatoni and fresh Pecorino Romano and the lobster with gnocchi. The lamb dish was extremely unique with a Middle Eastern spice to it. The lobster melted in your mouth and the gnocchi soaked up all the taste of lobster and butter. Out of this world. I absolutely cannot wait for my next visit to MA just to experience the magic all over again.

Blackfish, No. Truro, the Upper Cape: A Perfectly Executed Evening of French and American Seasonal Cuisine After an absence of some five years, we have just finished a lovely-though-very-warm full-sun Mid-Sept.week on the backbone of the Old Cape Cod, the lower and upper reaches of Rt.6A, from Sandwich to No.Truro. During our stay, we had four«fine dining» dinners at: Inayo(Yarmouthport), Ceraldi(Wellfleet), Abba(Orleans) and Blackfish(No. Truro.) By far the star of the week was Blackfish.(The others I have posted separately, elsewhere on this site.) BF is located in a small 18th c. clapboard Cape near the tiny local P.O. Both the bar and the two dining rooms are hot spots for a very diverse crowd of locals, dressed casually but with flair and artistic style. The main dining room is dark and low lit, very romantic and charming, filled with 40 – 60 yr. olds, many 4-tops and trios. Everyone seemed to be comfortably settled in and enjoying themselves immensely. A flowering garden area is visible out the rear large windows, and attractive original sea-themed artwork is lit on the dark walls. Table bread is a warm house-made roasted garlic, delivered with a lagnappe of white bean purée and EVOO. Bantam cider and a Cosmo with a very flavorful cucumber infused vodka– were our refreshing beverages on a hot Indian Summer Thursday evening. I began with a perfectly created generous disc of Foie Gras Torchon, redolent of its brandy maceration and served with a punchy local berry compote. My idea of Absolute Heaven. My Love also had his Nirvana, a striking plate of seared local sea scallops on a Parmesan Fonduta with mini Parmesan Tuiles. We both succumbed to the fully authentic description of the(Southern French) Bouillabaisse, and our deftly skilled waiter never missed a step, delivering our steaming bowls along with our requested extra broth and rouille. Truly a plentiful bounty of the loveliest of lovingly a la minute– added shellfish, squid and haddock.(It really is not an exaggeration when I say that the squid was the softest and silkiest I have ever had. Man, how I wish I could send every chef to the Blackfish kitchen to learn how to handle squid.) My Love finished his bowl with great gusto; I reserved half of mine for later because my advance research had shown me that their desserts were actually well worth ordering.(Boring, unimaginative desserts are found far too frequently in fine dining restaurants, imo.) The Corn themed sweets plate was a ‘Corn Pudding’(kind of like a light sugared Indian cornmeal Bavarian timbale) with Maple Candied Pecans and Corn Ice Cream. A perfect ending. There were people waiting for our table so we rushed out, but next visit, we hope to meet the talented chef and have a few meals here(Certainly no need to sample elsewhere in the area, with this well balanced and varied menu and the perfect execution we so enjoyed!) All of the staff, from Hostesses to wait people and ‘bread and bussers’- were welcoming and deftly efficient and professional. What a night to remember a special trip! * Blackfish has no website; I found a sample menu and beautiful photos here, and they also post on Facebook:

Restaurants in Truro are few, so after a loooooong exhausting day sunbathing at the beach(lol) we don’t like to go too far. Seems like a lot of people feel the same way because the place was packed(and also there for the good food). This is a cute little place with cuisine and décor that is a mix of a couple restaurants I frequent in Greenwich, CT. A very«farm to table» feel, I quite enjoyed the meal I had. I wasn’t starving so I just ordered a salad, but it was perfect! Locally grown tomatoes with burata, a nice vinaigrette type dressing… exactly what I wanted! My parents rave about the burgers and you can customize them with all sorts of toppings. The burgers come with homemade chips that are amazing! Hence, that’s what they ordered this trip with me.(They’ll probably become regulars as they stay up on the Cape through September. Drinks were great, they have a wonderful wine list that is quite extensive and the mixed drinks were nicely done and generous. Service isn’t speedy by any means – but hey, we’re all supposed to be relaxed and in vacation mode, so we were okay with that and were able to enjoy our evening. I love seeing restaurants support the local businesses and farmers, so kudos to them! I’ll definitely be back.

Every dish our party if three had was interesting and well-prepared. Vegetarian and gluten free options available. Great space — almost underground looking out through many windows at lush greenery. I’d definitely go back and I don’t do that often.

Our dinner was delicious! Starting from a really good service and a romantic atmosphere, followed by a great dinner and a dessert that blasts you away. The beet platter was our least favorite. It was ok, but nothing i would choose again. All in one a great experience!

Wanted to like this place, but was disappointed from the get go. Our reservation time got messed up because they were using a new res system. The hostess was rude and acted as though the mistake was ours. She was rude and made little effort to accommodate us. My companion’s pork was served rare. My chicken was blood red at the joint. If you go, stick with items that are not cooked to order. Service staff was very good.

Great dinner here last night. The décor, service, and experience were all consistent and excellent. Rib eye and lobster gnocchi were fantastic. Desserts, top notch. Make a point to find this spot when you’re in or near Truro. Loved it.

Had the privilege of dining at Blackfish last night. Best meal I’ve had on the Cape by a country mile. In fact the cuisine, service and overall execution can hold it’s own against any 5 star restaurant in the country. We will certainly be coming back often with a smile on our faces.

This restaurant is excellent. The food is unique and delicious, the service impeccable, and the ambience romantic and cozy! It’s definitely not cheap but the cuisine and cocktails are top-notch. I was really impressed and so are the masses, apparently, judging by the busyness at 9pm(the only available reservation time). This little gem in Truro is worth the wait and price whether you’re looking for drinks, apps, or a five course meal!
