In preparation for Ms. K.‘s and my trip to Aruba in August/September, we figured we would try and get a decent base so we don’t fry the living bejeezus out of ourselves when we get down there so close to the equator. Yes, I know all about how bad it is for me. Yes, I know about skin cancer, wrinkles, etc., etc. But I figure going fake-baking for several weeks is a better alternative than getting horribly sunburned(yes, I know about sunscreen; yes, I hate it; yes, it’s a pain in my ass to keep on). This is one of two(?) options for tanning in Tillamook. A couple of Ms. K.‘s friends go here, so we thought we’d give it a try. 100 minutes for $ 20. Actually $ 22 now(thanks federal government!). Seems like a decent price. I have been to two other tanning places in my life(one in Walla Walla, WA and the other in Winston-Salem, NC), and I got pretty spoiled with stand-up tanners with super powerful bulbs. Sunset Tans has six(?) normal tanning beds. But, as my mother always told me, beggars can’t be choosers, so… Ms. K. has found that some beds seem to be hotter than others. I surmise it’s because some have newer bulbs than others, but who knows for sure. Oh yeah, they also have a(single) nail station. All in all I would say about average. Normally, I think this would be a 3-star place, but two things bring me to a four: first, Karen, the owner is super nice and friendly; and second, Karen has her dog, Ray with her in the salon every day. He’s super cool, so four stars.
