Topsham Veterinary Wellness Center

I am so thankful to have found Topsham Veterinary Wellness Center. Dr. Amy has treated my pets for some complicated issues and always explains my options in detail. She is very knowledgable and she and her staff have always treated my pets, and me, with respect and kindness. I’ve been a pet owner for many years and there is no one that I would recommend more highly than Dr Amy.

My boyfriend and I discovered Dr. Amy’s office last March when we brought Sid Vicious, our Boston, in for his first vet visit. We have been hooked since. I used to bring my pug, Daisy, to another local vet and felt the same as one other reviewer. This other practice used to be small, caring and inviting but over the years they have become very large. You do get rushed out after you wait forever and when you walk to the «register» .ouch, it hurts everytime. They aren’t sympathetic and scold you when you don’t take the most expensive route of treatment planning.
Dr. Amy’s office is warm caring and inviting. She listens, explains and gives options without judging. Katie is awsome too. She is great at explaing things to my bf, who gets excited when it comes to his baby boy, Sid.
Another great thing about this office is the monthly pet plan. This has worked out great for us so that we can give our pets the best care without having a huge bill when walking out of their office.

My pets and I are thrilled to have found Dr. Amy (and we loooove Katie, her tech asst, too).
I left another local vet practice when my gut said that it wasn’t right. At the other place, I felt rushed and like just another paying client. The staff would abruptly slam doors behind them, scaring my cat throughout every visit… but that’s another Unilocal review. :)
When I checked out Dr. Amy’s practice, she and her two staff members were friendly, warm, and just plain happy to answer my questions. Once I brought my cat in, the contrast was marked: the exam rooms are welcoming and comfortable; Dr. Amy and Katie responded with care to my cat’s initial fear; and Dr. Amy even wiped her coat with Feliway to help my cat feel calm. (It worked. AMA-​zing. She’s a total Cat Whisperer.)
There was no clock-​watching or cash-​register-​ringing — just excellent, caring, professional care. At one point, Dr. Amy gave me a choice between 2 treatment options, explaining the pros and cons of each. I felt trusted, as though we were a team.
At one point I confessed to feeling guilty that I hadn’t brought my cat in soon enough (he’d had his rash for a few weeks). Dr. Amy said, «I don’t judge — I just educate.» She took the time to explain his issue, and answered all of my questions. (Not to belabor the point, but at the vet practice I left, the tech once criticized me openly for something that was not my fault.)
Thank you, Dr. Amy, for being so awesome! We’ll be seeing you for many years to come.

Just got back from an impromptu visit here. My dog had some health issues that were worrisome and I knew it would be busy elsewhere. The entire staff was focused and welcoming. They were professional but also had a sense of humor. It was a positive atmosphere for my nervous dog. The office dogs are also welcoming and sweet– unless you don’t want them, then they are discreet.
The doctor took a great deal of time to ensure the following
–That my dog was comfortable. She is old and nervous and was talked to at some length and treated gently and thoughtfully.
— That I understood a variety of options and possibilities. She was informative and educational with the subjects she covered.
— That I was a partner in my dog’s health and wellbeing.
— That follow up was not mandatory but they wanted to know how it all turned out– in other words I dd not feel a hard sell but rather a real interest.
I would recommend this new practice. Dr. Ruksnis was knowledgeable and pleasant and the prices were comprable to Androscoggin Vets and other places that I have been to. It is conveniently located and accessible.
