This place is exactly what it should be; extremely fresh fish prepared by extremely capable hands. When you taste the food(even the simple cole slaw) you know there’s something special going on in the kitchen. Turns out that the chef is a CIA graduate. Yep, that’s what your tasting: knowledge, talent and experience. Thanks for being there guys. Your place is perfect.

Lobster roll is delicious even though it’s on the small side. And I’m not a lobster guy.

Had sauteed halibut over green salad. The halibut was cooked perfectly! Asian sauce was on the salty side. The outdoor seating is very cute but sometimes I can the smell of spray paint from the next door…

We are so glad we found this little gem on our way through Truckee! We enjoyed the clam chowder and lobster bisque along with a salad and some fried clams! Delish… and has an East Coast feel! Will come back on our way through! It was a little on the pricey side… that’s our only negative.

A gem in Truckee. This place offers an amazing alternative to standard mountain food options.

I first heard of Morgan’s Lobster Shack on Facebook from the Unilocal Reno page. I knew we were heading to Truckee for a project in the near future so I bookmarked this little gem. Morgan’s is a small seafood market and bistro(I was trying to think of what exactly they are since they are not a restaurant, but they are more than a deli). They have counter seating and tables in the back for outdoor seating when the weather is nice so it’s definitely casual. We went in at lunch time and the place was absolutely packed! We were lucky to score the one corner table inside after we ordered our lunch. For the two of us we shared the double lobster roll and the seasonal crab cakes. With two sodas, our total was right around $ 55 which is a very pricey lunch, but it is fresh lobster so I tried to keep that in mind before my jaw hit the floor. Considering how busy they were, the wait wasn’t very long before we received our sandwiches and crab cakes. The crab cakes came with this wonderful lemon aioli which we will get an extra side of next time for the lobster rolls. The cakes were filled to the brim with shredded crab and very tasty. The lobster rolls came with chips and coleslaw as the basic sides, which we will change up next time. The chips were just too salty and the coleslaw was a little bland for us. Ok, so how were the lobster rolls? Everything I had hoped for. They piled as much lobster into these things as possible, including a bunch of claw meat. They didn’t add a ton of seasoning to the lobster, which, if the lobster is good, it doesn’t need it. But the bread was a little dry so you just need to add a bit of that lemon aioli from the crab cakes and you are good to go! The market portion is small, but the fish that they had looked amazing and the pricing was very comparable to what you’d find in a bigger city that is easier to get fresh fish to. Overall we really enjoyed our lunch, but for the hefty price tag it is definitely a splurge for us. So we will be back, just not as often as I would like.

So good we had dinner two nights in a row! Last night was Lobster Roll & a Halibut Wrap… Tonight crab cakes, salmon burger & another halibut wrap. So fresh and tasty… Fish isn’t covered with a ton of sauce that drowns out the taste of the fish. Coleslaw is another notable item it’s a great accompaniment to the fish. For dessert we topped it off with a delicious blueberry bread pudding, unbelievable! Don’t miss this place!

With the high number of higher net worth residents and tourists in Truckee, there’s sure to be lots of luxurious food, drink, shopping, and accommodations, so I wasn’t surprised to find fresh Maine Lobster being served here, high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. What I didn’t expect to find was this beautiful lobster tucked inside a perfectly browned split top hot dog bun in the classic New England Lobster Roll fashion! That’s a treat typically reserved for East Coasters, but the owners of Morgan’s Lobster Shack are bringing it, in all its classic glory, to us here in the Reno-Tahoe area! What a treat! After some time shopping on the main drag in downtown Truckee, we’d all worked up an appetite. It was too late for lunch, yet too early for dinner, and«something light» sounded so right! Knowing this place was nearby(according to Unilocal), we crossed the train tracks and made our way to the tiny storefront of this seafood market and restaurant. It’s important to note that Morgan’s flies in their seafood on an almost daily basis from the East Coast, insuring freshness and a top quality product. They use a lot of what they bring in for the restaurant side of the operation, which serves lobster rolls, lobster rubens, as well as grilled, broiled, blackened, fried, and sauteed seafood which customers choose from the fresh catch of the day. In addition to the small, but solid standard menu, they also offer daily specials as well, such as cioppino. Our group settled on the classic lobster roll served with chips and coleslaw, a blackened haddock basket served with coleslaw and fries, and a couple of orders of fried Ipswich clams. The lobster roll was the hit of the party, with a healthy portion of lobster tail and claw meat in a very light coating of mayo and seasoning. The chips are a high quality kettle cooked potato chip(not made in house) and the slaw is vinegar based, which is a real nice contrast to the slightly creamy and sweet lobster meat. For $ 17 bucks, some might not think there’s a whole lot of value, but those folks should remember their eating Maine lobster, which ain’t cheap, especially in the mountains of the West Coast! It is worth noting that this is a light meal, so if you’re hungry, this may not be the best option. The crew reported that the fried clams, while tasty and fried well, had some grit and sand in them that made it a bit unpleasant to eat. Also if you like your fries really crispy, order them extra well done. Ours went back and were refried to get them the way we really enjoy them. If you’re after some fresh seafood, the market part of Morgan’s is small, as in one case small, but has a good selection and represents what’s best from their supplier who sends them product on an almost daily basis, so count on some high quality goods. I’m really looking forward to Morgan’s arrival in Reno. It will be a very welcome addition to our dining scene and will be a place I continue to visit in future trips to Truckee.

I still can’t believe how good our meal was here! I came across Morgan’s through a quick lunch search on Unilocal and I knew I had to have a lobster roll. We wandered down the road from downtown and I ordered a lobster roll while my boyfriend ordered a shrimp sandwich. Both were fresh and delicious, and I was surprised at how good a «shrimp sandwich» actually was. Also, you can’t go wrong with the typical butter-y lobster roll bread and a side of onion rings. The shop itself is quaint and cute, with plenty of bar seating and a large restroom at the back. They call your name and serve your food to you, basket-style. You can also order fish to-go which I would have liked to try if we were staying in the area. Definitely a must for your seafood and lobster roll cravings!

If there were more than 5 stars, Mogan’s would have it. Wow! What a delightful surprise on our way out of town from Tahoe. Truckee is an adorable little town with plenty of character and when I checked Unilocal, many of the restaurants had high ratings. We chose Morgan’s because of the uniqueness of being the only seafood specialty restaurant. The staff were very personable, knowledgeable and passionate about the menu and what they had to offer. I am a New Orleans native by birth and chose their oyster Po-boy with pickled onion, Cajun remoulade, slaw on grilled bread with garlic butter. Oooohhhhh weeee! As we say in Cajun Country! Delish! We also had the salmon burger, and surf and turf sandwich with pork belly and lobster claws. They also have a large selection of great beers t wash it all down. I highly suggest Morgan’s.

Can’t wait for my next visit! So many great things on the menu. Fish and chips for me and clam chowder/Louie for hubby next time. Be sure and try the Bundaberg root beer, to die for! And the dill pickle, yum!

We were naturally suspicious of this place. After all, it’s not by the ocean OR by the airport. We ordered fish and chips, a lobster roll and a po’ boy sandwich. Everything thing was first rate.(Well, OK, full disclosure, the slaw is only a ‘B’). We’ll be back tomorrow!

The seafood here is so fresh, and I’m from the coast, so ought to know. Not a common thing when you start going this far inland(I realize it isn’t that far, but still, you are up in the mountains). The fish market has top quality animal parts to take home and cook, or you can just have them whip something up for you right there. I got the poboy and was not disappointed. It was the real deal, cooked perfectly, and their remoulade was even better than traditional. I think it had some thyme in it or something. Go here. Get some food. You will be happy. We got some crab meat from the fish market area to snack on while waiting for our meal, and they gave us some sauce to go with it. Very friendly people there.

Classic Hole in the wall joint… and oh so absolutely delicious. Stopped here with 3 Hangry people on our way back home from reno and was not disappointed. First impression driving up was the location. Not much parking and if you do get lucky enough to get a spot close to the door have quarters in handy because there is a meter youll have to feed. Walking in the seating was bar style and cozy. Not a great location for groups but if youre staying around id order to-go for sure! The owners were chill! Answered many question of ours about their lobster and stood by their food. We ate there and although seating was tight i was comfortable. They have little buckets scattered around where they keep napkins, menus, and plastic utensils. The food. I ordered the lobster grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough sliced bread. Came with fires and coleslaw. Absolutely delicious. Huge meaty pieces of lobster in literally every bite to the last. The coleslaw had a fresh dill pickle taste that is different but compliments the sandwich well. For my drink i got water(self-serve) from a little fountain area. All together my food was about $ 12 My uncle ordered the salmon burger.(Picture attached) which he said was delicious as well so much so that he finished every last bite. He said the Aeoli sauce on the burger was a tasty touch to his burger which also came with cole slaw and fries… All in all if youre traveling in the area i highly recommend coming here to eat. Nothing on the menu will disappoint you and youll be dreaming about it for weeks after.

So we were going back home on Super Bowl 50, Sunday from Reno, Nevada after a weekend at Grand Sierra Resort. Unfortunately we didn’t have the greatest foodie experience this time around so what did we do … #google it to find us some food before heading back to the bay area. This place kept popping up and although I’m usually pretty iffy about seafood places in general. their menu and reviews sparked some interest. So we decided to head to Truckee for this diamond in the ruff. On the way there we used Scout navigation.. yeah it’s not the run down building on the corner of the forever 4 way intersection stoplight. Go down a couple more miles … well like one more mile. you will not be disappointed. Location Situated in a strip of businesses. small little quaint spot. You have to pay for parking.. on the main(cc or coins no dolla bills) There are other shops nearby and a parking lot across the street. If you messed up and parked ratchet hope you gave someone in the backseat to tell you it’s clear before reversing bc some of those cars fly by. #yikes And it would def be your fault. When you pay for your spot(no assigned #s or anything) a ticket prints. place that on your dashboard. da Spot Coozy spot. clean and well decorated. Bar style seating. but not great for large parties(I had 4). Chalkboard menus. easy to read + they had printed menus tucked in with the utensils and napkins. throughout the tables. Staff was awesome. very attentive and knowledgeable.. authentic east coast style he says. we believed him! da Grub the Classic Lobster Roll. He definitely suggests to get the double order. well because it just wasn’t enough! He said it was extremely good. Served with cold lobster, paprika on a «hot dog» style roll and I thought it would be because he wasn’t talking to me too much after his plate came. It came with potato chips and a side of coleslaw. Coleslaw tastes of wine vinegar and dill. their version was quire refreshing and not heavy at all. Complimented the lobster. Lobster Grilled Cheese Sammy OMG this sammy was nestled between two perfectly toasted sourdough bread slices, fried with butter for that crispy outside and soft inside(I miss it already). Lobster in every bite of the ooey gooey melted cheese in between the slices of bread. Mines also came with coleslaw and french fries. French fried were super fresh and fried perfectly. Pictures present. Look for my daughter’s review on the Lobster Grilled Cheese and my brother’s Salmon Burger which looked totally yummy!!!(Did I just say totally?)

Very fresh seafood that does not disappoint! A small spot so best if you order to-go because seating is limited. They also serve beer and wine which is nice(if you dine in) I tried the lobster grilled cheese and it was delicious! The cheese and lobster were a perfect combo. The fresh cut fries were really good too. I also tried the fish n chips which was also a thumbs up! A very cool little spot in Truckee to check out if you love seafood like me. :)

Wow! This little spot is amazingly delicious. We spotted this place on our way out of Truckee, but had to venture back to Truckee to give it a try. I was surprised to see how many fresh fish options they had when we arrived. For starters they have several fish and seafood options and from there you can choose preparation type(grilled, fried, etc.) and seasoning. If I hadn’t been craving a lobster roll it would have been a tough choice. The shop itself is tiny, but they have outdoor seating that is very quaint. We enjoyed the outdoor seating since it was a nice summer evening. I had the Classic Lobster Roll. The bread was so buttery and delicious with generous amounts of lobster loaded into the bun. The classic comes with just a little mayo which was perfect since the lobster was great on its own. I loved the coleslaw which was a lighter twist on the usual. The chips were okay, but the fries were really good. My husband had the Fried Ipswich Roll which he was crazy about. He enjoys offerings that are different than the usual. He said it tasted great as well. The fries served along side were very tasty. I wish I had asked for fries instead of chips.

Love lobster and have been dying to check it out. Maybe the timing was not the best when we stopped in. On our way home after being in Alaska for two weeks with tons of fresh seafood. It’s a cozy spot with no tables, just a side bar with high stools to sit at and that’s ok. It was very warm in there, not sure if the air may have been broken. It’s a cool menu– pick your fish, how it’s cooked, the seasonings and how its served, bun, wrap or salad. And that’s probably what I should have gone with. But I love lobster. So we got the double rolls for $ 33. Fair in size and a lot of claw meat. It hadn’t been drowned in sauce, but maybe needed just a little more moisture. The grilled bun was nice and toasty and had great flavor. Huge pile of chips. And a small cup of cole slaw that neither of us was fond us, too vinegary and sour. All in all tough decision– it seemed pricey but it was lobster. There was just no wow for us. In the future will try a make my own sandwich with one of their fresh fishes. The place is quite clean and service was excellent.

I have to say this place came highly recommended by a fellow Unilocaler, those always turn out to be the best places to try because someone took their time and yours to tell you about this incredible food they had. This place had a high bar to reach before I even stepped foot in the door. I am incredibly pleased to report that the staff and the food surpassed all of those expectations! I am all about fresh seafood and wonderful service! My choice on the menu was a given– the lobster mac and cheese! It was delightfully creamy and delicious. There were big and plentiful pieces of lobster swimming in this thick, rich, and wonderful mac and cheese. As usual, the portion size was more than enough for me. If I could have made my stomach bigger just to eat more of this, I absolutely would! I think I managed to get thru maybe half of it! My wife and I shared the crab cakes as an appetizer. They were big enough to have as a meal if you were wanting a smaller portion size but still a filling dish. It was packed full of crab with very little binder, YUM! The water is self serve which is nice but they could have used a station outside to refill your water if you sit on the back patio. There were a handful of picnic tables outside and most of it was either in the shade or had umbrellas. I am always seeking shade when I want to sit outside and there was plenty of it here. Last but certainly not least, was the fantastic staff here. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I felt like I had been transported to the south because these guys had southern hospitality in spades. Hooray! They were genuinely out to give us the best possible experience and they certainly succeeded. When wonderful staff and wonderful food combine you get a restaurant worthy of many return visits. I will definitely be back again soon and I’ll be sure to tell all my friends about this place too!
