I was pleasantly surprised when we visited this establishment. Nostalgia beckoned us here and it did not disappoint. I do think they need to add more vegan and vegetarian options to their menu, particularly being in a retail place, no one wants a heavy dish. But they accommodated my salad request, the service was friendly, it was quiet like a hidden oasis and the portion size was on point. I didn’t have a drink, but they had a refreshing drink menu. We will definitely be back!

I have gotten take out salads here many many times because Lakeshore Grill in general has really great salads, but this location SUCKS. Four separate occasions: 1. Grilled chicken was cold(supposed to be warm) 2. They forgot my dressing 3. Forgot my chicken. 4. And then this last time I looked in the bag before I left. Chicken? Yup. Dressing? Yup. Good to go. Left and I went to eat, the big bag that normally has the roll in it had no roll. Just butter and plastic wear. It’s not even about the stupid roll, it’s the principle of the matter! These salads cost like $ 13 just to be messed up every time. Never going again.

This is a fabulous restaurant and perhaps one of the best in a mile radius around 14 Mile and John R. Criminally slept on, dare I say. People still crack outdated jokes about the Oakland Mall but it’s fighting back and the Lakeshore Grill has dutifully held the flag for Hudson’s with delicious appetizers, specials and well made entrees that conclusively hit the spot. The menu here will surprise you with their bistro offerings while the view overlooking the mall provides a panoramic glimpse of your fellow Metro Detroiter’s that will make you hate them much less. I hadn’t given this place a shot in well over a decade until my angel of a Mother gave me a gift card for Macy’s this past Christmas. Amazingly, I still had funds available even after decking myself out in Sean Jean, LRG and Rocawear attire from the bottom floor. Kidding. I splurged at Somerset because they have Northface, Ben Sherman and raw denim muahahaha. Despite my newly purchased snobbery via Mommy, I had funds left over and spent them at Oakland and not Somerset Macy’s. I can imagine the hisses and boos from you all right now as you shake your head but I insist you resist the inclination to diss! Listen up… Lakeshore Grill serves an opulent burger that’s ideally seasoned, cooked to your exact specifications and delivered with their tremendous french fries and a stainless cup filled with ketchup. Utterly fantastic. Before your meal even begins, they serve you a popover which is like a croissant in the shape of an over-sized muffin that’s lightly baked but slightly substantial in a decadent way that begs for just a slight swipe of the creamy butter that it’s served with. Heaven on Earth. On Wednesday and Friday, they serve their wine at half off which coincides with Macy’s corporate philosophy of inflating prices only to discount them often. The prices still aren’t that great but it’s nice to have a bottle of wine with your meal and still come out under $ 50 or $ 60 for two. The wait staff has been great to talk to and very welcoming while accommodating the difficult drunken requests that occur when wine is served at 50% off. I’ve eaten here thrice since January and each time has been equally fantastic. Looking forward to going back. You have to take the escalator to the second floor and walk past the candy shoppe and women’s apparel to get there. But trust me, you should get there whether your awesome Mom got you a gift card or not.

The only reason I gave it 1 star was for the waitress. She was slow, but nice. The other was the Manager let me get a to go(a salad to play it safe) unless they spit in it after I complained. We used a coupon but still had to spend a total of $ 37.50, so out of pocket was 23 with the overage and the tip. I ordered the fish and chips and it came dark and told the waitress and she said it usually comes out darker due to it being almond crusted. It was burnt and dry, yuck. My hubs ordered the meatloaf and might as well eaten off of a salt lick. Yuck. The soup was supposed to be Canadian cheese, but tasted like Campbell’s cheddar with small pieces of onion and carrots and I mean small… The popovers were the best part of the meal, so we spent 23 bux on 2 popovers. Do not go here. It is not what you would expect at all. I miss the old Hudson’s mezzaniene Downtown. Now they had good food. I would of rather had a coney for 2 bux or a sub for 5. Do not waste your $$$, time or tummy woes.

This is one of the only lakeshore grills that you can get popovers at. The popovers with butter & jam keep me coming back to Oakland mall when I need to visit a Macy’s over going to other malls I’d rather visit. Also, it’s probably the best food in the mall for people looking for vegetarian options.

I came here open to experience something new. I won a gift certificate and decided to use it here. I ordered a Mello Yello. I think there was something wrong with the soda machine, but I didn’t want to be a problem right off the bat for my waitress because she was being really attentive to me and friendly. I ordered the BLT Jam Burger. I liked that a lot. However, for dessert, I ordered the strawberry shortcake dessert(at least, I think that’s what it was called) and the presentation was lovely, but the taste was strikingly harsh and off. I have honestly never had a dessert that tasted like this. I didn’t even know dessert could taste this bad! I told the waitress. I’m sure they get that comment a lot. I wanted to like my experience so bad, but the dessert and drink set me off. My waitress didn’t offer to take the dessert off my tab. I will not be coming here again.

My boyfriend and I had a $ 10 off coupon for this place from , otherwise we’d never had thought of eating out there. It took a few minutes of us standing around to be seated, then when we asked for a seat near the balcony we felt like the hostess rushed us along like we’d asked for too big of a favor(there were plenty of tables). I ordered the Caesar salad($ 10.95!!), and my boyfriend ordered a bowl of soup and a plate of hummus. My salad consisted of some sad, limp lettuce and shredded chicken that I pushed to the side. My boyfriend’s soup was good, but it definitely wasn’t worth $ 5. His plate of hummus was more like a dollop of hummus, with only a few strips of pita bread on the side($ 7). Even with the $ 10 discount, my boyfriend and I wished we had bought a sub or a pizza elsewhere and donated our savings to charity for starving kids.

I enjoy coming here as a treat once in a while as I am shopping with my family. They do a nice job of keeping a few of the classic Hudson’s dishes like Maurice salad and the yummy popovers. The rest of the menu has been updated and features dishes from celebrity chefs. I tried their«Jam Burger» which was a beef burger served on a pretzel bun with onion straws and tomato jam. It was a little busy, but definitely tasty. The popovers were quite yummy and went well with my father’s tomato soup order. The tomato soup was spicy and rather interesting, but it was an acquired taste… my mother thought it was too spicy. Overall, I think the food is quite good and blows the rest of the mall’s food offerings out of the water. The service, however was abysmally slow. We ordered a soup, salad, burger and a kids meal and we were waiting 40 minutes for our food. The restaurant was nearly empty; there were only 2 other tables in the whole restaurant beside us. I have no clue what was happening and why, nor did we get offered an explanation by our server. She was also very slow with refilling water glasses and by the time we got our food, they were already vacuuming and had already stopped seating people. Overall, I would go back, but I hope that the service times improve on my next visit.

Came here after buying a suit, and they have the poppers Hudson’s used to have! Got the Maurice Salad, excellent. Tastes like Hudson’s! Service was great, and my server’s name was Nancy. The restaurant overlooks the mall, which sets a nice scenery. Would come back!

What an interesting place — it is on the 2nd story balcony of Macy’s overlooking the rest of the mall. It actually has a nice ambience and if you do not look out the main entrance(into Macy’s) or over the balcony, you would not realize that you are in a mall. If not for our certificate — which is how we came across this place, this would be very pricy(considering that you are eating in Oakland Mall). That said, the food is really good and you get what you pay for. I had the rock fish(not sure what that is, exactly) and my colleagues had the jam burger — we did not allow eachother to get anything that did not have the tomato jam. Rules are rules. The truffle sauce(mayonaise thing) with the fries is really good. REALLYGOOD. I dunno — this is a really solid place in an unfortunate location.
