I have eaten in The Egg and I twice. The first time was when it had only been open for a short time. The food was OK. The second time we went was for breakfast it was not a very good experience because they were very short staffed it took forever to get our food. Today we tried one final time to eat here we did not even get seated. It was 10:30am which is well after the breakfast rush, we walked in most of the tables had not even been cleared and the hostess said it would be a 5 to 10 min. wait we turned around and walked out. I don’t know how this place stays open.

Slow service. Obviously short of help, Greeter/hostess was cleaning tables. Omelet was scorched on the edges. It took so long to get it, I was not about to send it back.

Poor poor poor service. It’s been like this for at least 2 years so it’s unlikely to change.

Came here for brunch with my daughter as my car was being serviced ¾ mile away and was a little apprehensive after reading the reviews… Boy did they miss the mark, we were met immediately at the door and seated, in a fairly packed place. Was greeted promptly by our server Erica, and had our food, hot and delish, within 15 minutes. My omelette looked so awesome I started to take a picture, but it didn’t last long enough… Very pleased with this place, and will definitely make a trip to this side of town, with this place our destination.,

Excellent little breakfast place that serves delicious fluffy omelettes, and tangy hollandaise. I get the Texas skillet. Which is a skillet platter with steak, green and red peppers, potatoes, topped with cheddar jack cheese and sunny side up eggs. It is a perfect combination with the richness of the egg yolk to cut the salt of the cheese and the steak.

Great food, poor service. Waitress forgot our table and to place our food order. Never came to check. When the food came, one plate was still missing and one order wrong. All other tables had food. Food was delicious.

Went for brunch about 2 weeks ago. I would say that most of the reviews are pretty spot on. Nothing to rant about here. I had the corned beef. While the flavor was pretty good, it was just a bit dry. Staff was ok, not outstanding. One thing that really stood out to me was that the coffee is some of the worst I have had. Needed to put an extra creamer in just to make it nearly tolerable. I am certainly not a coffee snob but, I would rather have just filled a mug at the closest gas station and brought that with me. I’d really only go back if everything else had a wait to get in… which is how I ended up here the first time.

The restaurant is half full and we’ve been here an HOUR and still don’t have our food. We have a tired and fussy 9 month old. Waitress has come by two times to apologize for the wait. Last time we came the same thing happened. This will be the last time we come. This place used to be packed but no longer. Service us the due t result of the empty restaurant.

I have eaten at every egg and I in Houston… at least once, some many, many times. I am not sure what is going on at this location but I was incredibly disappointed. Let’s start with. .soup. no soup. At 12:30. Sold out I’m told. Why? Because instead of two soups a day like normal, someone made only one. Ok. So I ordered a chicken sandwich. I’m told it will take 12 minutes to come out because the chicken takes 7 to cook. ???so what’s happening with the other 5 minutes? Not that 12 minutes is terribly long to wait for food, just found it odd. Salad comes out and my balsamic dressing is… chunky. weird. Unappetizing. Chicken sandwich comes out and bun and bacon are burnt completely black. Yes they actually served it to me like that. Where is the honey mustard you ask that was supposed to be on my chicken sandwich??? yes we are out of that. Manager did go back and make some honey mustard as well as remade my sandwich, AND gave me vaucher for $ 10 for return visit. I do appreciate how well he clarified the problem.

Very poor service. Extremely slow, I was seated and after 5 minutes of nobody asking for my drink in an empty restaurant I walked out. They need to close this location it’s an embarrassment to their name.

Terrible! Told the wait time to be seated was 25minutes. Then we found out why. It took 13 minutes for the waitress to acknowledge our presence. Another 10 minute wait to place our order, and another 20+ before we left without eating. Our waitress was wandering around like a zombie, and her other tables were getting incomplete orders as well. This was our second time at an Egg & I. We’re done.

Not a very friendly place. Some of the employees are nice. Some are just doing their job. Not worried about that. Food was decent but nothing to rave about. Would I return. Not 100% sure on that

Don’t waste your time or money. Service was slow. The waitress did not ask what side we wanted. When the food finally arrived, the potatoes tasted like they were sitting out for three days. We asked for something different. But apparently it’s to difficult to slap some grits in a bowl. The waitress said she would talk to the manager and then disappeared. After 10 minutes we asked for the bill. Another six minutes pass and she shows up with the bill and said the manager would come out. We waited and still no manager so we paid the bill(wish I hadn’t). As we left we saw the manager siting down enjoying lunch. So he obviously didn’t care enough to resolve the problem and was perfectly happy to waste our time.

Worth it just for the hot sauce. No kidding«Yi-Yi» they call it and it is specific to Egg & I. Delicious. Having said that, the food falls a little flat in the flavor department. Corned Beef Hash is good; Greek Salad is good; Rueben sandwich is ok. The main problem is the frozen, highly processed meat selection and crappy thin bacon. Today I tried a new meat choice: Chicken Apple sausage; STAYAWAY. Dog food at best, but good luck getting your dog to eat it, mine wouldn’t. Food is better at this location than at the Louetta location. Service… not so much. The only reason to go to an Egg & I is for the variety of coffee flavors, but if it’s good food you’re after you’d be better off going a few miles south to Another Broken Egg Café.

I’m a huge Brunch lover. This place opened up in May based on its sign. I walked in about an hour before they closed and honestly I thought I would be greeted with the stereotypical«we close soon attitude» but they were very nice. I actually worked on some editing until 2:10(they close at 2) and they didn’t say a thing. I had the veggie egg Benedict absolutely delicious! good food and good service. Maybe I caught them on a good day. I will be going back today. We will see if this review gets updated. It looks like some other people had different experiences.

Burned toast and slow service was the start of our Saturday morning thanks to our decision to stop off at the Egg and I for breakfast. The 249 location is much better.

The food was fine, but I was definitely offended by the hostess(older woman with dark hair) who commented to one of her waitstaff that«she needed to start charging rent» to some of the customers who had been sitting at tables obviously for too long in her eyes. I was sitting right in front of them at my booth trying to get a little work in on my computer after finishing up my breakfast. Half the restaurant was empty… Sounds like customers aren’t really appreciated. We should all eat our food quickly and get out. I would say the hostess, who may very well be the owner, needs an etiquette refresher. Thank goodness for your Free WiFI, I was able to write this review while I sit in your restaurant!

My family ate here for breakfast and we really enjoyed is, service was pretty good, I think our server was just a little tired, but it was better than average. The food was great! My sister and I had the Belgian eggs press and it was delicious, my eggs were not how i asked them to be cooked but I overlooked it because the waffle was AWESOME! My brother had the pancake flapper, and the pancake was as big as the plate, I would guess about a foot in diameter! Overall a great atmosphere, it’s not to loud it’s clean and the food and service are great.

I went for my first time and was very pleased. I ordered carryout for a friend and I, and our sandwiches were wonderful. I had the soup as well, which was also good. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. I did have the sensation that many of the staff were new to food service, but all seemed very willing to find senior staff to help with questions. I’m excited to go back for breakfast! Tip– Call ahead if you are considering carry-out…the restaurant definitely caters to a sit down crowd. It took as long to get my order as a regular sit down meal, but I had not called ahead, so, that’s on me. My only complaint would be that the food seemed a bit over priced, but that won’t deter me from returning.
