First time here! Awesome experience — great food — fantastic prices and most importantly Phenomenal service by the bartender Mike!!! Thomason has a cute little downtown & it was my first time exploring it… So Given the foot traffic downtown on a Sunday afternoon & thomaston’s actual population /demographics I would guess this restaurant’s excellent staff, prices food is the reason there is no seat at the bar :) (Side note it’s not football season either) So go visit Mike Or his colleagues Whom he also spoke highly of #TeamWork If I still ran restaurants I would try to steal this bartender for my staff :) Truly unbiased… And I can be very critical Born & raised in the industry #ServiceFirstFoodQualityAndValue #5Stars

Great food, great bartenders and pretty quick service. I highly recommend the«Steak on a rock, the wings, the pretzel knots, and a LLIT(Lindsey Long island Iced Tea — Lindsey has to be bar tending though)

I bought a house a year ago and my real estate agent gave us a 50 $ gift card to black rock. We finally got around to using it a few months ago. The food was pretty good and our waiter was a cool guy. The pulled pork nachos were very good. For my meal I got the Reuben without the thousand island dressing and asked for mustard on it instead which they forgot to put on. The décor and atmosphere was very out dated and the dining room was oddly set up. Tables seemed to be randomly thrown about. I would come back but not for a while.

I’ve eaten in the dining area, picked up takeout, and had drinks at the bar area numerous times in the past years and have always been satisfied. This is definitely the best place of its kind in the thomaston/Plymouth area. The street it is located on is quaint, and the setup inside has a nice, charming feel. I especially enjoy how warm and inviting the bar feels. I love the seasonal martinis, and the boneless wings here are my favorite. The nachos and fresh potato chips are excellent. This is one of those places where everything you order is especially tasty and not just your average food– even the basic items I’ve mentioned. For this reason I don’t mind that some of the dishes err on the pricey said. I haven’t tried any of the $ 25+ seafood or meat dishes(not my thing), but have enjoyed the salads, appetizers, and pasta dishes. I’ve celebrated a few special occasions here with my fiancé such as birthdays and anniversaries, and we like it so much here that we came to dine right after getting engaged. For these occasions we have splurged on a bottle of wine, and you can get a few for very reasonable prices here. Staff is always friendly and professional. The regulars have been off putting when we brought friends from out-of-town but that type of thing won’t keep me from going to a place I like. I specifically mean that when you enter through the bar ALL patrons will stop everything they are doing to stare for a minute. At least the staff make up for it! My only complaint is that I expect salads of their price point to be exceptionally large. Other than that I’m very happy to have this charming tavern in my relative area where there is nothing else of its kind.

This place is awesome. The food is great and so is the staff. They are friendly, personable and down to earth. We love coming to Thomaston to enjoy the old architecture and a great restaurant like Black Rock Tavern. Always a great time!

Service was really slow but the food was surprisingly worth the wait! Aside from a loud drunk lady yelling obscenities occasionally, it was a nice date night. We will be back for sure!

We stopped in last night to meet some friends at the bar. We also ordered some food. The menu is typical bar fare. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap(which wasn’t on the menu) and my girlfriend ordered a plate of boneless buffalo tenders. Both were decent, but the buffalo sauce was a tad too spicy for me. Excellent service at the bar! The bartender was extremely friendly and attentive. Nice place to stop in for some drinks, food and good times.

I went to BRT one night with my fiancé and another couple. The restaurant wasn’t that busy, so we were seated fairly quickly. Our waitress was nice and bread came out in a timely manner. I opted for a pasta dish, my fiancé did the«cook your own steak», another got a salad and then another person got a chicken dish. While we enjoyed the food, the portions were SO small. I remember specifically my friend saying, «this is what I am getting for $ 25». Also, we understand steak is expensive but you pretty much pay $ 30 to cook your own food. Steak is expensive but it’s not THAT expensive. Our waitress was friendly but like others said, there were times where she would randomly disappear and not come back for what seemed like forever. There was also a table sitting next to us that we heard constantly complaining about how slow the service was. The food was good, but the prices are astronomical for what you get. In all reality I would rather go to an actual steak house and get beyond great service and food, than a tavern and get mediocre service and food.

Great food, drinks & atmosphere. Stopped in a couple weeks ago on a Friday night and they had my favorite fried whole belly clams on their specials menu. They were perfectly cooked & delicious! Went back that Sunday and was disappointed they were not on the menu. :(However, I asked the bartender to see if they had some and they did! They also have a pretty decent craft beer selection. I will be back!

Stopped in on the way to Lake compounce haunted graveyard. Good food and good menu. Draft beer from local breweries and nice selection. We all had burgers that were just right but some of the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked interesting like the steak on a hot stone sizzling.

A ittle gem in Thomaston that has consistently good food and a great beer selection. The calamari with peppers and Gorgonzola was a great combination. For dinner, had the Harvast Salad which was equally good. I did expect this specialty salad to come with its own complimentary dressing but you just had to pick from the regular dressing list. Also, I wish they didn’t cut up the apples and walnuts so small. Friend had the brisket sandwich with onion rings which he said was really good. I can attest to the onion rings since I had a few. Overall, I am delightfully satisfied with the restaurant and the its food.

I have been going here for about 5 years. The restaurant itself is not an upscale restaurant and has a bar attached to it that locals like to sit at. Most recently we ordered take-out dinners. i have to say the woman bartender who took my order had a great personality and was very sweet. The food, however, didn’t match. My daughter got Ahi Tuna with rice. The tuna was good(my daughter disagrees) but the rice was so hard she couldn’t put a fork or knife through it. We ordered a $ 14 appetizer of scallops. There were only 3 scallops in this appetizer — we’re talking $ 4.50 per scallop. These were nothing outstanding. I could almost see it if this came from an upscale restaurant but not from this place. My son ordered a grilled prime rib steak. Was about ½″ thick and had a lot of fat that had to be cut off. He was disappointed. I ordered a sirloin steak with stuffed lobster. The filing was good but«steak» was about 3″ round. Never saw a sirloin steak 3″ round. Not much food for the price. Several dinners were listed on the menu as coming with vegetables. This was deceiving since there were diced up vegetables that looked the they were more of a garnish than part of a meal. This was a disappointment for all of us who thought we were going to get vegetables with our meal. If you want to try it out, go for there burgers. They have been good in the past but I haven’t tried them lately.

This place is awesome. The food is great and so is the staff. They are friendly, personable and down to earth. Black Rock Tavern holds a lot of history for the Town of Thomaston. Of course the building looks old, it is. Come here, sit back and relax. Always a great time!

Excellent food, order anything on the hot stone. The steak, chicken, shrimp or scallops are served raw on a stone that’s baked around 600° so you cook it the way you like it. It comes with several dipping sauces; mustard, teriyaki, sea salt, and something else. Definitely a must try.

Went for the first time with a group of girls from work for apps/drinks in the restaurant area. Cozy place with a better than usual selection of cocktails(not the typical cosmo, lemon drop, etc you usually see, although they obviously can make those) and even a nice selection of beer in bottle/tap. Cocktails were about $ 10, which is pretty standard, but they’re better tasting than what I’ve had elsewhere and not watered down. We shared a few orders of the nachos(which had been talked up quite a bit by several people) which were delicious & had 3 rounds of drinks before moving to the bar. A few people complained that our waitress was slow, but I didn’t really think so. I mean, she can’t make the bartender make drinks more quickly, and we were all ordering different drinks so it seemed reasonable to me. Once we moved to the bar, though, I was really impressed by the bartender. Sorry I didn’t catch his name, but he was so friendly and personable, and we did not have any issues getting refills. I’m looking forward to going back again for drinks!

Service is a bit slow. They serve you warm bread and oil before you order.(See picture I posted.) For my meal I had loaded potato skins and added chili to it. I ended up not finishing it. The chili was too tomatoey for me that night. My friend had the Mozzarella en Caroza he really liked it. The bar side of the restaurant was packed and playing country music when I first got there at 8:30 on a Friday night. I opted to sit on the restaurant side so I could actually hear my date. The menu has a lot of things I’d like to try on it. I would go back.
