Sharing a building with the aptly named Distillery Bar(the club house for the golf course), is the Edgefield Distillery the older of McMenamins two craft Distilleries. The other is in Hillsboro but this one makes more. How do I know this? and how to refer to them as Craft distilleries? I took the tour yesterday. The tour is done daily at 2 o’clock and is done by the employees at the distillery to answer all your questions about how a bunch of grain becomes whiskey and how they make other spirits. The people who do the tour really know their stuff and the tour goes quickly. It lasts about fifteen minutes. The guys who lead it(I have taken it twice from different people) are knowledgeable and friendly. If you are doing your passport(and if not, why not? fun and you get free stuff) you get an experience stamp and a look at McMinamen’s behind the scene. Trivia the McMenamins Brothers like copper, its in all their properties(here the still). The employees are forbidden to polish it. The brothers hate that, they want a nice patina to build up. Tip: as you wait and/or after the tour you can taste the finished process at the bar across the hall or at any of the bars, you can even buy a bottle to take home with you.
