Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies

This research facility is quite impressive for a California State University institution. This powerhouse of aquatic research is a nursery for producing some of the best marine and freshwater biologists/​oceanographers in the Bay Area. Keep up the good work.

There is this incredible research facility in our midst that most folks don’t even know is here.
The history of this amazing facility is so extensive that you will need to go to the website to begin to understand it. Here are some of the highlights:
* 1877 a codfish processing plant
* 1900 Navy ship coaling system
* 1930 reelling cables for GG bridge building
* 1931 California Nautical Training School
* WWII Navy constructed anti-​submarine & anti-​torpedo nets
* WWII Navy Net Depot layed a 7 mile long net across Bay entrance
* 1958 Department of Commerce
* 1960 National Marine Fisheries Service SW Fisheries Center
* 1973 NMFS consolidated to 10 acres
* 1977 Marine Laboratory dedicated to the study of San Francisco Bay

This scientific research facility includes a Conference Center and Guest Center situated on 32 breathtaking bayfront acres just outside the Town of Tiburon.
