Came across this place on a hot day where nothing else was open — really happy those places weren’t open so we could discover this place. Amazing, authentic Mexican food. Even better service. Totally an unexpected treat!!!

If you are in Salton City and hungry this is your place. The garbage burrito is full of beans and rice, pico, guacamole, and meat. The tortilla is soft and the overall experience is good. They give you chips and salsa for to go orders. The salsa is good. This is a middle of the road Mexican place but if you are hungry and out here it hits the spot. They also sell cold beer and we had one while waiting for the food.

Happened upon all the positive reviews for Alamo on Unilocal and decided to stopped for a late lunch on the way back to San Diego. It did not disappoint! The food was authentic and delicious. Our waitress was great and everything was served quickly. Highly recommend and I would for sure stop if I’m ever passing by again.

Some of the best Mexican food around. The shrimps coctail is delicious and is allways the best choise for hot days. I would recommend to try it when your around.

Stopped here for breakfast with my 4 crazy kids and pretty much trashed the place. From the outside it doesn’t look like much and wasn’t sure if it was even open. The dining room was nice with large booths and granite counters. The service was friendly and helpful despite the mayhem. I got huevos a la Mexicana which was great, rest of the fam got regular breakfast stuff, pancakes, eggs, sausage, etc which was standard issue. Pancakes maybe a bit sub par actually but it is a Mexican restaurant and everything else was great so no big. Hope to stop by again for a more Mexican oriented meal another time.

Some of the best Mexican food around. When ever I’m out riding in ocotillo it is a must to stop here. There chavela’s aren’t bad either.

Simply put bugs. Yes plural in my daughters drink… Fajitas came in the plate meat chewy, rice dry. And we were billed for everything including the drink with bugs yes we told them.

Great place to stop on the way to Mexicali. «Carmen’s Special»(nachos) looks like something my grandma would have thrown together for me… in a good way! The«red rice» was always excellent. Salsa was a tad spicy, but still delicious. Chiles rellenos were delicious. According to the hubby, the California burrito was good, but could have been filled more, as it was a large tortilla. The food was served super hot-straight out of the kitchen. Very… abuelita’s house atmosphere.

Was driving down Highway 86 hankering for some Mexican food so I turn left towards the Salton Sea hoping there’d be something, the first place on the right was the Alamo. I went inside air conditioning felt good and the young gentleman help me who is very kind and courteous. Just felt like a couple of beef tacos Dorado style and a bean tostada. Young man named Brian I come to find out brought me out some chips and salsa, which would go well with the Negra Modelo. The salsa had just the right amount of kick and the food was delivered shortly thereafter. the beans in the bean tostada where as authentic as they come and the tacos we’re small but filled with beef and tasty. I will definitely make a return trip and try out something from the mariscos menu and will definitely bring some friends.

Only a few kilometers from the Mexican border one would not expect to be disappointed with the Mexican Food — and we weren’t! The salsa was so good I had to take a cup with me in a paper cup! The chicken enchiladas were of the variety that can only be found this side of el cielo. The kind of home-made comida I wish I had at home :-)

Excellent food, fantastic pupusas and great service. Good people! A great find on the way to Salton Sea. The menu looks like it has great dinner options although we were here for lunch and were very pleased.

Come here in the car or ride up out of the desert! Awesome place! We rode up on our dirt bikes and ate outside. Service was awesome, the burrito, taco and enchiladas were all great along with the rice and beans!

This is our 3rd year to stop at the Alamo. Nice guacamole served in an edible cup. They serve cold beer. The beef burrito was big and meaty. Flautas had a nice fresh salad topping. Love this kind of family owned restaurant.

I got a blowout on the freeway and decided I’d go in for a few drinks & bite to eat while I waited for help. I sat inside cause it was raining. I had a couple michelada’s(with were really good) and a chicken taco(which the sweet young man had suggested) the food was really good & the service was great too. they could probably use some remodeling but it is like in the middle of no where so really can’t expect too much!

Stopped here by chance on the way from Yuma, AZ going home(near San Francisco) and was very pleasantly surprised. The two young guys running the place were very efficient, despite being far busier than they could manage ideally. Still had great service non-the-less. My girlfriend was VERY pleased with the menudo/pozole she had, and it came with all the proper fixings. I had a breakfast burrito, which was just okay… UNTIL I added a bunch of cilantro, and their VERY delicious salsa. It was absolutely one of the best I’ve had with those additions. Salsa actually had a nice heat and was full flavored.(We’re so used to the salsa being tamed down for all the gringos here, that it more resembles marinara than salsa). Very refreshing change. Baja fries were a good idea, but kind of bland. We also got flautas to go, and those were a bit small and sad. But both our main dishes were so good that we didn’t mind as much. Would definitely return to try more on the next trip.

An updated review… the place keeps getting better. Like I said before, the salsa is awesome and so are their wet burritos. And on the last few visits, the service has been better and faster than before. Really, there’s nothing to not love about this place. The ambiance is simple, but you’re here for the excellent food.

Pass this off ramp a thousand time on the way to Glamis. Was not feeling like fast food, so we popped in for a bite. We didn’t expect much, considering the location and the reviews. But were pleasantly surprised from start to finish. We were instantly greeted by a very nice young man and seated immediately. It was a Sunday afternoon and half full, and the pool room was half full and the game was on with several screens. Very clean and tidy. Started off with some ice cold Pacifico’s and chips and salsa. Salsa, top notch, obviously home made, chips were average, and the quac, store bought, can’t win them all.(but cheap, so who cares, right?) My friend ordered a combo, I went with the Tim’s burro,(carne, etc) Food came out in a timely manner, very hot, fresh, and loaded with flavor. Sizable portion, not the best prices, however considering they have no competition I assume they can charge whatever they feel like and get it. Service stayed great all the way through, we had several ice cold beers, and even bought some fresh dates on my way out. I will be going back, for sure. It is rustic, but clean and friendly. The bathroom was very clean, I seem to always end up in there at some point.

Not many options in this part of the country, so my sister and I had late lunch here. We shared guacamole and ceviche as appetizers, then she had flautas and I had chicken fajitas. Everything was pretty good — the fajitas were really greasy, but what do you expect??? She had a beer and I had a Coke, and the total was around $ 60. We sat on the outdoor patio and there were a lot of flies… but that sort of added to the vibe. The staff was very friendly and service was good. I’d possibly stop by here again if I were in the area.
