Great little country store and deli. My friend and I had the chicken salad which was delicious. The folks who I assume were the owners were so nice. They offered us samples of some of their yummy baked goods. It is a few miles off the exit. But anyone traveling up or down 64 around Charlottesville should stop in and get a bite because it is well worth it

What a nice gem in the country! A locally owned sandwich shop and catering business. They greet you and offer to help as soon as you walk in the door. There is a chalk board menu with several signature breakfast, sandwiches, wraps, etc listed. There is a counter with plenty of delicious looking pastries/deserts/cookies. We stopped in to pick up sandwiches to take to a vineyard and they gladly helped us make decisions, offered suggestions, and everything was made fresh as we waited… nothing ‘remade’ like at some places. It look about ten minutes, but it was good, you had a good portion of meat on your sandwiches. They had slightly different twists to some of their sandwiches that sounded great while still having plenty of classic’s too! Apparently their rice pudding is amazing, while we were in there, someone came in and purchased five lbs of it! When we went to leave(after we had paid for everything) they let us know they gave us two sides of the salads since it was their last day and we had to wait slightly longer since there were only two ladies in there. Everything was great. We will definitely stop in again for breakfast and lunch nest time we are in the area. I highly recommend you do too!

Food was great! Girlfriend had the pastrami and I had the Chicken Salad sandwich both of which were incredible. Pasta Salad was also delicious with plenty of basil and fresh mozzarella. Owner was very friendly and atmosphere is very relaxed, basically like a country store and dinner with more urban fare. Ate there in Nov 2015 plan on going back next time I am passing through!

I was in the area on business and Unilocal turned me on to the Troy Market. I’m sure glad I found it. Upon walking in, I asked them what they recommended. He immediately suggested the chicken salad and rice pudding. He said the chicken salad has won awards and I can see why. Absolutely delicious and he shared it wasn’t made with any Mayo. I also loved the rice pudding and had a little for dessert. In addition to the quality of food, the mom and son team were absolutely lovely. Incredibly friendly and hospitable and a pleasure to talk with. It’s a quaint little shop on the main road and if you blink, you will miss it. Make sure to check it out. You will be glad.

Found this little place when we were on our way to Charlottesville, small Deli style restaurant with good eats! The bread is homemade, chicken salad is out of the world! They have a small section with tables if you want to eat in, or take it to go. The lady who waited on us was very sweet, she just pulled warm biscotti out of the oven and gave us a free sample to go! Tomatoes on our chicken salad locally grown! I love finding little gems like this!

This is a seriously good restaurant. There are enough choices on the menu and they are creative. We had a fabulous dessert which was a crème burlee sprinkled with pop rocks, and side of cotton candy! This may not sound like it works, and may seem too child like, but it rocked! And it shows the creativity this restaurant offers. Everything we’ve eaten here has exceeded our expectations. We will eat here as often as we can, it’s that good!

I absolutely LOOOOOOVE Penne Lane Caterers, located inside the Troy Market!!! This place offers a lovely dine-in/carry-out menu such as cold and hot sandwiches, wraps, subs, and pastries. Check out for their daily/weekly specials(such as the chicken pot pie, the BLT, etc.). I tried the Almond Chicken Salad(thick chunks of shredded all-white chicken with slivers of onions and light dressing — very fresh), a BLT(thick-cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo — this was absolutely delicious), and the Club BLT(thick slices of oven-roasted turkey, ham, thick-cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo — this was stacked generously, and you could hardly get the sammy in your mouth!). Ask for the freshly-baked oven rolls that come out, as they had a crispy exterior and great with the sandwich; otherwise, they also have your white, wheat, rye, etc. I also tried a side of their potato salad, which were scalloped — tangy and dressed generously, these were pretty tasty(reminded me of a Russian potato salad). As a dessert, I picked up a mini coconut pie, which was generously topped with candied coconut. I loved how all the orders came in a large cake box, so it’s easier to handle: D This place had a huge lunch rush, with people picking up orders to-go; there is also a little area with some tables to dine-in. Patrick, who was working up at the front in taking orders and ringing people up was soooo sweet and hilarious, and Ms. Elizabeth, his mother, was the one who was preparing the sandwiches. Definitely a great place to stop by, as it’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve had — YUM: D I’ll definitely be back! :D +ask for Patrick & Elizabeth(son-mother team) :D +BLT +weekly specials(pot pie — Thursdays) +friendly service +dine-in or carry-out

LOVEDIT! My boyfriend and I happened upon this deli after we had moved to the city. They were so polite from the second we walked in. The boy behind the counter recommended the chicken salad sandwich and it is by far the best I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back!

Driving through on our way to NC. Previous Unilocal reviews were right! Burger. OMG. If you’re craving one, this is the place to stop in and they’ll build you one fully loaded and delicious. The freshly baked bread is also great… bagels, rolls, etc. Staff super friendly and willing to make something however you would like it. Highly recommend!

Love this little sandwich shop. The food I’ve ordered has always been great, and they have a few grocery items available inside as well, which is really convenient. The staff is always VERY sweet and accommodating. :) Love the sandwich with apples in it.

Being that I am a certified bread snob, I have the right to say in this rural area they can compete with big city bakeries. Don’t pass this place by, stop and enjoy. Fresh bread bagels and sweets. Every friday crabcakes. I went on a Thurs and got the chicken potpie that had a croissant crust on top, yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmay

We are so glad to see such a promising business start up in a country store that has seen its share of business turnover. This place has a great mix of a Deli, bakery and a convenience market. The owners are a gourmet baker and a gourmet chef and they believe in healthy cooking, telling me they don’t even have a deep fryer. They do make fried chicken and stuff like that on occasion but generally this is not a burger and fries joint. They have a good selection of some old standard sandwiches as well as some more gourmet/specialty/healthy sandwich options and apparently will offer some special meals here and there as well. The baked goods are top notch… both the breads and the pastries. I gave four stars because our initial sandwich order was not perfect for us, but extremely high quality food nonetheless. I could not give lower than four stars for our criticism because the level of quality of the ingredients was simply as good as it gets. My wife and I split two sandwiches; a Rueben and a classic steak and cheese sub. Both sandwiches were not very evenly stacked regarding the ingredients. This must be taught in culinary school or something because from the finest restaurants all the way down to McDonalds people seem to go out of their way to clump and cluster sandwich ingredients so that you get an uneven mix of flavors as you eat it. I am always deconstructing and reconstructing sandwiches I order because care seems to seldom be taken to evenly build a sandwich in the restaurant business. The Reuben was made like a sub as far as the ingredients starting on end of the sandwich and ending on the other… a wad of corned beef near one side, the cheese in the middle and the sauerkraut on the other side. I say this because it was not a sub… it was sliced bread. The sandwich was supposed to have Russian dressing on it but we did not taste any. The store made rye bread was fantastic The steak and cheese sub was not toasted but the sub roll was good. I ordered it with onions and the marinated red peppers they offered. My half of the sub had no onions that I could taste. The sub needed more seasoning for my preference, like some mayo, salt pepper, etc., and I like pickled peppers on my steak subs, which they did not yet have. Both sandwiches were of the highest quality ingredients and were still delicious. But I’ll know now to ask for extras, as they were not as strong on flavor as I prefer. All in all, this place is a winner and I would recommend it.
