The food is simple greasy spoon fare. Nothing is going to blow you away but good, cheap diner food in a bare bones authentic setting. I appreciate their rough around the edges, we don’t give a crap we are going to do things our way type of attitude. Seemed like a lot of regulars, a dude name Mo walked in that knew everyone, I assume he was the owner. He was rather funny and the place seemed to be a reflection of his personality.

This place thankfully has nothing to do with the disappointing 2011 film«The Green Lantern» starring Ryan Reynolds. Where that film had an incoherent plot and bad casting, this place has delicious, cheap breakfast and other great diner grub. Hidden in a slightly dumpy section of downtown, I was absolutely shocked at how inexpensive my great lunch was. Way, way cheaper than fast food, and way, way better than anything you would get at a drive-in burger joint. Get the Swiss and mushroom burger — you can thank me later.

I can’t believe I’ve never been here before. I have a soft spot for nostalgic affordable breakfast joints and have been on the search for such a one in Toledo. Michigan has spoiled me with the over abundance of coney islands with personality and perfectly cooked eggs and up until today, I enjoyed some good local diners but in Green Lantern I finally have found my one true love. She is covered in graffiti and isn’t fancy but damn, does she make a hell of a good burger. I ordered a cup of coffee and was served a huge cup of medium roast joe. It wasn’t high end but it hit the spot. The server then asked if we had questions, which is a standard question as the burgers have interesting names but no descriptions. She explained that a Handy Andy is a double cheeseburger with mayo, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles and lettuce; the goopie is a single sausage patty, and so on. It sounds like she has to explain it a few times a day as I heard others ask too. I ordered a bowl of chili($ 2.25) and Handy Andy($ 5.25). Like the restaurant, the chili was basic in appearance but exceptional in flavor. I could barely wrap my mouth around the burger. It reminded me of a burger you’d get at a neighborhood bbq where the grill master of the block was in charge of the Weber. The lettuce was crisp and cold and the American cheese was melted and oozed perfection. It was a beautiful mess. I already know what I want to try next — egg and cheese sandwich which the table next to us ordered and a side of the chili again.

Green lantern is home of the best breakfast and burgers in town. I have been going there for 35 years all started by my dad. Originally owned by a guy from Port Clinton but Mo has owned it for quite awhile now. The original burgers all included relish and now I love all my burgers with relish.

The Green Lantern has one of the best burgers in town. I love the way they season their beef. Just had a Handy Andy for lunch and it really hit the spot. I called ahead for pick-up and they had it ready in about ten minutes. I’ve gotta get down there for breakfast one of these days.

Typical diner. I ordered their famous burgers and it was decent. I guess you could make the same thing in your backyard without the hassle of going downtown to eat.

My favorite spot when visiting my hometown. While this place has been updated it still retains some simple menu items with nice and diverse customer base. Definitely a great place to stop by for a meal but remember they close at 2 so it will have to be breakfast or lunch only.

Excellent old school burgers at a great price. The green lantern is a throwback to the old non corporate restaurants. The owner«mo» cooks and always keeps you abreast of the latest political banter.

Like many of the hidden gems in Toledo, i passed by the Green Lantern 100 million times before giving it a second glance. I’m glad i did though! It’s a little rough on the outside, but it’s what’s on the flat top that counts. They serve up a mean patty melt — though I hear the Goopie Burger is amazing too. If you’re looking for quick, classic diner fare downtown, definitely check it out.

What on earth is wrong with me? This place opened up in 1927, has been owned and operated by the same family the entire time, and it took me until today to check it out? Seriously? Am I insane? I must be, because the Green Lantern kills it when it comes to classic american cuisine. And yes, I’m using the word cuisine to refer to onion rings and sausage burgers. For lunch today, I had the«double goopie» which … well… isn’t the most appetizing name for a sandwich. But good lord was it tasty. I got an egg added to the top, which our server said was a common addition. It had no condiments to distract you from the flavor of sausage, american cheese and the crispy buttered and grilled hamburger bun. Honestly, the egg was an unnecessary distraction and I won’t get it next time. Everyone at the table loved the chili cheese fries I ordered, and my wife’s onion rings were out of control. Crispy, greasy and filled with the taste of sweet scalding hot onion. My friend tried the vanilla shake, even though one of the customers that was walking out while we ordered insisted she go with chocolate. After one sip she exclaimed«this tastes like I’m eating a fucking fluffy cloud.» I would declare you can’t get more bang for your buck in the area. Great greasy food, friendly service and an old school Toledo atmosphere unlike anywhere else.

Don’t be afraid of the exterior(or the interior, for that matter). If you want a awesome double cheeseburger, for practically free, try the Handy Andy(pictured). If you want a breakfast burger, try the Double Goopie, or the Humpty Dumpty. The burgers are typically served well done, but Mo will cook them any way you specify. The fries are crispy outside and soft inside, just like they are supposed to be. The milk shakes are also great. The crowd here is pretty eclectic, and the owner is a trip, too. Bang for your buck? Oh HELL yeah. During the times of my life that I’ve lived away from Toledo, this is one of the places that I truly missed.
