1st Amendment Tattoo & Body Piercing

Walked in a little hesitant since my friends last experience here wasn’t the best. We decided to give it another try since we’re just getting piercings… Brian greeted us when we walked in. He immediately asked for ID and proceeded to give us paperwork to fill out… He was super cool, explained the process and maintenance. And really turned our view of this shop around…

This place freaking sucks.

Went in a couple months ago for a septum piercing. The guy stopped tattooing someone to help my friend and I. It was very uncomfortable and he pierced hers through the cartilage part which isn’t what she really had expected or wanted originally but felt intimidated I guess. When it was my turn I told him I didn’t think I wanted to do it anymore– all the ones I had seen and jewelry she already bought was for a much lower piercing. He said «well, that’s the septum» and then didn’t offer to pierce mine lower or talk really at all– just asked if I was doing it or not. I said no thanks! We left immediately and hers hurt so badly in the healing process she didn’t want anyone to even breathe near her nose.
After looking around a bit and messaging people I found Erica from Calderas and she told me online to ask as many questions as I wanted. When we went in for the appointment she showed me where she normally pierces it and gave me other options as well. It was all very sterile and comfortable and aftercare was easy. Just barely tender on the end of my nose but I could kiss my husband, move it around and try to tuck it in within the same day it was done.
My friend didn’t write a review but I told her if I had read a bad one about her experience at 1rst amendment then I never would have suggested it– and if we did read it and still went then at least we knew it was a risk we were taking.

Place is straight up stanky. Smells like some gefilte fish for days.

First off, while browsing shops I’d visited this place a couple times only to find that they are overpriced and the staff always look at you like you are so below them. The vibe is very similar to that of going into a vape shop where everyone seems to think they are the s**t and that you are dirt. Secondly, my fiancée whom has no tattoos, called in this past Friday the 13^th to get something small for her first tattoo, only to be «greeted» by the owner, Mike. Mike was rude, short and of course arrogant about every question she asked. How can you successfully run a shop when, even the owner, is too arrogant for customer service? Not good business.

I’m writing a review for both myself and my girfriend.
First off, Tyson was my artist and I am very happy with my experience with him. It was my first tattoo, and he went slow and was patient with me. He constantly made sure I was doing okay and kept great conversation going the whole time. I would definitely go to him again and recommend him to a friend/​family member.
My girfriend on the other hand, had an experience quite opposite. It was also her first tattoo and although she went in comfortable and not nervous in anyway, she left rather unhappy. I’m pretty sure her artists’ name was Drew. He was quiet and unapproachable from beginning to end and her tattoo, needless to say, does not look the best. She wanted to get a simple domino, no shading, just line work. The lines are horrible and the dots inside the domino are missing lots of ink. It was finished in a matter of only 5 minutes and felt very rushed. She is really disappointed.

First off I have to say is Thanks Angela for referring me to Burt!!! Burt you are Amazing… My new best friend Ha! I came in for a cover up & unsure what I really wanted. Burt was amazing & helped me figure it out in minutes! I’m all for Unilocal reviews and references, what I’ve read is nothing at all what I had experienced, In fact total opposite from the bad reviews I’ve read. The shop is very clean, professional & personable people working here! I look forward to getting more work done!

I’ve gotten 2 tattoos by Tyson and have been happy with his work. I see a lot of negative reviews, but in addition to my 2 tattoos, my wife has gotten 3 here, 1 by Tyson and 2 by Drew, my daughter got a tattoo by Tyson and my other daughter got a nose piercing. We’ve all been happy with the work and I think Tyson is an incredible artist.

Worst customer service ever! I don’t think they realize how many competitors are out there and can easily take this business, they don’t honor promotions and are rude and snarky! DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! you’re better off going to Skull Haus tattoo in Murrieta I love their piercer Moo, along with the rest of the staff

Tyson fucked up my shoulder tattoo. He is inexperienced, rather dumb, and sucks at tattooing. Get your shit together or stop creating shit that lasts forever. Dickbutt. HOWEVER. Drew is a pretty good artist and does good work. But, still.

So I saw a special on Facebook for $ 20 piercings that should have been a red flag! I got excited and went and had the Monroe done. The guy who pierced me I believe was billy? Might be wrong on name nice guy said I wouldn’t have any issues that it hardly gets infected. Well I noticed the skin growing over the back and was having to keep ripping my skin so it didn’t cover the back and have to have it surgically removed. I went back in with concerns after calling and they said to come in and get a longer bar so I did that he then said oh it looks fine to me you don’t need another bar i said are you sure? He said totally I said ok cool. Another week goes by I start forming a Lump now so I go back in and Tyson was super nice and said I absolutely had a bar way to short that it was for after I healed so he changed it out. Next day it’s so swollen and red and oozing and it falls out! Holy crap I am pissed now I knew I was right and I went in responsibly as I was told now I have a fat ugly red puffy infected lip right before the holidays and a Hole in my face ! I gave a $ 10 tip as well now I know if it’s too good to be true it usually is ! Thanks for the hassle!

I got my tattoo done here, and it was alright. They weren’t personable at all, but whatever. However, I visited there today again while my friend got his tattoo, and I will never ever step another foot in that door. They lost 2 potential loyal customer, and I will never recommend this place to my friends. Their customer service sucks. They just stare at you when you walk in, and also rip you off horrible horrible horrible. Unprofessional.

I went there to get my belly button pierced. The guy was very nice. I use a cane to walk, and there was no questions asked, I was not turned away! Great customer service and the shop was very clean. It’s only cash but they have an atm. I would recommend this place.

I walked in to this shop with my best friend for their Friday the 13^th special. they basically give you a cheap tattoo on any Friday the 13^th (I believe it’s 20 bucks for a small one, but you HAVE to choose out of the tattoo stencils the provide. you have maybe 100 options) I think it’s a pretty rad special, but because it’s so cheap and all the tats are kind of meaningless, the tattoo artists don’t give a shit about them. They are so overcrowded that all the artists were saying «everyone needs to get the fuck out» and «fuck this I don’t want to tattoo this shit anymore.» I personally don’t like getting tattood at a shop where their is no passion in their work.
Also, one of the artists was drinking ON THE JOB and then on my way to the bathroom he asked me if I wanted a sip out of his bottle. Umm no? I don’t know you and you should be working right now? It was a tad frustrating.
I personally have never gotten a tattoo here because of this experience. I’m just surprised how unprofessional they are. Body Graphics and Soul Expression are much much better in terms of vibe and attitude.

My 19yr old daughter went in for a simple tattoo. Just a quote of «This too shall pass». Looks like a backyard tattoo. It was done by Burt. I will stop by tomorrow to speak to someone. She said she even wrote it down for him. He did it free-​hand and looks like

I have gotten a couple tattoos and several piercings from them. Everyone seems friendly and helpful. Bert is very talented, if you get a chance stop by and check out his work. If you follow them on Facebook you can find out about specials that they have.

I have been a patron at several tattoo shops over the years — and have been in the position of «shop help» a time or two… that said, I prefer this shop to others I have been to. The tattoo artists, as well as the body piercers, maintain a professional attitude and a good rapport with clients and prospective clients. The studio is always very clean, and each artist had their own work space. These artists have awesome portfolios, and are sensitive to customer needs/​wishes. I am totally satisfied with my work received at this shop — I will DEFINITELY be returning soon!

On 2÷13÷09 they were offering «Valentine inspired» flash work for free (+ tip). I chose a sparrow with a heart, two flowers, and a banner. I was able to choose the word that would go on the banner and I got a tribute to my dad, so it says «Daddy» on the ribbon. Bring on the «Who’s your Daddy?» jokes.
We ended up waiting about an hour because Eli was inking up another guy so I went next door to the shady Mexican food place to grab a bite and a beer. (Shhh!)
Went back, picked the image and showed him the placing. Inside of my right arm, technically my first «big» piece and my first «visible» piece. The owner, Reverend Mike, asked if it was my first tattoo, made small talk then went about his business. I laid out on a table with my arm hooked under my head and we did the outline. This took about an hour. Smoke break. Then we did some shading. Another hour. Finally we went back to discuss colors and I told him I liked turquoise and so he managed to incorporate it into the art. Another hour and a half.
All in all it took a little longer than I would have expected for something of this size but I love it and I couldn’t beat the price.
