Very nice little store run, by friendly folk, with many local products, not just maple syrup!

Just Maple gives a great tour and explanation of how maple syrup is made. Barbara, the co-owner, kept my 16 and 14 year old engaged for an hour explaining and showing how maple sap is collected, how the sap is boiled, the various grades and types of syrup. Barbara gives a good tour, to the point but explanative, and keeps it moving. She’s down to earth and shares what it’s like to run a small business. Yes, you do get to test and there are some samples. Just Maple is very focused on the syrup making and offers relevant products — they’re not into lots of cutesy and corny stuff. The show you the sugar house, an unvarnished shed and their equipment so you really see what goes on at a family sized sugaring operation. They operate in the few thousands gallons of sugar annually so there are larger, more complex sugar houses to see elsewhere. To get there, call Barbara for the most direct directions. They are past the Tilton School, a private boarding academy. The tour is free but you ought to buy something. You probably will as the syrup is far more flavorful that commercially available syrup. We regularly use maple syrup and are into cooking.
