Small, interesting & if you like history, a must see! I’m not sure why, but I just can’t pass up an old jail, lol! This jail is now a free museum. They do accept donations, but they don’t push it. The ladies who work there where not only incredibly nice, they were also VERY knowledgeable & offered everyone who walked in a guided tour which included not only historical facts, but also great stories :) This place is tiny & you can tour both the 1st and 2nd floors in 20 minutes & that includes with photo ops, so why not stop?

Property of the Illuminati. I’m not a fan of defacing public property, but this message painted on the remains of a Masonic temple did make me chuckle. The Old Jail Museum is located one block off Commercial Row at Jiboom Street and Spring Street. It is a FREE museum that is open during the summer from 11am to 4pm, Saturday & Sunday. It is also open during Truckee Thursdays, when it was well staffed with volunteers eager to tell you about Truckee’s history. It isn’t limited to the history of the jail, but houses a collection of antiques and everyday objects from the good olé days. The Masonic arch is outside behind the museum. The rest of the building burned to the ground. Mysterious. This is worth a short visit when you are in the area, especially since it is free, but not worth a special visit.
