I bought an Amazon Local deal for the $ 15 for $ 30 deal a few weeks ago. I was hoping to use it soon as a last fun outing with coworkers before I go on maternity leave in April(the deal is good through June but I doubt I could go that late with a newborn). Then, one of my coworkers told me today that the Brat Brothers in Thousand Oaks is shut down. What gives? Just a sign on the door apparently and no information. Bad form! I haven’t even gotten a chance to go there yet and heard how awesome it was from friends and coworkers. Guess that’s not gonna happen! I called Amazon Local on their support line and got a refund. They also gave me a promotional gift amount for my trouble. Brat Brothers should follow that proper kind of customer service instead of not letting customers know what is going on.

Definetly not coming back here. They were slammed from their living social deal, only one waitress, out of beer, wrong food. Seriously bad service. The hostess who took the drink order got them wrong. Not very happy.

Let’s start off with the obvious. Brats Brothers has a great atmosphere. Big wooden tables, decorations hanging from the ceiling, and wait staff in authentically clad outfits. The wait staff is wonderful and really pay attention. I mostly stick to their traditional faire of Goulasch, Wienerschnitzel, and Pork Shank. I usually get a dumpling on the side when I get the Goulasch. The brats are good also, but I’m usually there for dinner so I steer more towards that. Good german beer selection. I had the German meatloaf most recently and it wasn’t really what I was expecting. It was more of a 1″ thick slice of bologna. It may be an authentic recipe, but I didn’t enjoy it. It’s good for big groups since they have massive 12′ wooden tables. I don’t know about the Sherman Oaks location, but the Newbury Park location doesn’t have happy hour on Friday or Saturdays anymore. It may have just been a summer thing.

The atmosphere totally reminds me of disneyworld where they have the different parts around the world. They remind me of Germany and the décor is impeccable. The waitstaff is very nice and warm. I wasn’t too thrilled about the food. It could be just that I haven’t had ever authentic German food. I was really disappointed that they didnt have American beer there. I mean we are in the US. I know you are trying to stay German but I really am not a fan of dark beers. Other than that it’s a nice place of atmosphere !!

CLOSED as of Feb 6… stay tuned. We’re holding out hope that it comes back!!! Love this place! Cold German beer… Yes! Hot, delicious brats… Yes! Authentic German music by Hazelnuss Das Music ALMOST every Friday and Saturday night… Yes! This restaurant has made it through their first year. We discovered this NP gem a month or so after they opened. I think a neighbor told us about it but hadn’t actually been there. Where the old Lamppost Pizza used to be, if you’re a NP resident, you know where I’m talking about. First time we went, I tried the sampler and the hubby had a large meal that I can’t believe he actually finished. We loved it so much, we started going a couple times a month. Now we’re regulars, know the staff and owner and just love the place… AND…we even got married there on December 21, 2013, no joke! I’ve loved every brat I’ve ordered but have become partial to the«other big cheese» and grandma’s saurkraut. Sometimes they don’t have the beer you want. I have found that it is completely beyond their control, depending upon what the suppliers can get. It’s not Budweiser, it’s German beer made in one town in Germany and you get what you get! Try something new, it won’t kill you! I’ve seen people complain about the noise level here on Unilocal.I’ve complained about the noise level. It’s just loud in there because the ceiling is metal. Step by step, this restaurant is evolving thanks to people being politely honest about their preferences and I’ve seen staff and owner be nothing but accommodating to customers requests. They do want to stay in business, after all. Perhaps 2014 will be the year of the egg carton foam ceiling? If you read this in time, there is a biker lunch on January 5 from 11am-3pm. Free food and get your biker discount card. Give the place a try. I’m sure you’ll love it!

I’ve only been here two times but I absolutely love this place!(The first time was last Friday. So it’s been a short affair so far) but it’s been delicious both times and the atmosphere is awesome! Plus, there are quite a few delicious beers to choose from! Also, Jenny was our waitress both times and actually remembered us from our visit last week even though we weren’t even there that long! Overall, awesome experience! My boyfriend and I love it and will definitely be back soon!(:

I want to make this place a family staple! I love its look, the food, and the staff! every time we go in here, we are never disappointed with our choices in beer, brats, and the entertainment on friday and saturday nights(which is a must see.) I took my Oma in here for mothers day and I made sure the band was there. We sang german drinking songs, ate delicious food, and my Oma even got to speak german! I love when she does that. Want a night out with the boys? A place to bring a friend for a new, fun experience? Or just a place to grab a delicious bite? You’ve found it! Thanks Roland!

Sometimes in life you need a hug, and german food, is food that hugs your soul, also the waistline. I love a place that has Paulaner on draft, it’s my favorite beer! You have to get the large pretzel, it will the best pretzel you’ve ever had! Also, I super enjoyed the lamb brat with grandma’s sauerkraut. But the best item of the night was the apple strudel! Tastes like your german grandma made it with extra extra love. If it’s your bday you get one for free!

Saw this featured on Let’s Eat. I and my daughter, her friend and her friend’s mom decided to try this place Friday night. We arrived around 6 p.m. The place is noisy. This is not the restaurant for an intimate conversation or a romantic date. But we loved the atmosphere and passed the time waiting for a spot to open at one of the long tables by browsing in the gift shop(steins, dirndls, lederhosen, wooden carvings), perusing the menu and checking out all the cute guys with their giant mugs of beer. We were finally seated and a waiter in lederhosen and Tyrolean felt hat took our drink order. I decided I really ought to drink beer in a place like this. After a few tries to order drinks that they were out of, I ended up with an Allagash White and thought it was very good. We had no idea the place had live music and much to our surprise and delight an actual German band, LA-based Hazelnuss, performed classic oompah music. There was a tuba, vocals, guitar, accordion, drums & other percussion. Many of the patrons seemed to know the songs and sang along. The atmosphere was boisterous and very festive — much swaying back and forth with raised steins in the air. The musicians interacted with the patrons and stood on tables and benches and generally made the evening a lot of fun. The place was packed and it took quite some time before our waiter took our order. Then it took another chunk of time for our food to be delivered. However, we were having so much fun taking pictures and enjoying the music and atmosphere, we really didn’t mind the wait. The other party at our table was drinking beer from a tiny little barrel set on a stand on their table. I guess it was a mini keg of some kind. Our food arrived in baskets, with the sides in separate dishes. My daughter and her friend had hot dogs. Her friend’s mom and I had brats. I had the French brat(chicken, apple, cinnamon). It was very good but big. I could not finish it. All the hot dogs and brats arrived in wonderful toasted buns. Really good. Every table has a selection of different mustards/condiments and a pile of napkins — very helpful. My daughter and her friend had some French fries and a small pretzel. I thought the fries were really good but I just was too full from the beer and the brat to eat many of them. I had a couple sides — some cheese spaetzle and sautéed mushrooms. They were only okay and I would probably skip them next time given the generous portions of the brat, bun, and fries. Other menu items look really good. I want to go back and try just about everything listed. They also had exotic brat offerings. If you like non-standard meat — check it out. The menu lists brats made from frog leg meat, buffalo, lamb, alligator, venison, elk, kangaroo, wild boar, ostrich, and duck in addition to the standard beef, pork, and chicken. Other menu items include things like wiener schnitzel(choice of pork, chicken, or veal), Bavarian meatloaf, Bavarian beer goulash, and sauerbraten. All in all it was loud, fun, happy, good food. I will be back.

Service was terrible and took long, food was overpriced and not very good. I had the Cajun brat and it was over cooked but the bun was toasted nicely. It came with 2 sides of my choice. I got the spaetzle and chopped salad. Spaetzle was meh and the salad was disgusting… Kinda hard to mess up a salad but they found a way. Still had water in my plate from when they washed the lettuce… lots of it. Went with 2 buddies and both had the same thing going on with theirs The service… Had dirty silverware on the table for us when we sat down, took over 30 min to come by and take our order and it wasn’t even busy. When the food came the server spilled it all over one of my friends and then just walked away without saying a word or apology or anything. He eventually came back and replaced it. Only reason I’m not giving it 1 star is bc they have a bunch of TVs and it might be a decent place to watch a sporting event.

The food is incredible, hands down. The garlic Parmesan fries, the rancher, and the«other» cheese brat was to die for. The chili on the side was the best I’ve ever had. Our server was fantastic and friendly. It had a great atmosphere and always got attention when needed. The prices are very reasonable and the deal online for 10 for $ 20 is the way to go.

I have been longing to come to Brats Brothers since I saw it featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I love sausage(that’s what she said — LOL), and Brats Brothers has over a dozen sausages to choose from. The Newbury Park location is the second location, the original being in Sherman Oaks. It is located in a shopping center with a Vons and a CVS. On a Saturday evening, Brat Brothers is certainly where the party is at. It is a pretty large restaurant with a big bar, half a dozen communal tables and a ring of regular sized tables around the edge. The servers are dressed up like they work in a German sausage restaurant(i.e., costumes), and there was a band playing traditional tunes on Saturday night. The place was absolutely packed, so I highly recommend making reservations. I never thought to make reservations at a sausage joint, so I was sad to learn that they could not accommodate our party of two. Alas, this was a long way from home, I was eager to try the food, and I was starving. So, we ordered our food to go and ate at a table in the shopping center, which may belong to Subway but that was not clear. The restaurant is really LOUD, and I was relieved to leave with my food when I did.(I.e., I am really glad that they could not accommodate my party, because it would have meant more of a headache.) Our food was ready in 10 minutes or so. We ordered the Hungarian Sausage, which is a spicy pork link that is HOTHOTHOT. I like spicy, but this was really hot. It had a crisp casing and juicy interior — yummy. The sausage was served on amazing, fresh French roll. We also ordered the Hot Texan, which is a spicy beef link. It is also hot — not blow your face off hot like the Hungarian Sausage, but hot. It is also served on one of those yummy French rolls. The sausages are plain on the roll, but there were mustards and ketchups(yes, plural — half a dozen or so mustards and three ketchups). The sausage is a bit spendy($ 6.95/each), but it is excellent quality. Definitely 5 star links and rolls. You cannot get the meals with two sides after 5PM — LAME — so we ordered three side dishes. DH had the Bavarian Tater Tots, which is mashed potato wrapped around a cheese and garlic mixture, all of which is deep fried. It is $ 2.95 for 5 tots that are 2 bites each. It is also $ 2.95 for about three quarters of a cup of the warm cabbage slaw, which is your standard slow cooked cabbage with a hint of vinegar. Pretty expensive for what you get… We also paid $ 2.95 for the regular cabbage slaw, which was awesome. It was about a cup of sliced red cabbage in a tangy dressing with tons of caraway. I am definitely happy to have had a sausage, and the awesome red cabbage slaw, from Brat Brothers. I don’t think that I would try to come here for dinner — it is just too loud. But, I would definitely come by and pick up food to go.

Excellent. I had their Black Forest brat. Very good, even by Wisconsin standards(where we normally get our brats). Great beer selection. They have a fun décor. We were there for lunch, which was not crowded. I’m told it can get pretty loud in the evening when packed. Thank you Malia R and Dennis S for your recommendations.

It’s really big inside unlike the Sherman Oaks location. They have a small bar area, big TV’s all over the place, lots of seating and they serve Allagash which is my favorite beer. I decided to try the Sampler(which gives you a variety of sausages to sample) with sauerkraut on the side and a really big Pretzel drenched in sea salt. I loved the Black Forest Sausage the best and it will be what I order on my next time out. The Pretzel had too much salt on it, I had to eat around those big chunks of sea salt rocks. The sampler goes for $ 12.00. They have good prices for lunch 5 – 6 bucks for sausages. We did try the Tater Tots– very interesting and good– crunchy balls on the outside with a creamy cheese and potato chunks in the inside. Really Good. They have a live German band that plays in here on Friday and Saturday evenings I believe. It is hidden in the Von’s Promenade. Also there’s a really good Unilocal Deal on this place right now, it’s $ 10 for 20 bucks worth of food. Worth it!

GAH!!! I don’t know if I’ve ever done an update to an update before. Ok I probably have. I got lots-O-‘pinions, ya’ know. But really, I just want to help this place. IDK how much attention they pay to these reviews, but giving them the benefit of the doubt. .. here I go. A lot of the negativity is around the service. And it’s well deserved. I got a little pissy yesterday when my husband got his beer and was happily sipping away for like 15 minutes and I still had nuthin’. Since my server was — guess what — nowhere to be found, I went up to the bar and said«gimme my beer»(paraphrasing). Bartender said, «I got the order. That particular beer takes 20 minutes to pour.» WHA! Ok, maybe I should know that. ?? But I think if the servers would let the customers know — at the time they order — that a particular beer or dish will take much longer to prepare then the rest of the table’s orders, MAYBE, just maybe, the negativity about the service will ease up a little. Also, maybe, just maybe, if the customers could actually HEAR what the servers are saying. .. I mean who the hell knows, right? Maybe my server did tell me the beer takes 20 minutes to pour(she didn’t.) But if she would have, I wouldn’t have heard her because guess what? On a WEDNESDAY night, the place only about ¼ full, the«entertainment» was so loud that my husband couldn’t hear me yell, «HAVE A BITEOFMYPRETZEL!» Lastly, the beer should be MUCH colder. It is definitely not cold enough, even by European standards. P. S. The brat sliders were really great. Still LOVE the pretzel — brat pocket also very good.

Great beer, sausages & live music! We’ve been his Sherman Oaks place, and liked it a lot. This one is far better than Sherman Oaks one! Brats located not far from freeway(+1), in a large shopping mall meaning easy to park(+2), well decorated(+3). I had Spaten and bratwurst with raw sauerkraut. Beer was so fresh and sauerkraut also. It tasted like the one I had in a small Metxgerei in Germany. T had something with alligator which was so crispy and tasty! Live band was playing like Oktoberfest. Very cool. One advice would be, be there early enough on weekends. Unless you might have to wait long and be upset, because you are watching everyone’s enjoying their food with hungry stomach. Like a Biergarden in Germany, or Wurstkuche in downtown LA, you sit with others in a long bench type seats. Definitely we will go there again.

Went here for lunch with a friend. I was impressed with the décor and felt like I was not in Newbury Park any longer. The menu was extensive. Our German brats were excellent and the service was good. I want to go back a few more times and bump this review up to 5 stars.

The potential is there but the overall experience left me saying«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» The brats themselves were actually quite good. I liked the Hot Texan with the onions and peppers(although I didn’t like the extra charge for the onions and peppers). My lady enjoyed a good Other Big Cheese. We ordered a side of garlic fries as well. The fries were ok but they came out a little cold and lacked salt. The variety of ketchup and mustard was fun to experiement with as well. The smoked ketchup was my favorite. Service was sub-par. Our waiter was average at best. He struggled to keep drinks filled and I wasn’t even offered a second beer during my meal. We also witnessed at least 2 tables being served their food before us even though they were sat nearly 15 minutes after we were seated. The most annoying thing about the service was being approached by random servers asking«Is this your order?». This must have occurred at least 3 times. This is especially annoying when after the 3 time we actually did receive our order then were approached again. Obviously it couldn’t have been our order because WEWEREEATING! Our tab arrived and I honestly couldn’t believe we had a $ 48 bill(before tip). Maybe Brats Brothers is worth visiting during happy hour but for dinner I was a bit underwhelming. The food was good but the service struggled and the value just doesn’t seem to be there. I don’t mind paying extra for ambiance or atmosphere but the cool German-beer hall thing couldn’t overcome the rest of my experience.

Who wouldn’t want to end the year with a banger, i mean brat? Gourmet bratwursts and beers? Yes please! I’d heard good things about the location in Sherman Oaks, so I thought I’d check out this newly opened Brats Brothers in Newbury Park, ended up here on New Years Eve for an early dinner. Food is good, ambiance is fun with lively German tunes playing in the background. Large screens throughout the restaurant showing televised sports and a big screen in the back with projections of things, Germany. The uniforms the staff wear made me smile, they are colorful, but by no means are the people wearing them on this visit. 1-star for rocky start with service at this joint. We sat at our table for nearly 10 minutes, not one server stopped or acknowledge our party. The restaurant wasn’t too busy either, there were many open tables when we arrived. Finally I got up to see what was going on and the waitress I encounter that tells me ‘sorry but your not in my section.’ Funny thing, guess who became our waitress? Ehem. By the disappointed looks on the faces of the other patrons sitting near, didn’t look like we were the only receiving this treatment. Quite possibly the longest I have ever waited for a brew at restaurant that was visibly not busy. No joke, drinks took 30 minutes to hit the table, supposedly they had co2 issues. With an interesting start behind us, my taste buds were happy with everything else that followed– a cold liter of Spaten Original, garlic fries and brat, Polish. Check the table for special sauces like wasabi mustard and curry ketchup. The chef saved the day, with his food and personality. Not certain if this happens on a normal night, or because it we ate here on New Years Eve, but the chef came into the dining room rolling a cart that had 1-whole pig roasted pig atop. He and his assistant carved as much succulent meat and ‘crackle’/skin as you wanted to taste, free of charge. Brats Bros. in Newbury has potential, the food and drink is good and unique to the area. FOOD was a bang! Service was mash! :(I’m hoping to return when the business is more oiled and the customer service kinks, ironed out.
