Visit the courthouse first, the BIrdcage Theater last and maybe throw in a trip to the OK Corral and you pretty much will have Tombstone covered. This state-run museum was the Cochise County Courthouse from the time it was built until the county seat was moved to more prosperous Bisbee. The exhibits go a long way to explaining the events that made Tombstone a legend. The price is reasonable($ 5), and the staff very helpful. When we were there, a young woman was offering a demonstration of the game of Faro. I wish we’d taken a few minutes to play, since this was the most popular gambling game of the time.

small old school courthouse packed with historia. this court is basically tombstone’s history, and cultural museum. it has it all. bunch of white dead peeps to gallows in the back. small gift store. i appreciated the bench(actual trial area) and judges’ study quarters. very fascinating. i would argue this is the most important visit in tombstone. small $ 5 charge to enter.

Lots of history here. The courthouse is very clean and well maintained. You can really learn a lot from all the artifacts they have on display. You can even get an upclose look at the gallows in the back. Yikes! One thing I would like to point out and to me this was very important and the reason for the fifth star. The bathrooms are the the best in Tombstone. They are extremely clean and don’t seem to be used often. They are located inside so you must have a ticket to use them. The could be considered one of the besy kept secrets in Tombstone.

The Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park is pretty amazing. The idea that, over 100 years ago, men were tried and hung from the gallows here is pretty gruesome. The museum is filled with law artifacts as well as other historical items from Tombstone’s history. It was raining when we walked up to the beautiful historic building, which really set the tone for what we were about to experience. The two-story building was built in 1882. It contains many offices, courtrooms and, of course, the legendary jail. One of the most interesting parts of the experience was visiting the gallows. This area has been reconstructed to give you an idea of what it would have looked like to horse thieves and other criminals in the final moments before they were hung. Chock-full of historic artifacts, the courthouse is, like many buildings in town, rich in history. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. We recommend you take the time to mosey on over and take it all in as you will be very glad you did!

Ok, so this is pretty cool. Although, I thought I would be just looking at court house treasure. They have remodeled some of rooms ti add things that have nothing to do with court house, jails, PA’s office, or sheriffs. What the museum could have use was an audio tour function. No guided tours or auto leaves you to fend.

Made for a nice destination in Tombstone when it was 48 outside and rain showers. So much information to read in a building that has been well restored. It is worth a visit and is time well spent for the $ 5 entry.

Beautiful Courthouse. You really get an idea that when the city was rapidly booming in the 1880’s, they built this impressive Courthouse with the expectation that Tombstone would continue to grow. Back then, Courthouse was very busy due to all the miner’s land claims.

They are doing some repair/restoration on the outside of the building, which is great to see history being maintained. The only downside of this was that it meant the gallows were closed, which was a major bummer. The Courthouse is packed with information, and really neat exhibits. There are tons of neat facts, and a really good historical overview of the town. Standing in the courtroom, you could practically feel the judge saying«I sentence you to be hung by the neck until DEAD, DEAD, DEAD! Over all, this tour was informative and fun, well worth it.

Tombstone is a oddly charming tourist stop that is part trap, part historical treasure. The gunfights, period costumes and hokey shops I can take or leave(mostly leave) but I really enjoyed the courthouse museum, dating way back to 1882. The museum is set in a two-story Victorian building housing fascinating tidbits on the hard-working folk who started this frontier gold-mining boom town. It doesn’t take long to get through, it’s an easy read and at around $ 5 bucks quite the bargain to boot.
