Ray just cut my boyfriends hair and it looks amazing. He is extremely meticulous and really listens to what the customer wants. In addition, the shop atmosphere is very cool and laid back. Thank you for the great experience!

After reading some reviews on the other Unilocal page(Altered Ego Salon, same family and all), Ray’s name came up a few times. His reviews were good. I had someone I regularly went to every two weeks back in the West Valley but since I live in the east now, it didn’t make too much sense to drive all the way back there just for a haircut. So came the part I’ve been dreading: finding someone new I can trust with my hair. Somehow, I’ve found someone who did an even BETTER job than what I was used to. Definitely recommend Ray and the barber shop itself is great. There’s a certain feel in the environment that’s just right. I can’t explain it, just book an appointment yourself to see what I mean.

when classic is new and fresh, from comfortable leather couches to old school new school look. What about the professionalism, top notch. Here there is no ego, but only approchable and caring staff. There craft sings thru there hands. Truly Santana Scissor Sharpening, had an enjoyable time with the staff. Some of those which I met, Ray, Adriana, Matthew, Timiko, Shivi(I really hoped I spelled that right, if not please forgive me)

Took me forever to realize that the owners of Altered Ego Salon had decided to split off a section of their salon space for the new(ish) Male Ego Barbershop/Café, established«just for men». Once I learned this, however, I had to give it a shot. I’ve been on the lookout for a stylist or a barber who specializes in men’s cuts. Specifically vintage style cuts. I wanted something straight out of Mad Men or Boardwalk Empire, but needed it done *right*, you know what I mean? I’ve been paying $ 70+ per cut at Dolce Salon for months now with only mediocre results, so it was definitely time to try something new. I called in on a Saturday and was able to schedule an appointment for the following day(Sunday). Walked through the front door to be met casually by Ray, my barber for this appointment. Ray had a big beard and plenty of tattoos — just what I was hoping to see, to be honest. He was very personable without being intrusive and conversation with him was very easy. It soon became particularly evident that, not only did Ray know what he was doing, he took his work seriously. Based on my experience: you come across employees often, you come across artisans only once in a blue moon. Ray is an artisan. Ray told me how he just got back from a trip to the Netherlands where he took instruction under some of the world’s most renowned barbers. He spoke repeatedly of his commitment to continued education and to being the best at what he does. All the while, he’s clipping and scissoring and shaving until voilà! The cut is complete, and I love it. Ray helped me determine which hair product would be best for the style we decided on and even took the time to train me on how to duplicate the look for myself. Ray also informed me that first timers get 20% off their purchase of any product, so that was a pleasant surprise, too. All in all, my experience here was solid. I *will* be back. I can’t express to you, reader, how many years I have been searching for my version of a Ray. I’d highly recommend him, and the Male Ego experience, to anyone who sincerely cares about their image/style. If you haven’t already been, make a point of stopping by and scheduling an appointment. Oh, and did I mention that there’s a great little coffee shop in the back, too(Solo Café)? This place can’t be beat. A diamond in the rough for sure.

So first let me say as a starving college student I’m not usually in the market to spend a lot of cash for anything. So walking away $ 35 more poor than I was walking in kinda sucked. Now onto the good! Ray is a master of his craft and easy to talk to. He’s probably one of the few in my experience to properly do a line up using a straight razor. But come in with time to kill because you’ll be in the chair for a bit. Not a bad thing in my opinion, however. Quality works takes time after all. Set an appointment and give it a shot. You’ll get what you pay for without a doubt. If you’re on a budget and looking to conserve, I’d perhaps recommend somewhere else.
