Shorty’s True American Roadhouse

After searching Unilocal for places to eat figured we try this spot. We arrived early around 5 not to packed and greeted and sat right away. Ordered the sampler app to get a sample of a few things it was very tasty and good flavor. I had the brisket and minced pork. The brisket was thick cut and good smokey taste. The pork was ok, kinda fatty for my liking. Tried the bar b q chicken not to dry great taste. They have there signature sauce on the table to add as much as u like. A lot of resturant these days don’t sell beef ribs but the do! They are flint stones style! Definitely will return and try more!

Oh my and wow! I travel for a living and eat out all the time. This place is amazing! I will definitely be back. The price of food is way too cheap for the flavor. Best salmon and Mac and cheese I’ve had in awhile. The corn bread… Wow

Went to shorty’s for my boyfriend’s birthday! The food was amazing! The ribs were falling off the bones! They even gave him a free slice of cheesecake at the end! Definitely will be going back there very soon!

Wow is all I can say about this spot. Amazing ribs and brisket. Old school smoke house with great protein options and sides. I had the beef ribs and brisket combo with 2 sides. My wife went with the glazed salmon salad. Everything was great including the service. We did call ahead and they had call ahead seating that was also a nice perk. Our waitress Marlene was on point and made great suggestions since it was our first time.

First time I ate here I enjoyed my Boss Hawa sandwich. I returned and got a chicken sandwich and was disappointed, very tough chicken and not seasoned at all. And the men’s room reeked, almost made me gag. Stopped back today for the third time. Unfortunately my sandwich was unable to be picked up to be eaten the bottom bun was so soft and soggy it fell apart. Waited 10 minutes for my waitress to return to tell her. She started with, well the coleslaw is wet. No the coleslaw was on top. Left without eating I won’t be back.

Awesome place! Talk about busy. We had to wait for a table to over an hour, but it was worth the weight. Just the smell of the bbq made the time pass even faster. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar and had a couple drinks. The beer selection was not good, but at least there were a couple of offerings that were good to choose from.
Prices are actually pretty good considering how much food they give you. I got the combo platter of brisket and pulled pork. It came with two sides. Food taste was good. Like how they have extra bbq sauce at the table as there wasn’t enough on the pulled pork to begin with. Both the pulled pork and brisket came on a thick «toast.» Great flavor.
When in Toledo again, I will be sure to talk people into going here. Our group of 6 enjoyed ourselves for sure.

Really disappointing. The brisket was dry and had no flavor. The cornbread was cold. Their sauces lacked flavor too. The prices here are way too high for how little flavor is on their food. Go to Backyard BBQ or Famous Dave’s. They are both way better.

We returned after an invite from the owner. I ordered the ribs again, with fried and beans. My wife ordered the brisket with potato salad and beans. The ribs were definitely better than the last time, though I feel just a touch under the quality of first time I ate here, but not by much. The fries were nicely cooked and the beans were good, though I saved most of them to eat at their peak, cold and a day old. I dipped everything in the spicy BBQ sauce provided at the table, as it was really good.
My wife said the brisket was good, but lacking in smoke flavor. She liked the potato salad and beans, with good reviews.
I didn’t try the perch this time to see if it improved from my last visit, so I can’t comment on that.
Our server, Lisa, was very good and provided the best service we have had at this location. She was worth a star on her own.

You should avoid this restaurant. It’s a rare miss from the Mancy’s group.
The good:
Chili, chopped salad, pulled pork, green beans. The ambiance and layout of the play are fine, and there is ample parking. Service was very friendly; but friendly doesn’t necessarily mean good.
The bad:
Cornbread tastes like a cupcake with corn flavoring. It’s incredibly sweet, and very off putting. The beef brisket had very little smoke flavor, no smoke ring at all, and was not seasoned well. The chicken wings were standard Frank’s and butter, and very small. The ribs were not tender. The iced tea was weak. Service was very friendly, but committed one of the most egregious restaurant sins — bringing the entrees before the soups/​starters were finished, thereby leaving us scrambling to find room on our 4-​top for all the plates at once.
In summary:
The other Mancy’s restaurants are great across the board, but this one misses the mark by a wide margin. This isn’t the BBQ you’re looking for.

Me and my family tried this place for the first time after hearing rave reviews and they were right! We only had a 10 minute wait for our table. The bar tender was very nice and fast with our drinks. The service was amazing, the food took all of 5 minutes to come out. The server recommended the 2 – 3 person feast (we had 4 people in our party but it could have fed 5 people easily! We had so much left over!) the food was amazing and it was all very inexpensive. We will defiantly be back!

Wanted some good grub, looked on Unilocal since we was in the area for hockey tournament.
Walked in and they put us at a table right away.
Orders the Memphis Egg Rolls for app and they was awesome!
I ordered the beef brisket, pulled pork and BBQ chicken with slaw and pickles.
All was the best BBQ I’ve had and would definitely recommend it for anybody who likes BBQ.

Decent barbecue but so not worth the wait. We came at 2:00pm, were seated at 2:50pm, ordered shortly after being seated, and got our food at 3:50pm. Ridiculous. Corn muffins were the best part of the meal.

Always get great food and service. I am eating Memphis egg rolls as my entrée. Cannot get enough of them ! Never disappointed with them. I add some sweet bbq sauce to the boss hog sauce ! Yummy ! 5 stars is the most I can give or I would give more !!!

My boyfriend and I went here for his birthday last night and needless to say we were very impressed. One, service and staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and efficient. Two, the décor of the place is tasteful and not cluttered. The open kitchen is nice and the bar area is really unique. We were seated right by the central fireplace. At first, we were really surprised to see how small of a dining area there was inside since the outside made it look so large, but it wasn’t a bad thing by any means.
We decided to call ahead for our seating and it was a good thing we did. Once 7pm rolled around, the wait was already 25 mins… ON A WEEKNIGHT. So a note next time, always call ahead just to be safe. We ordered the Memphis Egg Rolls and died and went to heaven. It was nothing short of delicious. So many flavors and not greasy at all. And the Boss Hog sauce is amazing. I wish we could buy it in bottles. My boyfriend ordered the brisket platter and I ordered the house steak cooked medium rare. It was definitely medium rare and my sides of mac and cheese and green beans were amazing. My boyfriend’s dish was equally as great. We were too full to finish our dishes, but we’re very happy having these leftovers today. Thanks so much Shorty’s!

My boyfriend and I have been to this restaurant a couple of times lately, we really like it! The service is friendly, and the food comes out very fast. The pulled pork is delicious, and the portions are generous. My boyfriend loves the ribs. The meals are very inexpensive: it’s hard to believe this restaurant is owned by the Mancy’s restaurant group! Then again, the food is so delicious, it must be owned by the Mancy’s restaurant group! :-)

The ONLY reason this is a 2 star is because the service was very good! The food is less than stellar. The ribs tasted like kerosene or burnt gas, brisket we think either never spent anytime in a smoker or was beef chuck. It fell apart like chick and had some fatty pieces. Hubby had the perch not bad, but over battered and over fried.
Salad, string beans, coleslaw and mac & cheese were all good. If you want BBQ go someplace else. If you want perch, and this is the only place you can get to. Order it. It’s not great — but it’s ok.

Fantastic! From the moment we walked in, we were well taken care of. Not a bad thing on the menu, lovely smokey smell throughout restaurant and fantastic service. Well done! A well deserved 5 star review!

I have been craving Shorty’s for quite some time now and finally went last night. We got there around 6:15 and we’re seated immediately. I’m glad we got there when we did because it started to fill up right after that. We chose the Memphis egg rolls as an appetizer and were not disappointed at all. For dinner I got the smokehouse salad with pulled pork and he got a combo plate of brisket and pulled pork which came with two sides.
Our food came out within just a few minutes as our waitress told us she would put our order in ahead of a larger table’s so we wouldn’t have to wait too long. This was a great idea and very much appreciated. Everything was just as I had hoped for. Food was excellent and even though I was full, I kept going because let’s face it, salads are no good as leftovers. The bill came and was only $ 42 which is really good considering how much food was actually on our table.
Shorty’s does not disappoint and I know I will be back again very soon.

We loved this place. Loved. The only reason to complain, really would have been the wait to get seated and then to get our food after we ordered. But once the food came, we forgot about all of that… because it was so delicious. My husband and son had all things BBQ and wanted more. I am Paleo and they more than accommodated me. I got the veggie skewers with a side baked potato plain, green beans and a plain, grilled chicken breast for protein. Our plates were cleared. So delicious. We will definitely go again when we are back in town.
