This is a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. This is my opinion of the course. I took this course recently. The in-class portion of the course was excellent. Following the in-class portion, there are two range courses, which take place over the course of two days. The range course, in my opinion, is the most practical instruction because you get to ride the motorcycle and learn skills. Nevertheless the in-class portion is important. I was not happy with the 1st range course. The instructors did not make the students and I feel comfortable. Most of us, including myself, were turned off by the gruff«drill-segeant» approach of those two instructors. The air, in my opinion, was not of a learning atmosphere where people felt like they could make mistakes and that the mistakes were part of learning. I felt that the instructors behavior signaled to people that they had to get it right the first time. Also, the one of the instructors tended to make little of certain techniques like to say this is child’s play. They looked so bored. I thought that this was not very acceptable. Some of the students in the class expressed that they were going to complain. Maybe they did, maybe they didn’t. The instructors on the last day gave out a evaluation form to be sent in to the MSF without including a stamp on the form. I am always bothered by organizations that want feedback but expect you to pay the postage. However, I am not sure even if they bothered since most probably just said, «Well, I passed, what the heck.» I decided to call the school directly and voice my complaint. This is a capitalistic society with a lot of competition so I felt that it was fair to the company first before I post this. You see, in my opinion, business is fueled mostly by word-of-mouth. Businesses sometimes make mistakes or don’t deliver to the expectations of the customer. That’s understandable. However, I believe they should make their customers feel whole. I would strongly recommend a business that made a mistake or didn’t deliver to my expectations, but made me whole again and did something to make me feel like they really appreciate my business. I told my story to the owner of the business. The cost of the class was $ 235. She offered me $ 25 back. I really thought that I should be offered a 1⁄3 of the price back since that is the portion that I had a problem with. She said that she couldn’t do that and proceeded to give me advice about how people in life can have personality conflicts. I’m adult, I understand that. Thank you. So, I gave her this advice: call the students and ask them what they feel. Many of them felt the same way or/and had other complaints. Also, I would go further to say that businesses should feel lucky that people take time out of their day and volunteer to tell the business of a problem. That business should make them whole and make them want to come back and/or recommend it to other people. I told the owner that I would make this post. She immediately said that she hoped that I would not slander her. I don’t intentionally do evil things. I don’t screw people like that. But in this competitive atmosphere, I believe I should be honest and let people know about my experiences with a business. She told me to mention in my post that I will receive $ 25 back on my credit card(I thought that wasn’t enough, but better than nothing) and that I successfully completed the class. In my opinion, there is a difference between successfully completing something and feeling that you got your money’s worth and learned something. You can get a A on a test, but haven’t fully grasped the material. I told her that this is not personal to her. This is about business. I will also add that the instructor Dale was really great. Would I recommend the course overall. No, unfortunately, I would probably not.
