Great Mexican food. We had the bacon wrapped prawns and they were delicious with the homemade tortillas. We will be back.

Excellent, authentic restaurant. Prices were extremely reasonable. Both of our dishes were great — barabacoa and the chilaquiles. Would highly recommend it!

Wow, best Mexican food ever. Chicken mole and my wife had a killer shrimp and bacon dish. Warm homemade tortillas. Worth a stop.

Since my San Diego trip I haven’t tried this good Mexican food. This place is as good as the one I tried in San Diego. Tacos with home made tortillas are the best.

Great little family Mexican restaurant. My wife had tacos, they were small ones like you get at a taco truck made with diced beef, cabbage and cilantro on hand made tortillas. I had Biris? which reminded me of pot roast in a spicy red sauce with rice, beans, and superb flour tortillas. Also had a large glass of horchatta. Excellent meal for $ 21.

The best authentic Mexican restaurant in Toppenish, WA. The food, handmade tortillas and the salsa de molcajete are delicious. This family owned restaurant is hands down my favorite.

Second visit passing through with friends. Maybe even better than the first visit. The place has gone through a bit of a remodel since last time. Still homey and modest. Tons of locals eating there, but we had incredibly efficient, friendly and professional wait help. Everyone loved their meal. Such a great stop on the road. Well worth the visit. Highly recommended.

Pro: Nice. Nice people working there. The broth for the chili relleno soup was wonderful, spicy and rich. Con: The plain chili relleno that one of us ordered was greasy. The chicken was meager and bony. The mole sauce didn’t add up to a good mole. The horchata was a little overly sweet for my taste but some people might like it. The cinnamon gave it a nice bitter sweet aspect.

We rolled down to Toppenish at the recommendation of a friend to try Las Palomas(formerly La Petunia), and knew good things were in store when we were greeted by a chihuahua yapping at us in Spanish. At least I think it was Spanish. I speak a little Spanish, but the canine accent made it hard to be sure. Anyway, Las Palomas is a hybrid lunch counter/taqueria/convenience store. It’s not entirely clear if you order at the counter or sit down, but you can apparently do either. When we arrived around 11:30 we were the only group, but by noon the place was packed with patrons enjoying some hearty relatively authentic Mexican fare. It’s a little on the pricy side for what I was expecting(prices aren’t listed anywhere), but the plates were loaded up with more food than you should finish in one sitting. We split the coctel de camarones to start, and each had a different entrée. At my friend’s insistence I went with the mole de pollo, which was two large and tender pieces of on-the-bone chicken in a soupy sauce that must be a mole from part of Mexico I haven’t been to. It was clearly homemade, but lacked the robust earthiness I usually associate with mole. However, it was still fresh and flavorful with a nice spice character that was better suited to the beans and rice. Finish it all off with their self-serve housemade salsa picante in a big molcajete, a cold Jarritos or Negra Modelo, and a pack of cacahuates japones for the road, and you’ll be good to go. Las Palomas probably isn’t the best Mexican food in the Yakima valley, and it certainly isn’t the cheapest. But for a low key, satisfying lunch, I bet it will do the trick for you.

This restaurant is really like no other. It features home style Mexican food. Homemade tortillas are served with menu items. A variety of sauces are provided with the meals. I wish it was less than an hour away from the tri-cities. The atmosphere has been upgraded and is now much nicer. The food is literally awesome. Specials are also available. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Beer is available with meals. A must try for someone who enjoys the real thing.
