I had a mocha cappuccino from there the other day and it was so fresh and tasted like they literally brewed it right before. Ever since then I come and get my coffee there everyday before work, and even bring some for my co-workers who also say they love it. You guys have a regular right here!

Though I used to really enjoy their menu(four-five years ago), they have since changed it a few times — not that that’s a bad thing, necessarily. Thankfully, though, they’ve kept the better standards, so that’s good. Basically, I’ve never been disappointed in the food I’ve had at NM Café. It’s definitely a favorite of mine if I’m in the area and have some time to kill.

A hidden gem worth searching out when you’re in Troy, the NM Café has great food, friendly servers and a design style that manages to be both elegant and minimalist simultaneously. Chances are this tiny(20 tables in all) bistro isn’t on your radar because you likely don’t know it’s there. Located on the third floor of Neiman Marcus at the«old» Somerset Mall, the restaurant is nestled behind the exclusive department store’s gift gallery, making it not visible when walking the floor. But find it you must, since the food is some of the area’s best: salads full of fresh greens, fruit and cheeses; new twists on classic sandwiches, like a grilled cheese that features avocado and bacon; deserts made in-house daily that rival any you’ve had and loved — whether from grandma’s kitchen or a five-star restaurant. Seasonal features abound, from Lobster Cobb Salads in the summertime to hearty Chicken Pot Pies when winter comes to the metro area. Known for its Mandarin Orange Soufflé — a scoop of either chicken or tuna salad accompanied by fresh fruit, the muffin of the day and the aforementioned chilled orange soufflé — the restaurant has something for every taste and appetite. Starkly beautiful black and white photographs of Cranbrook fill the walls of the muted dining room, making this a destination for special occasions as well as a quick light lunch. With its somewhat secret location and its small size, it’s best to make reservations for large parties(five or more) or on weekends. The NM Café is open for lunch only, Monday — Thursday 11AM — 3PM and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11AM — 4PM. Closed on Sundays, it’s the perfect place for a wedding or baby shower and off-site catering is available as well. Stop by the NM Café the next time you’re at Somerset — you won’t be disappointed!
