I hate buying cars! I spent most of my adult life feeling like I was being ripped off every time I purchased one. Used cars were the worst and I really got taken advantage of on a used car I purchased several years ago from a big name dealer. «Used Car Salesman» has always been a favorite derogatory term I use to describe shady business people. My opinion of buying used cars changed considerably when I found Foreign Auto in Troy, NY. Honesty, integrity, fair pricing are words that I would not ordinarily use in describing car dealers but they apply when talking about Foreign Auto! I purchased my first vehicle from them about 10 years ago. It was a 1995 Eddie Bauer edition F-150 with only 60,000 miles! The price and condition of the vehicle looked too good to be true. I drove in to look at it and found it to be even better in person! But the price didn’t make sense! The price was right where the numerous vehicle price guides placed it for a fair retail value. That can’t be! What car dealership prices vehicles fairly??? Foreign Auto provided me the title history on the vehicle and it was absolutely clean. SOLD! That vehicle served me well for 10 years but is on its way out. It was incredibly reliable and I never discovered any kind of hidden problems. Some people say that buying used cars is buying somebody else’s problems. Not the case with that purchase! That truck was aging and started to have issues. It was time to replace it. I looked no further than the Foreign Auto website. Wow… a 2001 F-350XLT V-10 gas with dually rear wheels and only 70,000 miles in mint condition!!! Again, too good to be true! The price… right where the suggested retail price is for that vehicle on every on-line used car guide I checked!!! I first emailed them about the vehicle and they quickly responded to my query. I was traveling and actually applied for credit via their website while in an airport lounge. A short while later they were calling me with my approval. I wasn’t going to be able to see the truck for another few days until after the end of my business trip. They accepted an over the phone down-payment and held the truck for me. When I did get in to see the truck, I found out that they had been having a lot of interest in the vehicle and someone even called and was willing to put down almost half of the value of the vehicle in cash… but they promised to hold it for me and they did. I then found out that they had a problem with their credit card machine so they never even processed my over the phone payment! They stuck to their word by holding the vehicle and had not yet charged me a dime! The truck again was even better in person. I took it for a test drive and found a couple of minor items that they were able to correct prior to my final purchase. Upon picking up the truck they informed me that their mechanic thought the rear brakes were right at the end of their life. Rather than sticking me with the problem(and probably a $ 1200 bill), they replaced the brakes, rotors and calipers! Again… WOW! Final issue… the vehicle was advertised as having keyless entry. While it was equipped for it… the FOBs were missing. So they offered to refund me $ 75 to cover the cost of new FOBs or they would split the cost of getting a remote starter installed which would also give me the keyless entry! WOW… WOW…WOW I just got finished having the remote starter installed and Foreign Auto took care of all of the arrangements! I can’t recommend these guys enough! You might find yourself leaving a used car lot with a good feeling for once! P. S. I had a little issue arise with my headlights soon after I took receipt of my F-350. I contacted them and they told me to bring it whenever was convenient. They rapidly repaired it under warranty with no hassles. Repair was done within a day!
