Rich M. must be so self absorbed not to see the mirrors in the shop. For the rest of us, a real old-fashioned barbershop with real nice people. I have been a patron for 35 years. Son and grandson go there too. This is not a salon, it is a barber shop. The place is comfortable, the customers range from Governors to the common man. You will get a haircut, wisdom, a joke or two, a pep talk and a neck and shoulder massage.

A fixture in downtown Trenton, for over 50 years, State Barber shop is a first-come first-served 2 chair barber shop. As a «heads-up,» don’t confuse this barber shop with the«bells-and-whistle» mall chain hair styling salons. The owner, Joe, is known by the local media to be the«Mayor of Warren Street.» When there’s not a customer in his chair, you’ll find him outside of the shop wishing everybody who walks by a wonderful day. His partner, Bruce has formal training in cosmetology and began his career at a styling salon located in Macy’s. As I said, the facility is a 2-chair shop. The walls are lined with photographs of notable people who visited the shop ranging from City, State and Federal politicians, governors and the like. There are also tons of photographs from happy customers — a great testament to the quality of service that they provide. The prices are reasonable. You can get anything from a simple cut to a wash/cut/shave(with a real straight razor and cream). They’ll even shine your shoes if you need them shined. The place is ideal with a child’s first hair cut. If you’re ever in the downtown Trenton area, and you’re in the need for a real hair cut given by a professional barber, I highly-recommend you visit State Barber Shop.

Great hair cut, fast(but not hurried), good price. Very friendly barbers who genuinely appreciate and care for their customers, and who love their town. Highly recommended!

The owner of this place at least tried to be friendly. He’s a former body builder with some younger pictures of himself posted in the shop. It bothered me that the shop didn’t even have mirrors on the walls. Is the place so self-absorbed in how great their haircuts are, that they don’t even care whether or not their patrons can see their own haircut and provide their own opinion? Odd isn’t it? Of course the cut wasn’t exactly how I wanted it, but how could I communicate my dislike if I couldn’t even see it??? On the way out, I was propositioned for some extra work unrelated to the shop… very creepy. Needless to say, I won’t ever be going back.
