I really have no idea why this place has so few stars… came here on Saturday for dinner and had an amazing experience. Drinks were great, service was on point, view spectacular, and there was no wait. We absolutely loved the Terre de Mar(likely spelled wrong but it was a surf n’ turf combo). We especially loved the mojo de ajo sauce that came on the steak and shrimp… so we ordered an extra side and some more shrimp. Definitely planning to return here on our next excursion out of the city.

My best friend Kat and I had a quick bite to eat and enjoyed the view of my beloved hometown San Francisco.(I have to admit I was enjoying the view of the beautiful blonde dinning with me.) The Top Shelf Magarita and Quesadilla were excellent. Far above your avarge Mexican restaurant.

The food was great but the service, no Bueno. Party of 2. 1) They did not offer us happy hour prices just because we were sitting out in the patio facing ferries but not inside their closed lounge space — this reason alone, I would have given a 3.5−4 star but the best part comes next 2) bill was 67 $ and I paid in 80 $ cash and we keep on waiting at the table for change back for a while, when the time to board the ferry came up we had to go to the waiter and ask about the change situation. The reply was startling — «Do you want your change?» Me:(duh) yeah !!! Don — the waiter: «How much do you want back?» Seriously !!! You decide how much of my money you want to give me back??? I’m happy to pay the tip once I get the change back but keeping the whole change of 13USD as if I owe’em all is kinda nasty !!! #NoBuenoGuaymas

Stopped here for a quick drink before catching the ferry and the experience started out pretty poor. Before I get to that, the atmosphere of this place is great — right on the water and *right* next to the ferry terminal(so if you’re about to catch a ferry, this is a perfect spot to grab one last drink before heading out). I got a margarita and an appetizer, both of which were what you’d expect at a bar with Mexican food. Normally I would have given a place like this 3 stars, but the way we were treated when we walked in was subpar at best. We asked the hostess if we could sit outside and grab a drink and an appetizer. She told us we can only sit out there if we get an entire meal. I guess I sort of see the logic? Reserving tables for those paying more? But, there were at least 20 tables completely open, and stayed open the entire time we were there. If we weren’t persistent, and left, they would have lost an easy $ 100 for someone occupying a table that would have never been filled. Spoke with the manager as we left, who apologized, which was great, but something that should be addressed given their location and popularity of sitting outside in a place like Tiburon. Anyhow, like I said, if you’re looking for something quick before you board the ferry, check this place out. :)

Update 6÷8÷16. Reviewed by Chronicle today. They slammed them as well they should have. Tiburon should feel disgraced for having a horrible restaurant for their visitors. Guess it is between Guaymas and the landlord, but Intervention is necessary!

The food is really good, but the waiters are so rude and unprofessional. They followed us to the door and demanded a bigger tip and wouldn’t allow us to leave until we payed more. My uncle offered his card and they said they couldn’t accept card anymore and he had no more cash with him so there was no other way for him to pay. Then my other uncle comes and gives them $ 70 more dollars and they STILL say they want MORE. I have honestly never been so disrespected in my life and we will never be going there again.

Paying for the view! You cannot beat the view of the SF Bay right at the ferry stop — so the restaurant is a great place for a quick bite if you’re catching the ferry home from the city. It has a nice vibe — relaxed but still a step(or 2) up from your average Mexican haunt. The food is on the pricey side although they do have some more unusual regional Mexican dishes. We found the service to be fair.

Had lunch the other day with my friend. The place down the street had an hour wait and we didn’t want to wait. This place has a great backyard patio deck where you can sit and enjoy the views and weather. Best part of the place and experience! The food was flavorless. I ordered a spicy(allegedly) dish AND asked for additional heat and I received no flavor or heat. The service was ok — nothing excellent or bad. Even my friend did not like her salad. She added strips of steak/beef and it was dry and hard to chew. I recommend only coming here for drinks on the deck and avoid the food altogether.

Had lunch here with friends and drop $ 200+. We enjoyed the food and view. But I accidentally forgot my jacket there 30min after I drove back home in the East Bay. When called the restaurant the host answered. She was curt, rude, and hung up the phone on me. After calling back, she gave me attitude and did half ass job of «looking for my jacket in the lost and found». I will NEVER eat here again or recommend this place bc of the rude customer service!

Note to self don’t come back after two bad experiences. The beef I added to my tostada salad was so hard and dry! The salad was just limp and sad. Calamari was meh. The best thing was the fresh margarita the patio seating and chips and salsa

Do(s): carnitas, cochinita pibil, or carne asada platos Don’t(s): guacamole, chile relleno, margaritas I’d love to give this place 4stars because their carnitas, cochinita pibil, and carne asada were quite good(good flavor, not dry, not overly salty). And there is a nice view if you sit outside. BUT the margaritas were watered down and lacking alcohol(big mistake), and the service was spotty. So 3stars.

I can’t wait to go back! I absolutely loved this place. Guaymas has delicious food and excellent service. I made reservations for a Friday night and when my friend and I arrived we were seated by the window. It was a gorgeous view! Thanks to our hostess. :) Our server Freddy was great. He was very polite and attentive. He also gave great recommendations. He brought us tortilla chips and salsa immediately after we were seated. The salsa had a nice kick to it, not too spicy but quite tasty! For appetizers we ordered calamari and ceviche. The calamari was really crispy and the batter is to die for. I highly recommend the calamari. The ceviche was also really good. I’m not sure what type of fish was used for the ceviche but I ate it with the tortilla chips and slices of avocado. All the flavors complimented one another. For drinks we had the Dave’s Margarita. Very refreshing! And it was not too sweet. Gave me a nice buzz so I know they were not skimpy with the alcohol. As for the main course I ordered the Chicken Cacahuate. The dish consists of chicken with a spicy peanut serrano chile sauce. The chicken was juicy and grilled to perfection. The sauce was delightful. I definitely would drive all the way to Tiburon from Hayward for this dish. That’s how much I enjoyed it. I was a little skeptical about it because of the peanut sauce but I’m glad I took the risk! You should Definitely order if u wanna try something new. My friend had the steak fajitas. All the ingredients that came along with it were fresh and delish! I loved the guacamole. They definitely make it in house with fresh ingredients. For dessert… I didn’t have dessert lol. I was way too full but I really wish I got to try the churros. Lastly, I’m so upset that I didn’t upload any pictures on here instead I posted on Snapchat… Which eventually deleted on it’s own without giving me the chance to save it. *sighs.* But it’s okay because there will be a next time. Until we meet again Guaymas! Thank you for the great hospitality and incredibly scrumptious food.

I really enjoy Guaymas. I have been to the establishment a few times for drinks during the winter time, but due to the gorgeous weather we’ve been having lately, decided to have dinner on the patio. Views are incredible on a clear night. Chips are plentiful and served with 2 different salsas. Margaritas are on point, they’re perfect and not syrupy. I had the vegetarian salad, and my friend had chicken flauntas. I really like that this restaurant does not serve refried beans, they use whole black beans. My salad was incredibly fresh, not heavy. The lettuce was tossed in a lime vinaigrette, and had a small amount of cotija cheese sprinkled on top. I would drive to Tiburon just for that salad. Service is good, but can be a little slow. Prices are reasonable for the Tiburon/Belvedere area.

I went here for the first time with my coworkers for end of the year get together. Whenever I try new Mexican restaurants I always fall back to my default of getting a burrito. I feel like it’s hard to mess up and typically I am usually pleased by it. I really enjoyed it and love the spin they put on their burritos. They put salsa and sour cream on the outside which is something I’ve never had before and it was delicious. Also the drinks are really good as well with drink specials everyday as well. There is a beautiful view over the Bay at the restaurant and if you get the chance to sit outside I would highly suggest it. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to sit outside but I will go back to get an opportunity to sit outside with the great view.

There are really only 2 reasons to visit Guaymas. The nice view of the bay and San Francisco, and the Booze. If you are looking for decent authentic Mexican Food you won’t find it here. That said, most Americans haven’t spent much time in Mexico; so, they really don’t know what decent authentic Mexican Food is. As with any ethnic restaurant, one of the best clues as to whether the food is decent and authentic is to see of anyone from that ethnicity is actually eating there. Foodwise, I have always considered Guaymas to be very poor as they mostly cater to tourists who mostly just come for the view. About 3 years ago, the smells wafting out of the kitchen were so good and on point, I went in few times, and ordered tacos at the bar. They were pretty good. Based on those experiences, I thought I’d check out the bar food again… Well, I wanted to order 2 carnitas tacos for $ 3 each; but, there was a little mix up and 1 was brought, and then another a few minutes later. The good thing about the mix up is that it gave me a chance to study the same menu item twice. With both tacos, the carnitas were cold and had little flavor. The first one came out with a modest amount of carnitas and no sauce, the second one had a lot of carnitas, and a red sauce on top. Clearly, the item was prepared by 2 different people and the kitchen doesn’t have consistent standard of how the item should be prepared and assembled. Wow. With the first taco, I had to add some sauce from my chips and salsa. Sadly, none of those salsas were very good. Since the tacos were not very filling, I later ordered 3 Chicken Flautas for $ 5. A Flauta is a rolled up corn taco that is usually deep fried and comes out crisp. Well, sadly these came out resting on a bed of greens. So, they absorbed a bunch of moisture and had been sitting on the greens so long, only the ends of each Flauta were crisp. Once again, the chicken was cold and not very flavorful. The bartender, who was very nice, suggested a Dave’s Margarita. It cost $ 11 and was so-so; nothing special. Later, when I let him know that it wasn’t that great, he asked if he could make me a margarita of his own. I said sure. We’ll, for $ 13 he gave me a really nice margarita. I think it might have even had a bit of grapefruit juice. That drink and the fact that my Buddy picked up the tab for me, was the highlight of the evening. The food was a huge disappointment, and that’s considering that I already knew it wasn’t going to be decent and authentic. My recommendation is let the staff participant more and bring the standards up. Just like the bartender freelancing the margarita, I bet there are some Hispanics working the kitchen that would just love to punch up the flavors, and the quality of the food they are serving. Perhaps, they could start by just adding some«specials» of the day. That way, they don’t alienate the people that are used to their really mediocre food.

Light lunch with my parents here while they were in town visiting. The view is amazing and the day we came was really clear and warm. My margarita was great — very small, aka hella ice. Service was good — waitress was great as well, her name was Kathryn. The food was incredible, dad and I split a carnitas plate. My mom got fish tacos, good amount of salmon and guacamole. My mom started smelling gas, as in a gas leak, and we mentioned it to our waitress, who told the manager who kind of dismissed us. A little frustrating — I come from the restaurant industry and you don’t do that. It smelled like gas… we don’t want to blow up, thanks. I live in SF, but will absolutely be back when I’m in the area or feeling like taking a day trip. 4 stars, would have been 5 if not for a few very minor things.

Was in the Bay Area visiting my cousins and was in need of libations. Tiburon is a really clean welcoming city. Parking can be hard to find depending on the time of day. They have different margarita flavors: Raspberry, Mango, Pomegranate and Strawberry. They also have the traditional margaritas that are not like 7-Eleven Slurpees. I went with the Mango. It was good especially that it wasn’t watered down and had a good amount of tequila. The tacos and enchiladas are okay. What makes this place special is the courteous staff and the view of San Francisco. A great way to unwind with a few drinks and a beautiful view of the city.

So we missed the ferry to Angel Island. Stopped in. Disappointed we missed the ferry. The quesadilla was a limp floppy thing that by no means matched the numerous adjectives expounding on its glory of goodness. I was actually pissed that I got«sold» a $ 10 item that I could do better at home for 50 cents. The salsa was old and the guac aging itself. I went to wash this thing down with my beer but that was warm — maybe its because I watched it sit on the bar for over 5 minutes on an 80 degree day. I would review the other food but that would just be a bitch fest. This place targets tourists as its most redeeming quality is location. I really don’t like writing bitchy reviews but this place needs to return to its roots of over a decade ago — it was great then…

Not sure why I haven’t reviewed this lovely restaurant ’til now, it’s my go-to place for lunch and dinner… love their sizzling shrimp fajitas. They also have a good selection of happy hour items. I’ve brought family here when they visit, especially when hubby doesn’t feel like grilling, or he’s outta town. There’s something for everyone. Everything is made fresh and tasty. They also have a kids’ menu with healthy options, and our son loves the churro dessert(not a kid’s item btw). I’m sure most of you know the view is spectacular. I enjoy relaxing here with a sangria in hand. Both the red & white sangrias are refreshing. Some days I want red, some days I want white. Service is superb, and there’s never a long wait; although, I come on week nights to avoid the weekend crowd. This place will not disappoint. If you’re ever in the area, come give it a try.

Hi all! I was so excited about coming to this restaurant. My sister talked about their«homemade» tortillas and yummy Mexican food for a long time. She told me, «When you walk into the restaurant you’ll smell the homemade corn tortillas.» She chose this restaurant for her birthday lunch. Truth be told I was looking forward specifically to the homemade tortillas. Unfortunately the tortillas, sad to say, are now factory made/packaged, we were told that they have outsourced the tortillas to a place in San Rafael. Personally I believe that was a bad move. Always nice to have something different that helps you stand out from the rest of the pack! Talking about a «pack» I’m sure glad we didn’t bring our dog Lucy as suggested by my sister… It seems the restaurant used to allow dogs in the outdoor area but had a few incidents and have decided only service dogs allowed. Understandable. Now… The View: it is amazing! The Service: Their waiters and waitresses are attentive, knowledgeable and quick to assist/serve and answer any questions with a smile. The Food: It was«only ok». I was really hoping for«great» and«delicious» there are so many Mexican Restaurants to choose from and I was hoping for crazy amazing. My nephew, when asked what his favorite part of the meal was, said what he had the last time he came(braised pork) and the ice cream tacos. We were a party of 8. Some of the highlights and comments from the group … Liked: «the drink Cantinitos», «ice cream tacos», «tortillas filled with chips and guacamole», «braised pork», «carne enchiladas», «customer service», «steak fajitas», «yummy flan». So there it is… Our score is… drum roll…3 stars. would have been 2 starts but the service was very good raising the two to a three! Cheers to our waiter Jose!

It’s been a while since I’ve dined at Guaymas. Each time I’ve come in here it’s always been a different experience. I feel like they change management and chefs on a regular basis. So consistency has never been their strong suit. Fortunately, on my most recent visit, everything seemed to be in synch. We popped in here at 9pm this weekend, after strolling through Tiburon’s Friday Nights on Main Street party. We were immediately seated in their outdoor patio(under the heat lamps), and indulged in chips & salsa, a round of margaritas, spectacular Bayside views. My friend and I were hungry — but not so hungry where we wanted fajitas or any kind of entrée with rice, beans, and guacamole. I guess you could say we were more interested in having some light bites. We finally settled on the carne asada tacos(3 come per order), and the chicken flautas. Both dishes were quick, delicious, and nicely presented. Best of all, when we finished our meals we didn’t feel like we needed a Pepto-Bismol and/or a nap. The total bill was in the $ 50 range. Obviously, that’s more than you’d pay at your average taqueria. But Guaymas ain’t your average taqueria. Gourmet Mexican cuisine, refreshing margaritas, friendly service, and first-class views — I definitely feel like we got our money’s worth this night. I’m glad to see that Guaymas is back on the right track. I’ll be back!

Despite the complaints of some other reviewers, I’ve eaten here on three separate occasions now and I have never once received poor service. The food is good if you’re expecting Americanized Mexican food. However, if you come here expecting authentic Mexican cuisine, you’re bound to be disappointed. Their Chile Relleno is in no way authentic Mexican, but it is indeed spicy, cheesy, deliciousness. The location alone merits at least a 4 star review. The patio can definitely get crowded with tourists coming in from the ferry, but it’s totally manageable to get a table if you go at the right time of day. And if you’re overly concerned about it, you can call ahead and make a reservation. I have enjoyed each of my experiences at Guaymas. I expect I’ll be having another cerveza overlooking the bay sometime soon.

This place gets a bad wrap, its beautiful, excellent food, amazing views and a great staff. Head here for a wet beef burrito or shrimp tacos and great margaritas– sit on the patio and enjoy a great view of Angel Island and most of the city. Tiburon is a sweet town with plenty of parking and generally nice weather. If you want to take the ferry for a day on Angel Island the dock for the boat is literally 10 yards from the restaurant. They hand make tortillas fresh everyday and have a beautiful bar. Give Guayma’s a try.

I haven’t been here for about five years, so it was about time! Lunch on a Sunday. My favorite dishes from back in the day were Poblano en Nogado and Cochinita Pibil. I report that they are as good or better than they ever have been. I recommend these two dishes, as they are spectacular. But, the other thing to mention, if you’ve never been here, is that the location is killer. The back patio looks right out on the Tiburon harbor, the ferry lading, Corinthian Yacht Club. On a nice day, it’s paradise. I looked a the bar and it looks terrific. I suggest the guacamole and a class of Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonney. Enjoy!

Eating here is such a fun experience. Guaymas will not give you the amazing Mexican food that you are expecting from a California restaurant, but you will be happy after you leave. You will most likely and, sadly, be here as you wait for the ferry to SF. But there is no better way to wait for your boat to come in. The prices are high but not outrageous for the location. There is plenty of bike parking outside and the food is adequate. We shared cheese quesadillas and some wine. We were served chips and salsa and we were made to feel at home. We really enjoyed the heart-warming, cheesy goodness of the quesadillas. I mean, they are not going to change the word but they will make you smile. I’ll have to try the rest of the menu to give Guaymus a more complete review. The happy hour menu looks, well, very happy indeed. But I like what I have seen so far. I expect to be back.
