I love this place, every time I go the food was excellent and the help is fantastic. My only complaint is the prices are high for a small town like that.

Two New Yorkers visiting Torrington looking for a sandwich to wait out the arctic blast of Valentine’s Day 2016. Salerno’s was like a taste of home… great sandwiches… great cannolis… great conversation and service… and good godfather peppwers.

Salerno deli, I found to be overly expensive(sandwiches are about 10 dollars each). I had the«Godfather«their signature sandwich. I found it to be not as good as the compitions sandwiches(Jimmies and Carbones). My advice is not to try this place.

Yum! You have to try the Godfather. It is everything you can imagine it would be. I love spicy food, so be prepared, in the middle of the sandwich, there is a pepper with some sort of hot dressing on it, it will burn your face, but in a good way! There is ample seating with at least 10 tables. There is a good assortment of drinks and chips to choose from. I love this place.

Great take out favorite. Excellent gift baskets. Only better if open in evenings, but everyone deserves a life!

Holy toledo this place was good! Great old school deli with a small selection of Italian imported goods. Total neighborhood spot that doesn’t take cards, only cash or check. 4 people ordered 2 large sandwiches and some chips and we were STUFFED. 1 Diavolo(spicy italian meats w/provolone and jalepenos) and one with grilled chicken, spinach, mozzarella, and roasted reds. Divine. 2 large sandwiches, 2 drinks, and a big bag of chips came to around $ 30. Its a seat yourself place with lots of Godfather memorabilia and is exactly the type of place I like to go for a good sandwich.

We were driving south on CT Route 8 when hunger hit us. My wife found this place on Unilocal. It deserves any high marks others have given it. The people working there were extremely pleasant. The spice turkey wrap I had was excellent. The atmosphere is «sit-down deli». A TV in the main seating area adds to make it a «sports sit-down deli». Although, the sport being broadcast was not your usual sports bar entertainment. It was the Pro Bowler’s Championship. Mike Fagan was able to knock off the tourney’s top seed to take home the Earl Anthony trophy! Now that we found this place, I expect it will be a regular stop on our way past Torrington.

Being from Westchester, NY when I moved to CT, the thing I missed the most about it were the Deli’s. No Deli in CT seemed to have what NY delis had; Fresh Italian Bread, Boars Heads Meats; and HUGE Wedges. I have now found what I was looming for. Salerno’s Deli is awesome! Clean, great sandwiches, and good looming deli salads. Highly recommend this place. Bromberg cash as they don’t take debit cards.

Nice deli. Very friendly staff. Neat and clean interior. Plenty of seating. Great selection of sandwiches, drinks, etc. Good location. Overall, we were very pleased with our lunch. I got an eggplant parm sandwich and my husband got the Godfather sandwich. We also got chips and drinks. All reasonably priced. We will definitely return when we’re back in Torrington.

Yummy sandwiches. Sometimes I wonder if they make it so quality, because they’re across the street from the police station. I mean, come on, you gotta make quality stuff for those who uphold the law.

A very strong deli in anotherwise, gastronomically-devoid area. I’ve been here twice and both times left full and very happy. I’ve gone with the Godfather with the works and have to say its’s very filling. They’re selection is pretty good and it does give you that little, hole-in-the-wall type feel to it that makes you feel even more special for getting a sandwich from here. Definitely worth a trip in, no matter what you go with. However, you’ve gotta dock them a full star for being cash only. In today’s world, that just doesn’t work anymore. Sadly, thats a deterring factor.

I have to agree with the other review here. Salerno’s definitely sits far above Carbones as my favorite spot in torrington for a sandwich. They also have great soups. I personally love the Big Tony. I dont personally understand the draw of Carbones. Its only reason for being popular must be that it has been established for so long that the older residents of torrington remember it soley in its prime, and are blinded to what it has become. Every inch of Carbones is covered in dust and dirt. Every product on a shelf is coated in a gritty gray powder. Its just gross. Salernos is very clean however :)

I’ve actually always liked Salerno’s more than Carbone’s, but I know that sentiment is not one many Torringtonians share. You can’t go wrong with any sandwich here, I’ve had roast beef, the Paisano club, and the Meadow on several occasions, and you can’t go wrong with any of them. My boyfriend’s favorite is the Bada Bing… which as an italian grinder is absolutely enormous. They have a small area for eating in & obviously do takeout too. The only thing that sucks is it’s cash or check only, but they do have an ATM if all you have on you is your debit card. They also sell deli stuff(meat, cheese, ect) by the pound & sell a decent variety of Italian import products as well.
