Absolutely wonderful restaurant. Great vibe and great food! Second time here on business travel and it’s such a treat to come here. Staff is fantastic and they treat you like a person. If you miss this place, you miss a lot! Looking forward to another visit soon. Thank you Basil’s!

When visiting from Atlanta and having had an enjoyable lunch here on a previous visit, I planned and made reservations weeks in advance for brunch here for 15 adults and 2 children today. First off we were crowded into a room where we could barely eat, sitting elbow to elbow. The food and food selection were excellent and the price was certainly right. However the management and service were hugely disappointing. The food stations were not staffed so constantly out of food with long waits to be refilled. There was no dessert station per se…2−3 cannolis would be set out and quickly snatched up. Then they ran out of cannolis when just a few had snagged one. They switched to chocolate cake that was sub par and again would put out 2 – 3 plates at a time. Coffee was never refilled without going out and asking out waitress(3x). We cleared our own plates from the table 75% of the time. The real disappointment was when I expressed disappointment about the empty food stations and the need to request that they be refilled with a long wait, and the manager said well that’s the way we ruin it to reduce waste and save money because we are a small operation!!! I told her that i have eaten in restaurants all over the world and in large and small towns and it just isn’t the way to run a brunch. She totally did not see the problem at all. I can’t speak for anyone except the 14 of us adults who barely voted 3 stars and all agreed we would happily pay $ 3 to $ 5 more per person to have staffed food stations, desserts, and better service.

Closing time is GETOUT time! Do not go after 8pm! I got there at 825 ordered app and beverage. Bartender said at 835 you should order we close at 9pm! 840 all bar lights are out and the pressure to get you out begins!!! I was finishing up at 905 when the table behind tried to order another drink, the bartender quickly said«no we closed at 9pm! They are getting their wishes to get out early because they were empty at 9pm. Don’t waste your money go elsewhere. I have been going there for over a year a each visit gets worse. I am done!

What I like about Basil’s: not a chain restaurant, good craft beer choices, good atmosphere(although seating can be uncomfortable-straight bench seats and/or broken down cushions on booth), the food is pretty good, using local produce, and the owner actually gives a crap about his customers. What I don’t like, really heavy options and little to no options for vegans/vegetarians, the staff can be hit or miss, seating, and price of food. For what you get, I think it’s too pricey. I also think it’s gone downhill since their grand opening days(food wise). I would go again as there are only a handful of homegrown restaurants anymore, and this one is decent. Nothing I’d rush to though.

Four stars because the service was amazing, the atmosphere is really cool and the drinks are great. Not five stars because the food was just OK. I got the twins fillets with a mushroom sauce and vegetable medley with onion straws and potatoes on the side. The onion straws were a bit soggy, the fillets were a bit small and not the best cut I’ve ever had. The vegetables were primarily squash which I don’t like and should have asked first. Others in my party had the same experience with their food, OK but not great.

We were in town for a girls volleyball tournament when a break in the action allowed us to sneak away for lunch. We couldn’t have been luckier. Basils offers that rare combination of fresh, creative and, delicious healthy offerings. My wife had the fish tacos which were out of this world and I had ahi tuna with a basil pesto sauce that was fantastic. As a matter of fact, we we’ so enjoyed our meals that we returned later that evening with 6 others. I had the ribeye and it was done to perfection and other guests ate anything from Pizza to gnocchi and couldn’t say enough about the quality and freshness of their meals. Our waiter, Doug, both afternoon and evening, was extremely helpful, pleasent and enjoyable to have wait on us.

Overall this was a great experience with a few bumps. We will definitely go back. Great food, wine, atmosphere, and service ensured that. We are 40 minutes away from this place but we have heard so many great things and they are opening another location downtown Dayton mid summer, so we wanted to check it out. We were glad we did. It’s a very cool old but nicely renovated building downtown Troy. You walk in to see exposed brick walls, very cool flooring, and an open kitchen. I love that. We sat at the bar. They have a nice selection of craft beers, wine, and specialty cocktails. The bartender was very welcoming and helped us make a wine selection and placed an appetizer order for us. We chose the bruschetta. Fresh tomatoes marinated with garlic, sea salt, extra virgin olive oil & basil, slightly warmed over grilled focaccia bread. Neither one of us were that thrilled with it. They had nice slices of baguette but the rest just seemed like flavorless diced tomatoes. The wine was tasting good so we pressed on to dinner. My wife ordered the gnocchi. Sautéed Gnocchi with Basil’s homemade bruschetta, spinach red onions & kale in a white wine sauce & accented with Basil’s Pesto Sauce. This dish was amazing. It was extremely flavorful and very well put together. I ordered the ribeye. Fire Roasted Ribeye grilled to perfection finished Basil’s homemade butter crowned with Delmonico onions atop Basil’s potatoes resting on dijon au jus. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. It was also very well seasoned and had a ton of flavor. My difficulty was with the cut of meat itself. It was a very thin cut and more than half of it was blubber and gristle. I hope that I got an unusual cut for them. My potatoes were also good but i am guessing that because they shoot them out of a cake decorator that its difficult to keep them warm. Mine were room temp at best. It also came with two sprigs of asparagus which were tasty but they never trimmed the ends. That part is inedible. So you are probably wondering why I would give them four stars after an unimpressive appetizer and a weak steak offering. The place was still very cool and very good. Between my wife’s dish and the great service we received, that was enough to give them 4 stars. I would like to give them 5 stars. We will go back. We’ll see what happens. Definitely try it.

Great dinner option, especially for a date or birthday. The building is beautiful, warm and comfortable. Our server was friendly, helpful, and accurate and other employees helped keep our table cleared and drinks filled As for the food, most of it was quite good. The Blackened Shrimp & Scallops didn’t seem blackened at all, but the shrimp were really well seasoned and the risotto on which they were served was possibly the best I’ve had. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Horseradish Crusted Sirloin. The calamari appetizer was good, but nothing special; we’ve had that exact same dish in dozens of other restaurants. I think the only negative to the entire evening was dessert. The serving dishes plates were hilariously«garnished» with anything and everything sweet in the kitchen. They were just a mess. The beignets were good, but the chocolate bundt cake was cold, dry, and(I think) store bought. Just sad.

I love local places and this one did not disappoint! Adorable inside! I love when I have the issue that everything on the menu sounds amazing… and this place presented that exact issue! I couldn’t resist trying a cup of the lobster bisque, which was the perfect amount of creamy and perfect texture. I also did the salad with chicken and I could eat the basil dressing on everything! Total, I ate here 4 times in 4 days. The lobster mac and cheese was heavy, but delicious. The caprese chicken sandwich was also tasty… I had plenty left over, definitely enough to share. I enjoyed the dry cider! Truffle fries were to die for. I could go on all day and if I ever am in Troy again, this is a must-do!

A solid restaurant in Downtown Troy, someplace I didn’t even know existed before today. Had a late lunch… ahi sushi appetizer was spectacular, and their Epic Burger which wasn’t terribly epic but tasty. Not something I’d order again, but I wouldn’t hold that against them. Very welcoming and warm waitress… sorry I didn’t catch her name. will definitely return on my future business trips to Troy.

Not exactly a ‘hole in the wall’ but rumor has it that this place is becoming a local hot spot and favorite. We’re just passing through and had an awesome dinner last night with my girlfriend(vegetarian) and sister. Awesome little menu, super awesome service and, in this case a refuge from a passing storm. Today, my girlfriend and I sneak back in to sample the lunch menu. The awesome continues with a great selection and same super awesome service. So, for lunch or dinner in downtown Troy, give Basil’s on Market a chance and I’m pretty sure you’ll be pleased and pleasantly surprised.

A friend and I stopped in here for lunch on a Thursday after normal lunch hours. I had an «Epic Burger» and she had a seared tuna salad. I asked for the burger to be cooked rare… it didn’t quite make it a consistent rare, but it was mostly right. The burger had a jalapeño artichoke spread that was pretty garlicky, but really good nonetheless. Nice onion straws on the burger, and a good quality bun The Saratoga chips tasted a little over done, just a touch too browned… but the crunch was very nice. Overall, a good burger, and large portion with what was in my opinion very good quality meat. Her seared tuna salad was very good good. It had asparagus, grilled tomato, spinach, red peppers, what I believe was pecorino cheese, and a basil vinaigrette. It was also quite good. We finished with one of their Mile High Cheesecakes and I’m not sure if it was made in house, but it was a pretty solid cheesecake. Could have been a bit more tart/tangy for my taste, but I enjoyed it. Recommended for lunch. Haven’t been for dinner.

Chose to try Basil’s on Market for our 6th wedding anniversary, and we were pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is somehow casual and classy at the same time. The décor is unique and inviting, and the location right downtown is excellent. I had the Strawberry Shortcake martini, the special for Strawberry Festival weekend, and the Lobster Shells and Cheese. Both were absolutely amazing. The steak my husband ordered was cooked exactly how he wanted. The hostesses and our waitress were super friendly and attentive. We will definitely be returning! Thank you for an A+ experience.

What a terrific place! Extremely clean, well thought out menu and great presentation. Cool, contemporary design — you want to be here! House salad and filet were excellent! You can see the kitchen through a large plate glass window. I was delighted to see the chef cleaning the kitchen in between preps. Everything about this place communicates the owner«gets it» and he cares. Very cool! I wish it were in my hometown.

This is one of my favorite places to eat when I’m in Troy visiting family. The menu and drinks and atmosphere place it somewhere between bistro and gastropub. And the service the times I’ve been has been Midwest small town friendly. The menu itself is big not no so big they don’t do a very nice job with everything. The selection of beers on tap(are there 10??) is admirable. I was a little surprised when I asked about the beers the server didn’t list(I counted more taps that she named) and she said the remaining one, [name], is an IPA and most people don’t like those, so she didn’t bother to mention it. Of course that’s exactly what I wanted. Glad I asked.

Ordered a seasonal pumpkin beer with the salmon with honey glaze over veggies(zucchini, squash, tomatoes and onions). The entire dish was out of this world delicious! I never and I mean never like the veggies that come on this dish but I wanted to go outside my comfort zone and I am glad I did!!! The bartender was well versed in the various beers and offered a fre samples to ensure that I would find a beer I would like. I sat at the bar as seating is somewhat limited.
