Always a great time rafting with Moxie Outdoor Adventures. Great hospitality, great food and safe, fun rafting. We have been rafting with this company for years and would never change. They are easy to work with, have a variety of accommodations from tenting to bug free houses and great rates, depending on what you want to do. We buy the meal plan every year and they put together a great spread. We are always bringing up new folks, so we stay with rafting the Dead river, but would love to one day try their other packages. Moxie Outdoors comes highly recommended.

I’ve been rafting in Maine since 2002 and with Moxie since 2014. I’ll never go with another outfitter for as long as I live. I can’t say enough about the amazing people who run this company. The guides are all fantastic — every single one. I’ve never had a river trip that left me wanting for a better hit on Big Mama or a more intimate experience on the breathtaking lower Kennebec. The guides — all kind, friendly, and knowledgeable — are a hit with the kids and aren’t afraid to instigate splash fights; many guides also have a deep understanding of the river ecology and it’s rich history and significance to the Native Americans who inhabited and used it centuries ago. The river lunches are nuts. Just sick. Picture a private island in the middle of the river and 100 steaks all being simultaneously grilled on a massive roaring hardwood fueled fire pit. The spread doesnt just include meat, but also grilled chicken, veggie burgers, the fabled Moxie Beans, and other fixins. Food was ready in less than 20 minutes time from the first boat touching down on the island. Absolutely epic. It wouldn’t be fair to not mention the Lake Moxie Camps or the service at the campground. The campground, which I believe is the closest of any outfitter to the put-in point(which means a later start time to get to the damn in the morning!) is situated DIRECTLY on Lake Moxie. The lawn seamlessly meets the water, making for the best camp sites I’ve ever seen. I make a point to sleep out on the lawn under the stars whenever the weather allows. On clear nights you can see the Milky Way like it’s been highlighted and shooting stars are commonplace. And, if you’re like me, you’ll wake up early to watch the sun rise over the lake, slowly baking away the morning mist. Its magical. Plus, if glamping isn’t your thing there are also fully furnished cabins, including the private lake cabin. The lake cabin is HUGE and, from my experience, perfect for those parties you barely remember. And, as for the campground service, it’s top notch. Late one night last year our party ran out of firewood, around 11pm. The campground manager had just finished his last rounds. Unaware that he was about to retire for the evening, we asked to buy another wheelbarrow of wood. Without as much as a grimace he went out back to fetch us some; however, it turned out that all the readily available wood had already been purchased that evening. Nonetheless, he insisted that he provide us some and quickly ran across the street, then proceed to hand-chop an entire barrow in a matter of minutes! That’s what I call service. Overall the Moxie experience ranks with the best I’ve ever had at any adventure outfitter or campground. It’s a no-brainer: Go With Moxie!

Moxie is simply fantastic. I have done the all-day adventure with the lunch on an island a half-dozen times with folks ranging in age from 9 years old to teenagers to 50– and 60-somethings. It’s always just a total blast from the first to the last. Exciting, thrilling, amazing, beautiful, inspiring, awesome — pure joy — and YET you totally know these people know what they are doing and they will keep you safe. This is an inherently risky activity but they clearly have figured out exactly how to get everybody down the river having a fantastic time. It’s just the most fun ever! Highly, highly recommend. And as a bonus, we’ve seen both moose and eagles on our trips! PS the lunch is absolutely delish, loved by the pickiest kid or the true gourmand. They have vegan options too. Do NOT miss the baked beans — YUM!

I was unable to cancel my reservation even though I called 2 days in advance. Fortunately I canceled my trip because my friends who went were injuried when their raft flipped over due to an error by an inexperienced guide. Do not raft with this company since they don’t care about customers financial or safety concerns.

I really enjoyed my experience with Moxie! The guides were very knowledgeable, and the rafting was amazing! It was a lot of fun! Our guide would point out areas where they’d seen eagles or other interesting wildlife along the way. The barbeque lunch was actually one of the better lunches I’ve had while rafting. The next time I go, I will definitely go on a dam release date. And, there will definitely be a next time! This is one of the best whitewater rafting trips I’ve been on in a while!

BEAUTIFUL place, wonderful crew! Had a weekend there this July, rafting on Saturday and just hangin’ on Sunday… Great food! Clean, well-maintained campground and rafting equipment! Staff was MAGNIFICENT! Friendly, safety –conscious, knowledgeable, patient, informative… I cannot say enough about them or MOXIE. River rafting was exciting and varied… whitewater, gentle water, just enough of each. Took my 12 year-old son on the whitewater rafting — handled it like a champ. There was also a second raft in our party for a gentler, «dry» ride for one of our party who had a smaller child… Wonderful steak(!) lunch! A super value! WILLDEFINITELY go again!

Moxie Outdoor Adventures was fantastic. We we’re pretty lucky to have double the water flow on the day we went rafting so the rapids were fast and exciting. They do a great mid rafting cookout on this awesome little island in the middle of the river. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling way to spend your day! The only hiccup on our trip was the photos that we were supposed to be able to purchase weren’t available due to some technical glitch. This is a big bummer because there is no other way to have pictures from the trip… All in all great experience though.

Agree with all the other Unilocalers. Moxie’s Outdoor Adventures is aptly named. It is well worth the drive, the rafting is amazing. Cliff and his guides & staff are top notch. Our group had a blast & I would go back solo, it was that much fun! Even the young children in our group got to go via the special raft Cliff guided for them. They loved it. The Forks area is beautiful. We hiked & biked as well. As an FYI cell reception is spotty in the area

GREATTIME!!! 100 percent safe and so much fun. The staff were so nice and helpful. We had a problem with our car at the end of the day and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.

Moxie is amazing! This is my second time going with them, and I would go back in a heartbeat. Phil, the jack-of-all-trades campground manager/bus driver/general lookout, was always there to lend a helping hand and make us laugh. We stayed in the Moxie Barn, which had 3 bedrooms and slept up to 14 people. It has a small kitchenette. We were expecting a small stove and full size fridge, but we learned from Phil that they had just completed the barn and ran out of time, but are going to be adding those things. The Barn had a charcoal grill with it, and a firepit right outside the front door. It was also nice being a bit down the road from the main campsite. We coudl do our own thing. Charlie took us down the Kennebec for white water rafting, and then Brian, D-Pac, Artie and Dylan took us white water kyaking on the Dead river. We were a group of 8, and half hte group LOVED kyaking, and the other half hated it. oh well, you live and learn. The lunch on the Kennebec was delicious — steak, chicken, veggie burgers, beans and pasta salad — all cooked over an open fire. The lunch on the Dead was okay — we ate on the River and it was coldcuts, chips, cookies. Filling and fresh. Last time I went, we rafted the Dead and ate lunch back at base. Rafting the Dead was amazing. Overall, the guides are knowledgable and staff fun. We had a wonderful time! Just know that there is no cell recption up in the Forks Maine, and we were grateful for that! Barry’s General Store, about 2 miles away from Lake Moxie has random supplies, beer and liquor for those that run out. Cliff, the owner, is amazing and nice. He’s always around and just a really, really great guy. Thank you Moxie, for a wonderful trip! We will be back next year!

2nd year in a row rafting the Penobscot with Moxie. Truly had an absolute blast. Guides made it way more fun than just paddling a raft down the river. Arthur our guide made the day! Lots of fun river pit stops for swimming lunch etc. Highly recommend!
