Inside mitsuwa market place. Drove about 1 hour to come here for the famous«boloniya» bread !!! Finally got a small bag + two slices of cakes. Just want to say: so yummy!!! Heat it up in the toast oven and the smell of butter will fill up your kitchen !!! Crispy outside and soft buttery inside! Just like croissant but more textures! Will try Yutaka next time!

Had a spicy curry donut(karepan) and a fried bread with a hard boiled egg inside and a nice cup of hot black coffee, so delicious and not many places make breads like that and a little harder to find. My one complaint is that I wish they could use a toaster to hear up your bread for you to toast it up hot and crispy rather than use the microwave to heat it up but making it soggy. I think it’s such a great spot for a nice quick breakfast on the go, they do have a nice selection of sweet and savory breads.

Their Christmas cake was terrible. Melting cream and frozen strawberries. Cannot be worse.

I was looking at their menu and not once did the employee acknowledge me. Waited in line for 5 minutes even though there was literally only one person ahead of me. I wanted to order some boba but apparently they ran out… I wish she could’ve told me rather than wasting my time for nothing.

This Japanese bakery has delish breads! Try the hint of banana(banana taste panbread with sugar on top) and yogurt anpan(redbean bun with yogurt mousse on top). Oh and their curry croquette is a real good! I used to like their walnut danish but my last time experience with that was whatever. The walnut danish was drier than usual. I still like their breads though :)

They are located inside Japanese grocery store, Mitsuwa. They actually serve pretty decent dishes. The quality of their pasta dishes are far better than what nearby restaurants serve. But be warned. Their dishes are Japanese Italian. If you are not familiarize with them, you might find some dishes very odd. Their baked goods are high-quality, too. This is definitely one of the BEST Japanese bakeries in Los Angeles area.

Stopped here for dessert and had the cream cornet and strawberry mochi. Let me tell you, the cream cornet is way deeelicious. The cream is light, creamy and cold. The outer croissant crust has a bit of crunch and slightly buttery but not overwhelming. The staff here are so sweet and cordial. It’s clean and there are plenty of carbs to choose from.

Great little bakery inside Mitsuwa market. My wife eats their thick sliced white bread daily. I like the Matcha Bread. It’s super delicious but a little pricey. That’s why no 5 stars. Excellent quality but a little over priced.

The amazing scent of freshly baked bread is so enticing & so hard to resist! Hamadaya has the most amazing pastries and loaf bread. I have tried most of their pastries but the best so far had to be their best seller, cream cornet. Such a beautiful decadent texture of the sweet cream and the flaky, yet soft bread wrapped around is so goood!(Best combo is the cream cornet and Nilgiri black tea from the Lupicia tea shop!) Customer service is usually friendly. While purchasing a sandwich at the bakery area. I was informed that the customer has the choice of either buying the whole sandwich as is or switching out one of the half sandwich for another type(ie. One ham and one tuna). I also LOVE their spicy curry donuts and the chicken salad baguettes are amazing. If you’re ever at the mitsuwa marketplace… go and check this bakery out!

Every time I shop at Mitsuwa, I MUST go here! I have never disliked anything I’ve had here. My go-to items are the crispy cream(cream pan with a crisp cookie-like she’ll on top), an pan, and the cream cornet. I just tried the curry donut, which was savory and delicious. One of these days I’d like to get one of their sandwiches since the Boloniya bread is delicious.

I got the apple custard cake and the houji cha green tea latte mouse and they were both good. The apple custard was super creamy but still had enough of the apple flavor and a tiny bit of cinnamon. The mouse was white even though it was supposed to be a green tea latte flavor so I was worried that It wouldnt have enough green tea flavor but it was good! The flavor was there and the red bean on top make it extra great.

Hamada-ya is pretty decent as far as Japanese bakeries go. I was definitely happy to find it so close by, but I can’t say I wasn’t a bit disappointed to find that it did not live up to the standards of the Hamada-ya I used to frequent in Sangenjaya, Tokyo(which I believe to be one of the best bakeries in Tokyo, but I digress). Still, I’m grateful to be able to get anpan, melon pan, kinpira pan, and all my other favorite Japanese pastries right here in my neighborhood, and at decent prices, albeit only at average quality. That said, two excellent(4 star) items they have are their Plain Boloniya, a Danish style bread loaf that uses authentic Japanese butter. The bread is extremely smooth and fluffy, and buttery enough to warrant eating it as is. Then there’s the Green Tea Azuki Boloniya. A boldly green loaf with flecks of sweet red beans and a delicate waft of green tea. It functions more of a dessert than as bread, and although Americans may find it lacking strong flavor, I definitely recommend trying it as a prime example of a Japanese reinterpretation of a Western food staple. And seriously, where else are you going to get to eat green bread? Be forewarned that they only make these on weekends! On the flip-side of the bakery, they actually also have a full café/take out restaurant that mainly serves Japanese pasta, but since I’ve never had a strong interest in Japanese-style pasta, I can’t comment.

Ordered omlette rice which came with salad and spaghetti. Food and the portion was okay but found the flavor to be mediocre. I think it would have tasted better if they add vegetables in the omlette rice and just add the salad on the side without the spaghetti. I would not order omlette rice next time but still want to try other dishes.

The Cream Cornet is good here. I’ve had it at the location over in the Mituswa over on Centinella @ Venice in the Mar Vista area. It’s probably the best known item here, and most popular. This is a bakery located inside of the Mitsuwa super market grocery store. They have lots of pastries and deserts and bread items here. FYI — — The canned soft drinks, Coca Cola for example are $ 1.25 for 12 oz, but if you go to the Mitsuwa, the 16 oz bottle of Coke is $ 1.29, so you get 25% more soda for less than $ 0.05… the only difference is if you either don’t want that much soda or don’t want to wait in line at the Mitsuwa supermarket. I’d say Hamada-Ya should adjust down to $ 0.75 to maybe $ 1.00 for the canned soda to stay competitive. The parking is easy here, they even have a covered underground lot, as this shares the same area as the Mitsuwa market and some restaurants in the complex. There’s even a newly build«85 Degrees» Taiwanese Chinese Bakery walking distance too.

Located in Mitsuwa Marketplace, Hamada-ya now consists of both a bakery and a take-out restaurant. They took over Italian Tomato and now offer a more limited food menu of spaghettis and other entrees. This review is only for the main bakery side. Food: — Cream cornet — The outer pastry is light and airy with a slight crunch. It is filled with a sweet cream that is delicious! I would definitely recommend these desserts! Note: Cream puffs are filled with the same cream! — Curry Pan — Fried«donut» with curry in the center. Curry is sweet and tasty, though I wish they put more inside. — Ajitama — Flavored egg within the same fried«donut» bread as the curry pan. A little too much egg for the amount of bread you’re eating it with. I think I’d much prefer my ajitama in a bowl of ramen than in a piece of bread. I don’t think I would get this again. — Sandwiches — Bread is always nice and soft! However, it’s deceiving because they put all of the filling in the center of the sandwich to make it look like there is a LOT of filling when cut open, but really, it’s just unevenly distributed… though there is still a decent amount. * Tonkatsu — Pretty generous with the amount of tonkatsu. Tasty and has just the right amount of tonkatsu sauce drizzled on there. Tastes good even when slightly chilled. * BLTA — Bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. The bacon was super fatty and looked like it was still raw. Ugh. I had to throw it in the microwave for a bit. * Egg Salad — Comes with a slice of lettuce. Egg salad is creamy and spreads on the bread easily. * Tuna — Comes with a slice of American cheese and lettuce. Tuna is soft and tasty. The cheese is a nice addition to this simple sandwich.

Their spicy cod roe just got so much spicier! INLOOOOVE! Moving my review from Italian Tomato to here since they have merged! I’m still glad they have my SPICYCODROENOODLETHOUGH!:))) Yummy yummy. So the Japanese are pretty amazing. They can turn anything ethnic into their own. Pizza? Yup, the Japanese can do it with their own twist and flair(ham or curry pizza anyone?) McDonald’s? Yeah, they have their own hamburgers on the menu including the curry burger. Imo, they do almost everything better. haha. Maybe I am biased! Oh well! Italian food? Woah. Interesting! It’s very delicious! When I went to Japan, I was curious and tried their Italian noodles, and to my surprise, it’s very good! [+1] Huge variety of different sauces, toppings, and flavors! [+1] This made me want to try this place when it first came out and what first intrigued me though, were their cakes! Fluffy, light, subtly sweet(not too sweet that it hurts your teeth) and utterly perfect! [+1] Then I happened to glance at the side and they have different specials everyday! My friends and I love having lunch in the marketplace so I tried their specials every other day for a week. Sometimes it’s the meat sauce, the eggplants, the mushroom, the spicy cod. and it’s always 7.95 for noodles, cake, bread, salad, and drink. I don’t really care for the bread and salad even though I eat it. The noodles and the cake are what I’m really there for! [+1] The noodles are filling and the cake adds a nice dessert afterwards! The food looks like it’s been carefully made with love and with care(what I loooove about Japanese restaurants)! [+1] They also serve the children’s breakfast that I occasionally get and that includes Homuraisu(home rice) and various omelettes. If you don’t know what homuraisu is, you are missing out. It’s a popular dish in Japan and it’s very good! It’s rice mixed in with some ketchup-y sauce and egg over it. Kids love it. and adults usually continue to love what they loved in their childhood, so try it! [+1] Don’t question me about the spicy cod roe noodle. Just get it. Let yourself be wowed! Tip: They take card!
