Macs N’ Melts

I am not a «5 star» reviewer, so to give 5 stars says something.
First of all the price is not bad; 6 – 13 bucks an order. This is not McDonalds or KFC. If you want a bargain meal go there. Somehow on Unilocal it’s says this place is 11 – 30? No. Macs or Melts start at 6.00÷7.00 bucks about and goes up from there. It’s only 3.00 bucks to make it a combo. 10.00 bucks for a combo meal? Again this is not MsDonalds, so why expect McDonald prices?
Next the décor is gorgeous. I’m a big city gal, who visits family often in the area. Totally love the industrial look, makes me forget I’m in Toledo.
Portions are big. Let’s start with how America has been fooled to think a good portion=¾ meals. Go to a buffet if you want those kind of portions. As a health and fitness nut, a health and weight management coach I can easily look at a meal and know what the calorie content is. Those sandwiches are anywhere from 500‑1000 calories, you need more? No no, you really don’t.
Non gmo and locally sourced foods. I’m sorry most Toledo (ans) don’t get how amazing this is. «Food» these days is poison and NOT even actual food but chemical concoctions. I for one am thankful I can go someplace and know I’m eating something that’s not going to cause a chronic illness that I could’ve prevented.
AMAZING SERVICE! There were a couple of young, very sweet girls working this place. They explained the menu, were pleasant and helpful. After reading these reviews I could see why they were very thankful I was patient with them. The world doesn’t end if you have to «wait» for a meal. Nowhere in their advertising do they say they are a Chipotle line service, so if you want to assume that – okay?
VEGAN AND GLUTEN FREE MAC THATS YUMMMM! I love cheese and gluten, but it doesn’t love me. Very happy to have a place that caters to my dietary needs. They made fresh vegan cheese for my Mac, which I was very happy about. It took some extra «time» but whatever?
I hope this place does well and markets to the small group who understands the importance of non gmo foods.

The Mac n Cheese is worth it. I’m lactose intolerant and this place is worth the pain. Yummy and bubbly in my tummy. Decent portion. Decent price. Fast service. Only suggestion would be to have staff be more helpful with new customers. When we said we’d never been there the staff pointed at the big hanging menu and said, «Mac’s are macaroni n cheese and Melts are grilled cheese». My wife and I discussed what was what on the menu using questions like,“I wonder what that is” as we received a blank and impatient stare from the staff. Luckily no one was behind us in line.

Ate here last week when in town for business. Lunch was much better than expected. High quality ingredients and hand made prep while I waited. I got the Farmers Market, and asked for chicken on it as well. No problem, and delicious. Due to hand preparation, it took a little while, but worth the wait. I’ll be back. Oh, and the side of their classic Mac n cheese was a great addition — also better than average.

Came back a second time. Ordered the three cheese mac with short ribs. Was not good. At all. Meat was more like ground beef. Macaroni was very bland… no discernible cheese taste. Didn’t even smell all that fantastic. I did like putting the cole slaw ON the mac because it gave it some crunch and a little flavor, but was not the best cole slaw ever. The Wixey bakery cupcake was good. Husband’s potato cheese soup was grainy, rather than smooth. We were the only customers. Three wait staff, one attentive and friendly, one was rather shy and quiet, and one was very loud and opinionated on everything. Two TVs going on regular shows, but also had loud music playing. Won’t be back

I haven’t tried their melts yet but the mac and cheese is pretty good. I’m rather picky with mac and cheese and thought they had nice options. It was a generous portion and I was pleased with my service. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and I rather enjoyed the environment and design of the place. While it’s very industrial, it’s kind of like hipster mac and cheese, so I can’t complain. At least it’s not filthy or cluttered.

Horrible! It was our first time there and I will never go back. We spent 25 bucks for 2 adults and a toddler. My sandwich was not worth 9 dollars. Everything was just thrown on. My husbands Mac and cheese was bland. We waited 20 minutes to get our food because the workers talked to each other the entire time. The lay out was horrible. You grab a ticket and walk it to the register who just happened to be the girl who took my order. One little hole for a trash. One table to use a high chair for. Very disappointed.

This is my first time trying this place. IT’S PHENOMENAL!!! If you are in the Toledo area this is a must try. You won’t be disappointed and the meal is worth every penny!!! I had the «comfort» which is a grilled cheese with bacon cheddar and tomatoes as well as the blt Mac n cheese. Loved them both!!! However the real win is the service you get while you’re there. They treat you like you’re at a 5 star restaurant and always serve you with a smile! When I asked where I should throw my trash away they told me «we’ll take care of it, we want to make your life easier…» How can you not love a place like that??? The restaurant itself is clean as well as the restrooms. Germaphobe approved

Way over priced. The service was not at all that great, the food was just okay. The wait time was long and the seats by the windows are not made to sit in. I ordered the short rib mac and cheese, it was on the dry side flavor was kinda plan. I also ordered a side of slaw, I order slaw every place that offers it. It was by far the worst I have ever had, it tastes like cabbage soaked in vinegar horrible. I have to say the price, service and product serviced will make me a one time only visitor.

Not only did I have to wait in line for 15 minutes while waiting for my food, there were at least 8 people who walked through the doors and walked right back out after looking through the menu.
After reviewing the sandwich and Mac and cheese, we sat down and looked at our serving portions. For around 21 dollars, it looked like I just walked put of a gas station for 4 dollars.
The sandwich had no BBQ sauce, tasted of only pickles and coleslaw, and the Mac and cheese was watery and funky.
Disappointed? That’s an understatement.

The restaurant’s layout is indeed a bit awkward. The theme/​décor is too industrial/​cold for a place that specializes in homey, casual foods like mac’n cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches.
As to the actual food, it was good but not great. I genuinely don’t think it’s awfully overpriced but they could consider offering better deals.
My husband and I split a grilled cheese combo meal and a mac and we found the portions to be very filling.
The four cheese mac was pretty good, very cheesy.
Tried the farmer’s grilled sandwich and thought it was too plain. Had the combo with potato and cheese soup, the soup was too garlicky.
So overall, there is some potential to this place but it definitely could use some improvements.

Dont waste your money. This place is ridiculously expensive. I thought well ok the macaroni must be amazing. I ordered the four cheese mac waited 10 minutes with no one there, to long. Got my macaroni small portion and no cheese it was dry and terrible. Dissapointed

The Mac n cheese dishes were phenomenal. I personally got one of the short rib sandwiches with a side of pasta salad. The sandwich was just ok for me and the pasta salad, for a cost of three dollars, was literally 4 bites. Moral of story, stick with the various Mac n cheese dishes and you won’t be disappointed.

This restaurant has a great, seemingly fool proof concept until you actually go there. The execution is so poor. For starters the layout of the restaurant is so awkward you would think it was designed for a completely different restaurant then at the last minute they changed to the format they have now. When you walk in it looks like a chipotle or piada type restaurant, but you get to the end of the counter, place your order, pay, then go sit and wait ~10 minutes. So it’s not fast causal, I guess it’s slow casual?
My sandwich, the blue buffalo, tasted great. But for $ 8.50, the contents were incredibly light. I’m fine with the price point if they add like, twice as much content to the sandwiches. Everyone in the kitchen looked frazzled, and I saw several sandwiches get completely burnt, including the sandwich of one of the people I was with.
Overall, I was really disappointed but I think I’d be willing to try again, maybe in a month or two and hopefully by then this place has a better workflow and a better sense of what kind of restaurant they are.

Really good! Really tasty sandwiches made to order with great fresh and local ingredients. Genius. Well mabye not genius… but well conceived and well executed. Will definately be a regular here.

I debated whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. You are going to pay about 50 percent more here for your food than other fast food places, and their seats, which look like they are made from the same plastic used in playground equipment, are off-​putting. But then, I read the info on their wall. They give 5 percent of your purchase to local charities. All their foods are artisan/​GMO-​free/​local. So there is a reason for the higher price tag.
Also, the grilled cheese I had (I opted for «The Comfort» which has bacon and tomato in it) as well as the tomato soup were excellent.
And service was fast, friendly, and accurate. If you can see this as The Five Guys of Grilled Cheese and Mac n Cheese, you will probably be able to overlook the bare bones digs and dent in your bank account.
