Katey nailed it. I went into the store after being disappointed the Harry & David outlet store had little to offer. In fact, the sales folks in that store just ignored we were there. Sure they were helping someone but there were TWO of them and neither of them could break away and say hello? So I left H&D disappointed. Good thing. I walked across the parking lot to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. The store had another couple who seemed a bit undecided. I stood at the display case for those amazing caramel/chocolate dipped apples. Immediately Katey welcomed me to the store and asked which I would like — a peanut butter swirled chocolately goodness apple and asked her to slice it. She then began not only excellent customer service but excellent salesmanship. Instead of asking me «Is that it?» She asked me «And what else would you like?» She INVITED me to shop more. Great job! I was impressed. So yeah, the bill went from $ 6 to $ 22 pretty quickly and I am more than satisfied. And check it out, when I told her I was done with my sweet treats she offered if I needed a beverage. That’s excellent. Whomever trained her knew their stuff and with her genuine personality she’ll go far in sales if that’s her plan for the future. I ended up giving her a tip, a compliment and assured that a 5 star review was in her future. Will I return? Absolutely. It was a great experience, fantastic treats plus the clean store made it wonderful. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, if you’re reading this, Katey deserves a raise. She’s doing her part to sell your wonderful products, now do your part and reward a hard-working employee who providers her customers with a delightful, sweet treatment. Anyone can stand behind a counter, but clearly professionally mannered and genuine service minded individuals should be rewarded for their efforts.

Yum yum yum! Love their good selection of Carmel Apples! They also have a good selection of chocolates, and edible creations among other things! They only had one type of fudge, tho! Dang!

There was long wait to get what I wanted even though there were not many customers. On the top of that there was billing error. The cones are good and reasonably priced. However, the chocolates are waaaaaaaaay overpriced and there is no pricing displayed for the chocolates.

Love Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! One of my best friends worked there in high school and got me hooked on their caramel apples! Also the chocolate covered potato chips were to die for but I think have since been discontinued… I was in the other day –with said friend and her 1 ½ yr old daughter– and we obviously HAD to get some goodies. Was bummed to see the chocolate covered potato chips had not made their way back on the shelf and even more bummed to find that my FAVORITE treat of all the Avalanche Bar has now become some kind of cupcake shape? And now has far fewer chocolate chips and is much more difficult to enjoy. What gives Rocky Mountain? Who is making these decisions? All in all it was still a successful trip thanks to some chocolate covered red vines but I will probably only mosey in for an apple from time to time from now on.

I drive past other chocolate stores get on the freeway then by the time I get home there is no chocolate. The chocolate they use is better than most and they have a great selection of stuff as well.

This Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory’s check-in offer is the best darn check-in offer I’ve ever seen! ½ lb of fudge for free?! Awesome. Kind of weird that they wouldn’t let Ben have a ½ lb too, seeing as he his own person and checked in as well, but I wasn’t about to argue since they just handed me a bunch of fudge for free. Hopefully the offer is still around next time we’re in Troutdale. As far as the quality of chocolate goes… it’s decent. Not amazing but not bad either. This trip I indulged in purchasing dark chocolate covered orange peel, ‘seafoam’, rocky road mix, orange jelly, and English toffee. I like See’s better and they’re about on-par with Godiva. They have a good sugar-free selection. Most case chocolates, excluding fudge($ 15/lb) and truffles($ 2.50 each), are $ 21/lb, which is about the same as See’s and much less expensive than Godiva($ 50/lb). I particularly like their caramel apples.

There’s something to be said about a place that seemingly sells every type of caramel apple under the sun… Butterfinger, oreo(my fave), sprinkles, nuts, smores, whatever you can dream of… They may be a bit on the spendy side but it’s SOWORTHIT. They are also more than happy to slice it up for you. Not in the mood for a caramel apple of sorts? They make excellent english toffee and chocolate covered chips, gummies… lots of choices. The place isn’t very big but they sell just about anything your sweet tooth is craving at the moment. Several choices for gifts and pre-packaged candies. Definitely a great stop if you are in shopping at the outlets.

Did you know that«DESSERTS» is «STRESSED» backward? Intriguing isn’t it? I learned that here! And believe me I felt sooooooo relieved and stressed free after I had a scoop of cookie dough and Canadian vanilla which tasted like French vanilla(maybe the owner is European and is bitter towards the French). They were both very refreshing on a hot summer day!

Chocolate worth the price Even though it’s completely overpriced, I can’t manage to not stop in for some sweets at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in the Columbia Gorge Outlets. My favorites are the English toffee, rocky mountain mints and coconut haystacks. They’re not cheap and even if I just get one of these, the total will be about $ 5. But they’re always yummy and well worth it. Whenever I eat homemade chocolate, I get spoiled and packaged candy never seems to do the trick thereafter. The shops also serves up homemade caramel apples, so if you have a strong jar, go for it. Tip: Who says dogs can’t have chocolate? You can buy a bone dipped in white chocolate for your pup.
