Every trip to TC includes a trip to the U & I. Great neighborhood bar & great bat food. Try the sub, outstanding.

Easily the best local bar in traverse city. Excellent food and service. Lots of TVs and they actually have relevant games on without having to ask.

Golden tee, great happy hour and a little divey atmosphere. Love this place! The spinach artichoke and crab dip is unbelievable! Must must must get this. Served with little warm pitas that are slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Great selection of draft beera as well. I would be here regularly if I lived in TC

Best dive/cool spot. Great pizza and other food. I know it’s hard to believe if you walk in this place. But give it a chance. Plus they have darts

The food was pretty good; burgers are HUGE. Guacamole for chips is a tiny, overpriced cup. Service was pretty slow, might’ve been because we ordered 4 burgers, but the appetizers were slow too. It’s a hole-in-the-wall place that seems to usually be a «locals» place, but tourists(like me) still go because it’s right in the thick of the shopping district.

Popped in here for a quick dinner while we were visiting Traverse City. It was Cherry Fest weekend, so almost every bar was packed. This is your typical local bar. I was surprised to see Greek items on the menu, though, and my Greek Salad was terrific. Service was quick!

Local place with the gyros you can find! Great drink selection, you will not regret checking this place out.

It’s a bar. Typical bar food. The special thing about is it is for all the locals who want a local dive bar, not infested with young 21 somethings or old geezers. this place is nothing special.

This was pretty decent place but it was packed on a Saturday night, we came out here for a couple of drinks. The service was prompt and drinks were usual. It wasn’t too expensive either.

I needed to eat it was after 10 pm… Limited choices. I won’t return here, the bartender loudly said he’s a dick to customers & laughed about it.

Stopped in here for a quick beer while we were bouncing around downtown. Typical dive bar. We didn’t have the opportunity to eat, but I wouldn’t be opposed to giving it a shot at some point. Bartender was friendly. The booths have the old school red leather. They looked like they might be a bit cramped for me, but intimate nonetheless.

Dive bar at its finest! Great food and great cheap drinks. Even has many microbrews to choose from.

LOVE their food! Wraps, Gyros, burgers, sandwiches, Pita, all wonderful! Staff has always been very attentive, even when they are busy(which is often). One of my favorite go-to places downtown Traverse City. Parking can be difficult to find for the location of being centrally located downtown, but so definitely worth the multi-block hike!

I loved this little dive bar. The beer was cheap($ 3.50 for a local microbrew pint), the service was friendly, and the place was cozy(love all the booths!). This is a big place to watch the game. They have TV’s lining one of the walls, but they’re up high enough to where they’re not intrusive in your conversation — they’re just there if you want to look. I was not impressed with the food, but maybe that was just me. Everyone else at the table thought it was«ok». I would definitely return here, but maybe eat elsewhere first.

I came to the U & I Lounge on a weekday in late June with a couple of locals. They were like«why not»? Seeing’s how I’m not a local and in no position to refute the choice one way or another, we entered the somewhat dark and… odoriferous Lounge. The fact that it smelled of smokey years gone by amongst other things is not entirely surprising. But smoke wasn’t the only smell. As we sat in our cozy booth(can you say«knocking knees»?) another smell was all too obvious. Mmmm, how to describe it? I call them«toilet mints»…the solid/crystalline substance put in a men’s urinal to keep it smelling… less than horrible. Having that smell at my table is an experience I have not had before, and I’d rather not have again. And I just couldn’t shake it. Service was good, nothing spectacular, but good. The food was tasty for bar food. There was plenty of it, not too surprising. We were there during a World Cup Soccer game, ½ of the TVs were on the game, the other half had MLB Baseball/ The whole place is a bit tired. Every time I mentioned that I went to the U & I local folks said«I’ve never been there! Come here for a ordinary bar experience.

Great place for gyros! The staff was great at answering my gluten questions and willing to check on items and offer suggestions. The nachos were awesome. The music was at a great level not to loud and if course the tigers game was on! Great place.

Don’t judge a book by its cover! Stopped for lunch while vacationing here with family and not only had wonderful service but also amazing service. Our waitress was Kelsey who was friendly, knowledgeable, prompt with approach and attentive to the details. The food portions were great — not too big, not too small. Prices were competitive for the tourist area and competition. This dive bar /hole in the wall bar is a place that will be a stop on my list when I return. Additionally, the atmosphere gives you the home town feeling that is not overcome by the towns tourist attractions.

Pretty great place to hang out. The food here is pretty good. Gyros are always the best thing on the menu. Story time. My boyfriend called in for two gyros for carry out. When we got here there was only one. Apparently, they only heard one order over the phone. How they handled it was a great show of customer service. They quickly fixed the order and gave us each a free drink and they where all nice and polite to us. Simple gestures and smiling faces made our experience great.

Also known as the the Who am I to locals. Dive bar with a long history in TC. You either love it or avoid it. A great place to meet up and share a round of shots and a few pitchers of beer. I don’t think I have actually eaten the food before. Pizza has been ordered and the tray left empty. Ice Hole shots(think rumplemintz but not 100 proof) are $ 3 and pitchers of Labbatt are $ 7. That’s a steal in my book. Bartenders are efficient and respectful if you’re not being a drunk. The waitresses have a great deal of patience for large groups and are very nice. I like this place because its not near the double-wide and Union Street. I try to avoid that area as much as possible. This place lends it self to be a bit more classy and less violent. If you are going out in TC I would make U&I a must stop, along with Minerva’s happy hour, and Mode’s which is in between the two. If you are feeling on the dangerous side, find the double-wide, but bring a box cutter, and be prepared to defend yourself.
