Country Fare

Stopped in with my family while traveling on a Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, I was blinded by all the fudge when I walked in and we decided to sit down and eat. As I looked around, I noticed all the rotten and drip ridden ceiling tiles all over the dining area. The whole place just screams dirty. I was hoping for some nice plates of country food for everyone. I ordered the sirlion tips breakfast meal. The steak was incredibly overcooked and tough as leather. The potatoes were about the same. I tried my sons pancakes and they weren’t much better. My other son had mac-​n-​cheese which he took one bite of and pushed away. He ended up dining on my toast. The only thing remotely edible was the omelette my wife ordered. Needless to say, I won’t come back again and would caution others.

My boyfriend and I stopped at the TA Travel Center on our way back from Louisiana. I was surprised to find a display full of confections. I could see pans of fudge cooling on a counter, so I assume everything in made in house. I was quite pleased that we happened upon this little gem inside of a truck stop. I can’t speak for the food they serve, but I did purchase a white chocolate coconut haystack. My boyfriend got a bar of peanut butter fudge and a cashew caramel chocolate patty. The haystack was melt in my mouth delicious. I found it quite delectable, but I guess it’s hard to screw up something so simple. The cashew caramel chocolate was on par with something from a box of Russell Stover’s Chocolates. While I wasn’t incredibly impressed with the cashew caramel or my bite of the peanut butter fudge, I still consider this place a hidden gem. I would like to try a couple other things next time I pass through. They offer sugar free chocolate as well as «sucrose free» chocolate which I found very interesting. Salt water taffy is also available in large bags. Considering there probably isn’t much else like it in the area, I consider Country Fare to be noteworthy simply for it’s homemade confectionary offerings which are available at all hours.
