The Pour House is a nice little surprise on a back street in Truckee. They have a wide variety of wines, for every budget. And the $ 10.00 section always yields some nice surprises. The owners are knowledgeable without being pretentious. Tastings are fun and interesting. And the cheese and olive selection is great!(I am particular fond of dry-cured olives… and it is nice to be able to get them in town. In the summer, it is nice to sit out on the(tiny) porch and sip wine, with cheese and crackers. and a friend. Don’t let the size of the shop fool you. They have a huge selection to choose from!

ATTENTION visitors, skiers and if you love wine… Stop in this gem which many locals shop at and pick up a consumer friendly priced bottle or a glass and chat it up with the owner or well versed staff. There is the $ 10 bottle section to the 20 – 30 selection and more. Oh, try the Double Bond, Pinot(full body) or their blend The Other Side. some fruit but also full body. If you park on the main street even near the train depot, the walk is one block next to the post office.

Upon entering this wonderful old structure for some raclette cheese, we were abruptly ushered to «in the cheese case of course» room and we were helped to find what we were searching for. We then asked for Lodi appellation wines of which there were none. Asking if he knew that Wine Enthusiast had voted Lodi #1 wine growing region in the world the«clerk» scoffed and put his nose in the air and mentioned Napa/Sonoma. Yes, we all know that region but what a reaction from a wine retailer. Be educated and learn from your customers, too. We are anxious for a wine shop to succeed but we won’t set foot inside The Pour House again, unless we cannot find a specialty cheese!

This is a fantastic little hidden gem in downtown Truckee. I think he said he had 500 different wines in this tiny hut of a place. I have walked past this many times and had no idea how much I was missing. Great wine/beer/cheese selection. And tastings as well. Tasting was pricey but he gave good pours and the owner was right there sharing about the wine and such. He was very knowledgable. Definitely worth a stop in if your in the area.

The Pour House is a hidden gem in Truckee. It’s off the main street but close enough to walk to for an after dinner glass of wine. Dean is a great guy to talk to and is very knowledgeable about the wines that he pours. I highly recommend this place.

I was appalled today after witnessing an incident involving someone parking in front of this establishment … There was a male(who I believe was either the owner or an employee) that was yelling obscenities to a person who parked in front of the Pour House. I saw that this person had a delivery and was only there 5 minutes or so. I will NEVER patronize this establishment ever again nor will any of my friends in Martis Camp. I am disgusted with this place

This is a fun little hole in the wall. Off the beaten path and so fun. The Pour House has a great selection of wine and wonderfully priced tastings. You will also enjoy the fine cheese selection. The owner’s name is Dean and if you ask questions he is more than willing to answer them and provide some information about the region you are sampling from. If you are on the main strip of Truckee venture one street off and find a creative, clever spot to fill the senses!

What a great place. The owner was beyond helpful and knowledgeable, talking to us for over an hour about wine while we tasted a few that he had out. He even brought out toys for the kids to play with and didn’t mind them walking around at all. Great and varied selection of wine. Interesting cheese and snacky gourmet items, too(if your tasting goes long, like ours!) Amazing prices — $ 1 – 3 per taste and affordable bottles. A great way to spend some time while walking through downtown Truckee.

Off the main drag there’s a few local spots that we’ve come to know and love. This is one of the hidden(I refuse to say the g-word that normally ensues hidden) houses turned stores in Truckee. As you walk in, your senses will be overwhelmed. Chatter from the very intimate bar, wine bottles stacked from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, a room overflowing with cheese and a small fridge dedicated to craft beer, and every nook and cranny is jammed with chocolates, crackers, and wine paraphernalia. Depending on the season, you’ll find yourself surrounded by many wine enthusiasts or if it’s the shoulder season, you may have the whole place to yourself. Tastes are a modest $ 1 – 2 bucks and worth every sip. To be honest, I almost didn’t write this review, just so we could continue to hoard this shop to ourselves. But the last time we went, I picked up a bottle of red, 4-pack of Italian fizzy moscato(we didn’t think twice about that; it’s as good as we imagined) and a sixer of an Icelandic Pale Ale(when’s the last time you had a brew from Iceland?) and I decided it would be a disservice to not share with my Unilocal community. To be honest, who reads my reviews anyway? Let alone takes them seriously? Cheers! And enjoy my attempt at a wine glass emoticon! ())=|

Came in and bought three bottles of wine. One of which was what they were pouring for a tasting which was very good. We then bought one which the guy recommended. We enjoyed that bottle as well. They have a wide unusual selection and decent prices. My complaint would be that the dude helping us seemed very uninterested in helping us. We were asking him questions during the tasting and he seemed annoyed that we were even there. He definitely didn’t show off any of his wine knowledge. If I come back it definitely won’t be for a tasting. I’ll just come right in and out since we seemed like we were a bother to him…

Fun little wine bar, nice selection of cheeses, relaxed hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. Good place to chill w/o a big crowd.

Excellent selection of wine in a very small space. I was able to find Monastrell and Amarone that were inexpensive. They also have quite a selection of cheeses, salumi, and crackers. They offer a selection of wine by the glass and even have a small area outside to sit and relax.

For such a small hidden, off beat space, they carry a lot of interesting things. From chatting with a guy that works there, it seems they rotate the inventory a lot too. The selection is all over the place. My eye caught a Meursault bottle that had already unfortunately been consumed but they also had a good amount of Sauternes which is never a bad thing.

I have a pretty specific palate for wine, and i’m not really an expert on the proper vernacular, grape names, regions, etc etc. more often than not it leads to confusion or frustration and occasionally brings out an oenophiles inner asshole when i ask for a hollow dirty red with some brett. even from the saints at K&L. Not the case here — the guy who helped me was super patient, listened to what I wanted and translated it into something legible. I left with three very reasonably priced bottles(at $ 18 they were only a buck or two more than they cost online) and some really great cheese and meat.

Yup… sorry, but nope. Maybe I just wasn’t cool enough or ‘local enough’ for the owner… but. I think I am cool enough, I think I know Napa, Sonoma, Foothill, Coastal, Central Coast, World Wines pretty darn OK… so, what didn’t he love about me not to at least say ‘hey thanks for stopping into my little shack and being willing to bring your purse and possibly buy some of my super high priced swill that comes from a little hot house that reminds me of a whore house instead of a Poor House.” I just didn’t get it. We didn’t connect… sorry Tahoe. I hear the guy is connected. Maybe I am just not connected to that part of Tahoe. But, I am connected to wine enough to know I’ll stick to my own cellar or go to Uncorked in Squaw.

This is hands down my favorite place to get and educate myself about wine. Dean and Krista are knowledgeable, friendly and smart. Their wall of Under $ 10 Wines always has great surprises. Never had a bad bottle from the Pour House. When I need a special occasion wine, they steer my uneducated palate toward the right wine with my silly descriptions of what I like a wine to taste like. The setting is a great little rustic building, with a few places to sit for tastings. And, they carry great cheese too. They also let CSA’s drop off their goods there for people to pick up. And, they are highly involved in the community. Support the Pour House. You won’t regret it. Well… you can’t blame your hangover on them… that’s your fault for drinking too much amazing wine.

If you are ever hopping through Truckee — as a local or simply traveling-thru, try to include POURHOUSE after/before a bite to eat or amidst your shopping schedule. Yes, this shop is small and can be ‘crampt’ if there are many others there when you visit. Don’t let that stop you. Be patient and appreciate the ‘library’ that Dean maintains… plenty to choose from(CA, Oregon and some Washintonian varietals) as well as a small selection of Euro imports. You can enjoy his daily tastings — just plan to devote sufficient time to appreciate the various flights that Dean offers. Prices are as any retailer would likely offer. POURHOUSE is another example of the community’s truly mountain-boutique character. You likely won’t find many of the wines here at any other retailer — within miles.

This place is run by Krista and Dean and they know their wines! Ask Dean anything about wine and he will give you the answers. They are lots of fun to talk to, and they have one of the best wine selections outside San Francisco. This shop is on a back street and may be a little hard to find but when you find it you will be glad you made the effort!
