I was looking to learn Magic the Gathering along with my nephew(age 9) and so contacted a few local card shops in the area. The response I got from Desu-nation was the friendliest and so we just showed up to their shop the next day without an appointment. They were busy when we arrived, but Kevin gave us each a new deck of Magic cards on the house to open and look at while they wrapped things up in the store. Once he was free, he sat down with the two of us, walked us through the basics, and then patiently guided us through our first battle to the finish. Afterwards, I asked him about Friday Night Magic, and he actually recommended going to some of the bigger shops in the area. I appreciated the honesty. I also liked the fact that when I told him I wanted to buy a pre-built deck, he went over several options with me and the prices he offered me were better than what I’ve seen at the chain stores like Target. Great customer experience.

Came here once before. They were nice. Decided to come back a second time. Door says its open at 3pm. So I came here at 3. Im here writing my review outside the store at 4:30 still waiting for them to open. Ive seen 4 and still counting, groups of people that have came, waited 20 – 40 minutes then leave. Edit: i wont remove my bad experience there since it did happen, but I do think this is a great shop. ive come here a few more times and my experience has been great. store owner was accommodating and helped me with my purchase and taught me how to play force of will.

I found out about this place through the official Cardfight Vanguard website while trying to find a store that sold Cardfight products. I’m surprised this place only has 3 ½ stars! I’ve only been to this establishment twice and both were satisfying visits. They have an assortment of animé related products from cosplay gear to figurines. They also carry a wide selection of card sleeves and deck boxes, as well as singles and booster packs/boxes for Cardfight Vanguard, Weiss Schwarz, Yugioh, Force of Will and others. They do not carry Pokemon cards. First time I went was with my fiancé on a Friday night. It was pretty packed with players, but not too much as you were able to comfortably move about through the store. A man helped us with obtaining our booster boxes. He was very friendly and helpful. He was attentive and took the time to explain the game mechanics to us as we were fairly new to the game. The second time I went was on a Saturday to buy some card sleeves and deck boxes. Again, it was packed with people, but still easy to move around. I was helped by a young lady who was extremely helpful. I’m very indecisive, so it must have taken 15 – 20 minutes to look for a set of card sleeves and deck boxes for me and my fiancé. Despite that, she was there the entire time handing the products to me while making helpful recommendations. Overall, I feel this store is amazing. Lots of stuff in stock at reasonable prices and very friendly staff. Of course, it’s a little more expensive that Frank & Sons, but that place is only open twice a week. I will definitely come again here for my Cardfight Vanguard needs.

I heard from my friends that a local animé/card shop opened up near the area so I decided to go to their weekly tournaments. I’ve always been interested in card games so it was really cool that I finally got to participate in a tournament. Now I visit the card shop nearly every weekend for the VG tournament on Saturdays at 2pm to hang out and play card games. They sell merchandise like Animé Card Sleeves, Trading Card Booster Boxes, and Animé Figure/Accessories at a fair price. They also have an amazing staff and friendly players who are willing to help out with building your deck. I’ve made a bunch of new friends and am glad this place exists.

Great for card games, but definitely not for animé goods. If you are into card games like YugiOh, you are in luck. But if you are into animé and animé goods you are shit out of luck coming here. There isn’t much and the merchandise is on the pricey side. I think I have a better selection of goods located at my home. I think it would serve them better to just concentrate on the gaming side of the business.

I went to visit the shop about a month ago. I was really interesting in purchasing a card for a friend but I never got helped or nobody asked me if I needed help. Very disappointing. Prices compared to what I have seen at other places seemed a bit high.

I actually went there once and it was a pretty big store; much bigger then I though initially. It had a good amount of inventory. The prices were a bit higher then what I can get for. The main point of giving it one star was the fact that no one helped me. The customer support was little to none. I was actually identified by an employee, who knew I was new, but he didn’t really help. He just say«hi» and«your new here right?» but really got no legitimate help. I attended one of the tournament and waited for it to start; during that time the people there was all within their own groups and it was a very unwelcoming environment. The best thing to do is to go with a group because going alone, I felt very isolated. I heard some rumors about this card shops that I can confirm but I wanted to see for myself. I realized what most people told me and it was quite true. I went to a lot of local shops including Kira Kira and Hobby Shop Ichiban which were far more helpful and far more welcoming. The people there also priced a lot better. If your new to card games I would try other out other local stores first as Desu-nation made me feel very uncomfortable, isolated, and to be honest a bit uneasy.

Amazing card shop. Wouldn’t feel as comfortable being at another card shop because every visit to desu makes me want to go again. Highly respectable staff. Selling Cardfight! Vanguard, Weiss Schwartz, Sword Girls, Seigkrome, and other card games. Hard to find other stores that will make you feel the way that desu makes me feel.

When I walked into the shop for the first time, I was greeted by the owner. He was very nice to me and helpful too. The store has a lot of neat stuff like: key chains, folders, shitajiki, nendoroids & figures, some vinyl figures, etc. They also sell Cardfight! Vanguard too. Which is why I came to the shop in the first place, since there is no other place near me that sells it. The people there are cool and they take the time to sit down and teach how to to play Vanguard, or Weiss Schwarz. Oh yeah, another cool thing is that there is A LOT of card sleeves too.

The store is pretty spacious and staff is friendly. They have great variety of animé-imported goods at decent prices that you’d never really find them for outside of ordering online. You can also find some very good deals on their card game side for boosters, boxes, and singles. Very great place to hang out, play some card games, and get to know people there. The staff themselves are more than willing to help you with building your deck(for whatever card games they support at the store) as well as playing against you and giving you tips to learn to play better. There are a variety varying levels of skills amongst their players that you can against so that’s a nice nifty bonus for both casual and competitive players. They have card game tournaments every week for Weiss Schwarz and Cardfight! Vanguard and the prize support is pretty nice usually. Once in awhile they will work in colaboration with the Smash Bros. community to bring us a Smash Bros. Brawl tournament so for Smashers you might want to check that out. All-in-all a great and friendly environment to hangout at and all that so go check them out sometime! :)

Desu Nation… is there because there aren’t any store like it nearby… I mean, they’ve got a lot of floor space, yet very little merchandise. This is mirrored by their website, which is slow and has very little content. And of these content, you get Engrish gems like: «…We want this to by as hype as possible so check back for some surprises». Assuming they are trying to say ‘be as hip as possible”, you really gotta wonder if the owner(s) actually cared. At least the staff are pretty friendly. At first I thought its because the place is new, but the guy working over the counter told me they’ve been around for a year now. The store is about 2000 sq ft, more than 2⁄3 of it is basically empty — 6 tables for card games took up all the center space. The rear 1⁄5 of the store is set up for video games — 1TV, a few consoles, and a lot of joysticks strewn about. The remaining space is for retail merchandises. A few scrolls, several counter full collectible card games, and a few t-shirts. That’s about it. Overall, not enough merchandise to warrant a second visit. Edit: I was contacted by someone who I assume is the owner, and he explained a few things to me. 1. Desu-Nation is 2000 sq ft instead of 500 sq ft, and is basically a collectible card game shop. Its not an animé merchandise /hobby shop. 2. The quote I used is indeed from his website, but he didn’t write it himself. And that makes it better. 3. I shouldn’t be rating their store so low because I didn’t ‘understand’ their store. He was right that I didn’t ‘get’ what their store’s focus was, however, aside from that 2000 sq ft thing(which is now corrected) everything else I said about the shop is still true. Its a big shop with a lot of empty space dedicated to collectible card games. As a dedicated collectible card game store, I guess this place is A-OK. So I’ve adjusted my rating accordingly by awarding it 1 more star.

I love this place! Not only is it a store, but it’s an awesome hang out place where friends just gather around and have fun. There’s gaming systems everywhere and plenty of tables for card games. Great deals too! ^_^

Went to their opening back in September. They were having a Vocaloid-themed party with cosplayers and a raffle. From what I saw of the store, it was spacious, though sparse — very few shelves and tables, and in turn not much in terms of product out on the floor. To their credit since it WAS their grand opening and they were trying to have a party, I can’t blame them for not having much out. Based on what was put out, though, prices weren’t outrageous. What I like about Desu-Nation are the intangible things. They’re cultivating and fostering a community that didn’t really have a homebase outside of the Internet and the occasional convention. They hold card tournaments and other events. I’ll have to drop by again some time. ****UPDATE: Went by today, 2÷10÷12, and noticed they have more product than before, with actual aisles and shelving, so I upgraded my rating by a star. They’re running a sale — anything with a heart Post-It note is 20% off. The majority of the space, however, is game tables with a TV set up with arcade controllers. They also appear to be doing movie nights. Looks like they’re more specializing in gaming cards(Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc) than animé. Aside from cards, there’s more towels, wallscrolls, binders, a few cabinets with figures and capsule toys, and shirts. If you’re a Vocaloid or Hatsune Miku fan, you’re in luck because that’s a pretty big chunk of their product.
