Hands down my new favorite spot in Troy! I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was spectacular! The waffle was light and flavorful. The fried chicken was fried to perfection. The mac balls were very good, although to be fair I’d never ordered Mac balls at a restaurant before. The service was great, very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is cool and laid back. If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate to stop in!

This place has the BEST fried chicken. It’s delicious. The sides are average but it’s called the flying chicken. Not the flying side dishes.

I was a little disappointed in the Flying Chicken. I had the«Standard» which is a chicken breast, grilled or fried, with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. I had mine fried with mashed potatoes. The sandwich and the mashed potatoes could have used a little more flavor. On the plus side, the chicken was not greasy. It tasted like a quality piece of chicken. The mashed potatoes were light and fluffy. The server was very nice and brought my food over to the table. Since I have heard many good things about this restaurant, I would give it another chance.

The chicken is near perfect– crispy fried breaded skin and the fries got a perfection rating from my companion. He gave the biscuits a 3 of 5 stars. I have to say the collard greens & string beans were spicier than I expected, so unfortunately I couldn’t finish them. I’d love to try the chicken and waffles or the maple & chicken sandwich. The place is cute but unfortunately the service was quite slow, everything prepared individually, so be wise if you’re in a hurry!

I can’t say enough good things about the Flying Chicken, the chef is generally there and happy to tell you about the delicious things she is making. The chicken is always incredibly fresh and probably the best you can get in the capital area! I have tried a few things on the menu, and even have a few friends brave enough to try the feast. My go to here is usually the grilled chicken sandwiches with their homemade sauces either bbq or buffalo have become my favorites. The buffalo they have a sandwich on the menu for with blue cheese crumbles, definitely a nice touch. The sides are also great from the fries to mac and cheese balls or mashed balls(fried balls of mac or mashed potatoes!)

So glad that I got my fried chicken fix at The Flying Chicken! Order up front and take a number back to your seat and the food is made to order so it takes some time, but it will get delivered to the table. I have rarely had such moist and tender white chicken meat and I am usually a fan of bone-in chicken, not boneless. I decided to have the chicken nuggets order of 10pcs($ 10) and it came with a biscuit and a side. I am not sure why I love collard greens but they did not have any the day I visited so I chose mashed potatoes and gravy instead. My dining companions ordered the chicken nuggets with mac n cheese and the fried cow entrée. The nuggets were so, so, good! The crispness of the batter and the meatiness of the chicken was heavenly. We were able to choose from a variety of dipping sauces as well… honey mustard and ranch were our picks. Next time, I’d try the hot sauce! The fried cow was also very delicious… and filling to say the least! The sausage gravy poured over the fried cow was creamy and flavorful. The sides were okay, but I expected more flavor in the mac n cheese as I found it slightly bland but fortunately not dry. With the casual food court style seating, it makes the atmosphere very laid back. I like how that is as I enjoy my fried chicken meal! It was a hot and humid day though and the AC seemed weak but nonetheless I’ll be returning to try more of The Flying Chicken’s menu items.

Did take out for the first time. The food quality doesn’t taste like it does when you dine in. Got the waffles and chicken special and the biscuits and gravy side. The chicken was drier than the last time I ate it and I would’ve liked more spice on the chicken to mix with the sweet syrupy flavor. there’s nothing amazing about the biscuits and gravy … I wouldn’t get it again after this time. It was good but not amazing. It does taste home cooked.

Amazingly delicious fried chicken. I have never had better. Freshly fried to order.(You can call ahead and ask them to start the frying ahead!) Clean, bright, friendly courteous counter staff. Order at the counter, play some pinball, sit and eat. Yum!

Funky setup. Chicken and waffles were good but not great. Service was a little slow, but they got it done. It is a clear your own plate kind of joint. Would eat there agin, but I have had better.

Walk in to Heat Wave playing and great Motown Hits playlist continued. The cashier/server was polite. The mix your own sweet iced tea and lemonade is bomb. Got biscuits and gravy that were so delicious plus chicken and waffles.

How to do the Chicken and Waffles. Order Chicken and Waffles. Bring a book or something along because there can be a wait(worth the time) When it arrives, taste the chicken, but devote your time to the waffle. If you still have room for your chicken when you finish, you’re a better man than I am — but otherwise have the chicken wrapped to take home — it is great cold or reheated.

Deliciously Sinful! From the waffle to the wing the Flying Chicken delivers. Casual environment and fresh food and tunes. The waffle was cooked to perfection with crispy edges. The breast was lightly dusted in flour before flash fried. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier.

I have truly found paradise here. Its name is maple sausage gravy. I want to plumb my house with nothing but this. I would bathe in this daily and wash my clothes in it. I would sell my car if they sold me a maple sausage gravymobile. The chicken is crunchy but moist, the waffle is fluffy, the mac n cheese is beyond reproach, and sweet tea is on tap. I’ve been waiting to try this for a year and a half and I was right the whole time. Now considering making«please deposit maple sausage gravy» my epitaph. I didn’t have time to take a photo because I polished my plate in about 40 seconds.

I’ve now been to The Flying Chicken around 5 times whether it be by myself, with others or take out. I would recommend eating inside the restaurant and not take out. Everyone I take here has nothing but good things to say about their food and environment. From my experience each visit took around 10 – 15 minutes to receive my food. The staff was always willing to ask if anyone needed anything and one time the cook came out and asked how my food was. During my 5 visits I ordered items such as bacon cheeseburgers, french fries, boneless breast, nuggets, biscuits, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese and lemonade/ice tea. I was happy with each item and would order each again. I believe everything except their french fries are made from scratch, but the french fries are still awesome.

Well, it ain’t the«real deal» but it’ll do in a pinch. I’ve eaten there several times and the cook to order place is convenient. It bills itself as «Southern American» has a big reputation to uphold. Being a child of a Georgian and a North Carolinian I believe I’m qualified to judge as I grew up on the real deal. Friend Chicken… decent but sometimes a tad on the greasy side. Cornbread… Terrible, my grandmother wouldn’t feed that trash to the hogs. Greens… Not the worst I’ve tasted… but poor seasonings… At least no vinegar or sugar. Slaw… meh… Mashed Potato’s… Might’ve been tasty but mine were cold. Biscuits… Better than their cornbread but not by much. Not my Mother’s or my Grandma’s soul food… but neither are alive to make for me anymore and I don’t have my own restaurant to compete so… if you’re in Troy and want something approximating what we used to make and eat… The Flying Chicken is for you. Some legit fried chicken– crispy, juicy, tender all at once. A bit on the salty side though. Ordered pickup 20 minutes in advance(they make it fresh) and it was ready to go when I walked in the door. Sides of mac n cheese and coleslaw also good — not too cheesy and the coleslaw was not dripping with mayo. Definitely a place to go back to if craving fried chicken.

Fantastic fried chicken and biscuits here. It took about 15 – 20 minutes for our food to arrive. Tough when you’re starving, but man it was worth the wait. It was hot, crispy and the breading was wonderfully seasoned, just like eating country style in the south. The sides we chose were the mac n cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy. Both sides stand out on their own. I know this because I ate them as tasty left overs a day later. But at the restaurant the chicken totally outshined them. They’re neat, modest sides. And by that I mean the potatoes weren’t drowning in gravy and the mac n cheese wasn’t dripping in fat. But I like them this way. It’s comfortable and they taste homemade, not overdone. I’m definitely a fan, will be returning when the southern cravings come knocking.

I have been to this restaurant twice, and the first time was not memorable, but I remember enjoying the food. The second time around, I ordered a chicken sandwich(grilled, with lettuce, tomato, mayo), and mac&cheese. The chicken sandwich was fine, I am sure I would have enjoyed it fried. The mac&cheese was excellent. Lots of flavor, lots of deliciousness abound. But, the bite of food that allows me 4 stars, was the bite of my friend’s chicken and waffles with sausage gravy — even though I didn’t get to eat a whole portion, this was delightful and amazing. The waffle was perfectly fluffy, and the fried chicken was perfectly brined, breaded, and fried. The sausage gravy, and local-maple syrup one top, made the whole dish. I would go back, and I would order this. And then I would come back here and give it 5 stars. The location of this shop in downtown Troy is accessible, I would recommend walking because the downtown of Troy is fantastic and steeped in history. The ambiance was similar to a fast-food shop, but they had a water jug for free, and a pinball machine! Can’t wait to go back for more!

Now I can finally say that I’ve tasted chicken and waffles! And they were really good. The waffles were light and fluffy, and the syrup was also delicious. The fried chicken had a good crispy exterior and soft well-cooked insides, not dry at all. The seasonal vegetables were grilled and very tasty. The macaroni and cheese was light, creamy and full of flavor. The service was fast and the food was great. I hope to visit again soon!
